This is the Part 1 introduction video of a series of videos demonstrating how to setup and record a song using PreSonus Studio One V3 Prime, the free DAW.
In my setup, I have my KORG PA3X Musical Keyboard connected to Behringer Xenyx Q502USB mixer, using my old DELL Vostro 3500 Laptop (i5 Core, 8Gb RAM, Windows 7 64Bit).

Thank you for Telling us all about Studio one Prime . so far its working on my old cpu amd 3800 , which I do not think meets the base requirements. But ill try follow along. I'll Have to get that q502usb mixer as well. I have managed to record a audio drum track and a audio guitar track (working on latency issue with cheap audio interface I am using, so not ready for prime time) . This software is amazing, cant wait for the rest of your videos , keep up the Great work.

+Ar Tonal Thanks for the comments Ar. CPU power will be your most issue with old PCs. Audio recording is heavy CPU use process. Before anything, I would recommend a PC with reasonable CPU to get you started, otherwise, it will frustrate you with PC issues. Hope this helps. Let us know how you go.

Hello ! Thank you for these videos very well explained. English is not my mother language but with your slow flow speech and a bit of subtitles, i'm ok. I just want to start with a DAW to record multi instruments (not in the same time like a live perfomance, but one after one) i think Studio one 5 free is ok to do this ? To be short and for what i got wih explanations here and there the method is : 1- Having a pc and presonus sutdio one 5 prime installed 2- Having an external soundcard (i think i'm going to buy a behringer one, not very expensive) 2b - If no external sound, first i will test recording a guitar rythm, a mini solo, a voice mith my phone, import it (is m4a codec eaten by the soft ?) and mix it in the daw, to be at ease and familiar with all the buttons everywhere ! 3- Record and guide track to be able to follow with all instrus that will come later 4- Record guitar rythm, bass, drums, keyboards, solo, vocals. 5- Mix and arrange these tracks 6- Combine (mastering ?) in one output file. Is the method ok for you ? I've tried to be familiar with Cakewalk but my god how difficult it is... It seems to me that studio one 5 is more reachable. Hoping you will answer my questionS :) Thanks again for all this help you provide to beginners. 🙏 Musical friendships.

+michael rosenberg You may need to setup aggregated audio in your mac's AUDIO MIDI SETUP. Here is video on it. kzbin.info/www/bejne/fHOtm3-mj99gi8k

How does the connection go to the keyboard? is it from MIDI out of the keyboard to the USB in the computer? are you really playing the keyboard and recording the sound of the keyboard in studio one? Is that possible ? or you are playing in Studio one using midi controller and get the sound from keyboard(as a module) .? little confusing. Would you please explain

There are two ways to do it, and it depends on your keyboard arranger capability. 1 - Record the arrangement on the keyboard as MIDI and then copy that into Studio One as a MIDI import. 2 - While playing, setup Studio One to record all 16 MIDI channels onto 16 different MIDI tracks. Once you have the MIDI notes in Studio One, you can then modify, add and remove notes, specially drums and other parts to make the song more dynamic and not looping same over and over again. Then play the MIDI in Studio One, while your keyboard acts as a Sound Module to play the audio, while you record Audio Tracks in Studio One, possibly each MIDI track/instrument at a time, to get multi-track audio arrangement in Studio One. Of coarse, you can also add VST instruments as well in Studio One. It's a long process, but your final song will sound so much better and not much like a looping keyboard arranger. It will be well worth your time.

+Nouman Nasir It is the MIDI connection to my KORG keyboard. It allows MIDI communication to and from my keyboard and laptop.

What extension plug-ins can we use with the prime version?
@RecordingStudio9
@RecordingStudio9 8 жыл бұрын
+Hasham Qazi As I mention in my video, Studio One Prime does not support any external plug-ins. You need to upgrade to Artist + VST add-on option or Pro to use any VST plug-ins.

Thanks, godo videos. Do you think thsi presonus free version is better than audacity?
@RecordingStudio9
@RecordingStudio9 8 жыл бұрын
+Daniel Patino Great question. Yes, in so many ways, even with its limitations. Studio One is a DAW for recording a multitrack song. Studio One has full MIDI where Audacity has no support for MIDI. And so on...

I understand some of my older videos had longer intro, but I hoped to set the goal and explain why and when before how. Now I get asked the stupid questions in the comments asking why their lversion doesn't work, because they don't understand the basics. So, I can't win either way 🤪
