This video was such a life saver! Thank you for explaining the concept in such an easy to understand way, I was absolutely struggling before I came here!

That's really nice video, encapsulates the dependencies and independencies in the matrices. So it's easy to see we can put values in the pivot colums and get full matrices back.

Richard Fredlund columns.... English is quirky and so is “auto-(in)correct”!

Typo: Change 9 to 10 and 33 to 36 (otherwise the columns are linearly dependent)

Thank you very much for this. I was struggling with a similar problem for hours. I'm still trying to grasp it so I have a question: Would I be correct if I said that the matrix can be recovered unambiguously because: - The column vectors of A corresponding the pivot columns of A' form the basis of a column space of A - Thus, the other column vectors can be written as the linear combination of the basis vectors in EXACTLY one way.

Your initial three vectors are not linearly independent so they cannot be the pivot columns of an RREF matrix

Oh yeah! Good point, hahaha, but you get the idea

Ah, you snuck in a quick phrase at the beginning... “you actually can..... if you have some partial information “.... the last phrase said really hastily(!)...... I’d say that only a “family” of matrices can be supposed, without additional conditions.......can we classify matrices by row-echelon characteristics? (Naive question--I ought to know better by now! ;) )
