A workaround for ‪@TASCAMUSA‬ Model 12 Digital Mixer headphone issue.
I hope TASCAM will update the firmware to resolve the issue with a simple solution provided in this video.

TASCAM Just updated the MODEL 12 Firmware to Ver 1.3 that has the new feature I was asking for, the headphone mix. Now you can select the headphone PRE or POST Main Fader. And a few other options too. kzbin.info/www/bejne/noXSemqEhb6sd6M

If you have a monitor station, you can control your monitors with that....correct?...and overall might be a good purchase if you don't have one....for extra speakers, changing headphone volumes in comparison to monitors, etc

Thanks for the suggestion. Yes, that will work, but I'm trying to avoid extra unnecessary costs. Currently and for foreseeable future, I will only have one set of speakers for accurate monitoring reasons. One can only have one speaker setup at the correct listening position at any one time. My second set of PreSonus Eris 3.5BT are for video editing and multimedia purpose.

Dear Vatcha love your channel. I have some questions Sir. I watched this video and am a little confused. Note this. The Model 12 is an Analogue front-end for DAWs, offering a 12-in/10-out USB 2.0 interface that moves 24-bit/48kHz audio between the mixer and your recording program while delivering tactile control over faders, pans, mutes and transport controls for most DAWs.16 Sept 2020. According to Tascam. So you will have an Analogue front end. The control knobs will not be rotary encoders then. Just like analogue Behringer mixers. So the digital side will be the recording part I presume. I have just sold my Behringer x-air 18 Digital unit as It did far to much for what I needed. Had it 7 months and sold it for what I paid for it new. Lost nothing. I have gone back to the Behringer QX1222 USB. Ps as I do not have a channel thought you might like to share a tip I have. When using reaper on Asio drivers you can not record and play back at the same time. If you try to play a youtube video and record a Microphone say. KZbin just hangs and will not play. After many hours trying to find a solution on youtube. I tried this. When My Analogue mixer was on. I plugged in to the computer a £3.00 usb sound card. I altered no settings at all, and like magic no more play record problems. Reason I am telling you is you may have come across this same problem on some of your equipment in the past. So as you have a very good channel thought you can help your fans if they have the same problem. I have no idea how or why it works it just does. I was even thinking of buying a different mixer. Thanks for watching. As to TASCAM Model 12 and how it works, this may be explained in my next quick review. The mixer is not analog other than the input gain section. All Comp/EQ are digital all the way to USB to PC. As to your KZbin video/audio playback, have you tried installing ASIO4ALL driver? This could resolve the issue, as Windows Audio doesn't like sharing devices. By plugging the cheap USB soundcard, you are redirecting the Windows Audio to it and allowing the browser audio to be shared. You can also enable Device Sharing in REAPER so REAPER will share the QX1222USB device with rest of Windows' apps in the background.

Two year later, Tascam has yet to provide a solution to the headphone problem. I can use out 1 & 2 but the volume is super low and does not have any dynamics to it no matter what I do. Pathetic. However, I do realize I could be the problem as well as I have owned the Model 12 for two years and never got it to function properly even with the updates and a new PC. I hate the purchase and wish I'd stuck with Focusrite which never failed and was super easy to integrate in Studio One 6. Model 12 seemed to be a wonderful purchase at first but has been a nightmare even after watching a dozen different videos and the recent upgrade to 1.41. It just will not work in Windows 11, I suppose? It keeps telling me to upgrade to Windows 10, or that Windows 10 cannot be found. Any help by my fellow musicians will be greatly appreciated.

BTW, I can listen to my Studio One track when I plug my headphones into my PC, but the volume cannot be adjusted by normal means. The volume slider or controls don't work.

I have the Model 24. What if I want to mix using headphones? Without the faders working I cannot mix. But pfl must be depressed in order to hear anything on my headphones. Thanks.

What do you mean by "Without the faders working "? Do you have the Control Room level up, Headphone levels up? I'm pretty sure the issue that was on the Model 12 prior to the Firmware update is relevant to Model 24, as the audio routing is different, since the Model 24 has separate Control Room audio bus.

What made you decide on this unit as opposed to the Soundcraft MTK 12? Maybe the fact that this has SD recording? Maybe because this has a compressor on the channel strip? Maybe because it has some DAW control ability? I went with the the MTK 22 because it was all analogue, but I gave up a lot features of the Tascam 12

Thanks for the comment. I wanted something smaller than my current Behringer UFX1604. For about the same price as the SounsCraft MTK22, I got the SD MTR, CH1&2 hardware inserts, SUB out, and somewhat a DAW Surface controller (not sure I'll use it as I have dedicated 8 fader SC) and few other extra features of the digital world. I know it's all digital and if I need analog vibe, I have my UFX1604. Mainly it's for the small and neat size and flexibility of the audio routing, except the headphone issue LOL! Hope this will be resolved in the near future by TASCAM.

I guess it depends on the impedance of your headphone. Some high impedance headphones require more power to drive them.

You can use the Solo button in PFL. Listen on headphones that channel without it going to Main. One point, to be able to cue one song while playing another, your music player or DJ player needs to have 2 Stereo out, otherwise you can't. If so, then send the main DJ Stereo to 9/10 and the H/P cue to 7/8. Hope this helps.

Thanks for watching. Yes, that might work, but I have two issues with your suggestion with me and I'm sure with many others. 1. Unless you are using small easy access speakers, I have no access to the back of my two studio monitors to turn them on.off. 2. I'm not a fan of turning equipment on and off every few minutes, especially amps and speakers.

Dig your channel. You know your s**t... Question on M12 that I can't find in manual & forget trying to get teac support to answer phone or get back to me, not happening. Q: How do I edit the recording time on a song without deleting entire, need to save, song? A few times when live recording I forgot to shut record off so I end up with 30 min recording added on to a named 5 min saved song. So, obviously when I send the wav file or exporting wavs I just want the song length. Do me a solid & I'll push your channel on my FB page (I'm going to either way)... need an answer asap... #starvingartistusa

Sorry to bear the sad news, but there are no even simple editing functions in the MTR recording. I would expect even a simple TRIM option for at least the whole song, (every track recorded) with start and end markers, but no. MARK option is already available, it would seem simple enough to add TRIM between MARK 01 and MARK 04. Done. But, no. Someone added VAMP feature in ver 1.20, which I can't see anyone requesting this feature or many using (I did a TASCAM Model 12 users' poll), yet no basic editing option. I agree, it's crazy.
