Hi, Firstly, I’m stepping back from KZbin to focus on my mental health from today. My social anxiety, in particular blushing, is the worst it’s ever been. I must do everything I can to help myself now. But I want you to know you’re not alone. No-one understands the curse of blushing unless you’ve endured it. I constantly want to tell people “IT’S NOTHING PERSONAL! IT’S NOT YOU, IT’S ME!!” Instead, I’m constantly shrinking/sinking into myself deeper and deeper. Enough is enough. I hope to report back with a positive update in the future, because as always, I want to show you “It Gets Brighter”. Sending you strength. Be kind to yourself. Remember, you’re just human x x

I hope you read this at some point Jonny.. It wasn't fair what your friend said when he gave his opinion on talking to children, knowing that you're a sensitive guy and would take his opinion to heart. I know because I'm the same, and I would latch onto others negative opinions. I wish I had been there in his place to tell you how sweet and open hearted you are -and that's why you should continue to talk to children and talk to anyone for that matter - because they will be the ones to benefit from your lovely nature. One little piece of advice/experience with the blushing thing I could give is to do whatever you can that gives you happiness. Happiness leads to confidence. When you believe in yourself you care less about what others think. This also comes with age. I truly believe these things will come to you. You are lovely and it radiates from you, I wish I could give you a hug and make you know that you don't have to care even if you do blush. Never run away from it if you feel it coming, go with it, even if you feel the fear and burn in your face (I understand, I've been there). Breathe, let it pass. Another thing is, if it helps, let the person you're speaking to know that you have it (hyperhydrosis). If people understand that stuttering or other similar issues are things to be aware and understanding of, then so is blushing. Bless you and please look after yourself, you're loved.

I've suffered from extreme blushing for a long time and it is absolutely horrible. No one understands how bad it makes you feel and when people draw attention to it, it makes you blush more and feel even worse :( I have the same thing in that I blush in front of certain people and once it starts, I dread every time I see that person because I worry about blushing in front of them. I've contemplated ending my life before because my blushing gets so bad that I can't even leave the house sometimes but it's comforting in a way to know that I'm not the only person who suffers from it.

They’re literally like- it’s just blushing, relax! I also relate to the same feeling of people thinking you are some way because you are going red.. money went missing at a job of mine and they interrogated people and even tho I would never steal i blushed during the interrogation and it makes you just feel and look so guilty! Stay strong love! Wish there were small communities in every town/country who suffer with this would make socialising so much easier!

you're so courageous for working regardless of your issue. Stay strong! Women have an advantage over men where you can wear makeup to mitigate its effects. I used to tan so much so that my skin would turn super red and peel off, in order to go to social gatherings and trick my brain that im already red so, ppl would think it's normal since it's just the sun. What a mega idiotic mental disease. No one will understand us unfortunately...oh yeah, you have another advantage, since you're a woman, when i was in HS and saw women blush, i thought it was cute and part of their feminine beauty to be shy and reserved. I mean it's a silver lining if you think about it hard enough :)

Let me tell you something... Y´all. I was dealing with extreme blushing for 4 years, so I can really relate to this video. I had been looking for sooo many solutions how to get rid of it. I was so upset that i could not say my opinion without turning red, i was unable to say anything. It effected me in everything. I hated my life at that time. I really did. But I realized one thing. That the more i thought about the fact i was blushing, the more my face turned red. So i stopped doing it. Honestly, it is easier than you think. From then, every time when someone asked me something or i had to say something and felt that sense of blushing on my face, i just ignored it. Sure, im blushing.. and? For sure, there were times when someone had to point it out. But don´t be sad about it. They don´t even know what you have to deal with every single day. One thing you have to do is to make fun of it. Why not? Don´t be serious and pretend it is not happening. Trust me, these are the only ways what will help you to deal with your blushing. It may sound weird, but when you start to do that, you realize yourself not doing it anymore. It may take some time, it is a slow process of building up on your self-confidence, but it DOES work. JUST STOP THINING ABOUT IT. that is the key point. love yourself.

Kika I agree with you on not to care and make fun of it. When ppl would point it out I would say that I packed it with the blush cuz the foundation made me look too plain and they laughed and that made me feel comfortable. Also I would say dumb things like, “its cuz I love tomatoes and ketchup so it reflects through my skin”. Honestly this is a fear we learned. We all blush as kids and don’t care but not until you see someone’s negative reaction, either they make fun of you or just pointing it out, makes you think that they are judging you and disapproving you. That’s why we accrued this fear, but just like any fear can be overcomed with a change on your point of view on this it can also be overcomed. I actually am thankful I had this issue cuz it stopped me from doing things that probably would of taken me in a wrong direction. So not everything about it had to be bad. Guys CBT is what will help change your view on it and accept it, and you’ll learn it was the best thing to do.

Blushing is my mind is related to caring what other people think you. This part of the brain develops when we are in our mid teenage years, so it's part our development. I know what you mean and it can happen around people that you consider to be superior in one way or another and/or you want to impress and thus you care what they think of you. It can also happen around your peers assuming something has triggered you to be uncomfortable. The worst part is that it can be spontaneous as we meet new people all the time. When the blush comes, don't break eye contact or start fidgeting , just own it and keep conversing. In other words remain in control. The other person will see that you have gone red but if you maintain eye contact and strong body language, these will be more dominating. If you focus on the conversation, the redness will disappear as quick as it first appeared. Also you will feel much better afterwards and you will approach the next interaction with much more confidence. I will also suggest traveling if you can to experience other cultures. There are cultures that are less politically correct than others. In Southern Europe, people there exert a sense of freedom because they speak their mind as they do not care what others think. Mind you those around them do the same. It's the way they have been brought up. Everything is out in the open, no secrets. Everyone is so confident and in turn, since you are around them, you become the same. Our potential to adapt is quite incredible as we tend to behave according to our environment. Finally don't think about your blushing when you are alone. In fact do not overthink when you are alone period, especially if this is something that is getting you down. This is how we can create our own fears. Always remember to occupy the mind and set daily goals. Thanks for sharing

I blush for anything, whether it’s a compliment or a negative comment or just by being and suddenly I feel the heat crawl through and out onto the surface of my skin. Then I have “good days” when nothing seems to phase me. Its like I have to be this emotionless person in order to not blush. I think the core of the problem is the obsessive thoughts of what people think of us. The need of being accepted by society and the fear of rejection . I learned in my bio psychology class that blushing comes from the Amygdala, “fight or flight” portion of the brain. When we feel threatened that portion fires. Those who suffer from any type of anxiety disorder, that part is hypersensitive due to a burnt out hypothalamus (control the release of stress hormones). Anyways, I don’t know about everyone else but if you’re like me, I realized that I sometimes act in a way that suppresses the real me in a way that it will be more liked or pleasant for society. For instance today In a lab class I had become impatient with one of my group members when he was trying to be funny but all he was doing was delaying us from finishing the activity. I was becoming agitated. He then asks me what grade I got on my previous lab reports and I quickly became even more agitated. So I answered and continued to ask more questions. Next thing you know I was becoming even more and more agitated thats when my face began to turn red. I don’t say anything but I see in his and my other group members face that they are looking at me turn redder and redder. I go from suppression, agitation, to humiliation. Just like you I’m yet to learn how to fix the problem but from making observations about my past experiences I can learn more and more about myself and why I react the way I do. However, it is important to NOT ridicule yourself for having these episodes. Doing that WILL NOT help you. I think start by being kind to yourself. Do it purposefully every day! Until you learn to love and accept yourself. Now to think of it, I think that might be the core problem; Not truly loving or accepting yourself. To anyone that reads this, You are not alone, I am not alone, We are not alone.

I have heard that you just have to not care that you blush and try and blush more and point it out. It hurts still to do this but I do the best i can. People can be quite mean about it and tease about it.

I am glad that i am not alone. My anxiety came probably when i was 10 after changing a school (horrible classmates), but i should have been happy, at least i was not blushing. most important is what you think of yourself, you know you are a good person so put this thought higher than what other people could possibly think of you, you dont know what other people think of you anyway!!! I believe that the fear of blushing is a fear of being vulnerable, but being vulnerable is being honest and authentic and being authentically you is the greatest gift you can give the world.

Came across this video by accident. However this resonates with me as I am a facial blusher. It doesn't help that when I exercise or am in hot weather my face is super hot. But somehow, as of late, I have stopped blushing as much and I am not sure why. I still get the neck flush from time to time but I tell myself its ok! There are others out there just like us. :)

I have it too and I saw that basically you have to change your habits that are your response to blushing (hiding, not talking, covering your face, looking away) and for me it’s not talking so I started by saying hello awkwardly explaining my name and it was less embarrassing and I know if I were to blush I would have someone I could explain myself to about having Erythrophobia (fear of blushing) and in a single day my blushing has gone way down. Now the worse the trauma that caused those defensive habits that more you’ll have to change your habits. Another things is you could say you got sunburned

Sorry, just come across this video. I 100% understand what you are going through. I'm 15 years old, and before a few years ago, I never blushed, ever. I was very confident and not very self conscious, no matter how much people made fun of me for whatever reason. But just as you said, it's something you just can't hide. It's not like things like anxiety which are physical things, blushing is something that everyone can see, especially for someone like me who has very pale skin. And I understand exactly what you mean about it happening around some people. There some old friends I had, especially girls, who currently I can't speak to whatsoever without blushing. The one thing you always have to remember is that it will eventually end, and it's something that all of us who suffer with blushing have to remember

Mate. first of all youre half way there having the courage to make this video. Instead of getting caught up in the rabbit hole of thoughts and going through that whirl wind, you just have to put it out there...the more you fight it the stronger it will be. The only way to beat it is stop fighting it. Tell people what it is, Erythrophobia, you're struggling with it. You hate it. It ruins lives and ends lives. People will take it as they will depending on the kind of oerson they are. But.....i can tell you.....almost 100%, give it time, you will realize one day that you havent thought of blushing in ages!!!!!!! Whats the cause of it? I dont know but suspect youre a very sensitive lovely human and there is a great value there. I see the pain in you and wish you the best. Yes i have gone through this. Yes it has ....changed my life. But im still here. It will happen every once in a while but i barely ever even think about it now. Thinking back to horrible it was....yeah.....its torture.

Chronic blushing seems like such a stupid thing unless you're living it. It's so incredibly debilitating and seemingly hopeless. There's nothing like trying to converse with someone (or even just do daily tasks in public) and seeing them shut down and become judgmental when you start to turn red and rashy from your chest to your forehead.

Makes me also not feel so alone, its very hard getting over this.. In public situations i'm really awkward and blush a lot especially if i feel like what i'm saying is stupid so i think it's quite a common thing to feel. However if i've been with my partner or a friend when it's happened and i've asked them about it they rarely even notice it and it's only cause we're thinking about it we think it's a million times worse. I know nothing will magically change it but just know that your not alone, you don't look silly and the person your talking to probably hasn't even took much notice or thought about it so take a deep breath and think about something positive. As for the children issue it's a horrible thing and nower days quite complicated cause like you said the media fuels things. However you are not, you haven't done anything wrong or inappropriate so don't worry. Many people will smile at a baby or a child because it's a nice thing to do, far better than looking shitty at them and freaking them out. As a mother if i saw a man smile at my child i would not assume the worst and i think a lot of people see it that way too. As always much love x

Don’t be afraid, I’ve had severe blushing for about 12 years now. It started with crippling social anxiety and turned into blushing, you can hide anxiety and depression but you can’t hide turning red. It’s not even a little red it’s starts with the thought of being red and than the next thing you know your entire face is on fire. It destroyed my life only because I let it get this bad, if I can give you any advice it’s to stop caring about turning red and just accept it as it is. Humans come in all colors, just accept the fact that you’re red and try to accept the fact that it’s ok to be red and hiding it will only make it worse. I can give you all the advice in the world but if you don’t try it, it will never work. I wish you the best of luck and it’s a huge relief to hear other people have the same problem as me, stay strong everyone and keep trying to find a way through blushing!

I know you filmed this years ago but I've just came across it and totally relate especially in how someone might say something and it sticks in your mind, like if someone asks me something I instantly turn red like my body is assuming I'm going to be pointed out and made fun of, but because I am red I then panic more that people will think I have somthing to hide or I'm lieing because I so obviously look awkward and embarrassed when I'm actually just panicked....

Your friend's negative take on an innocent situation has clearly planted a seed of doubt in a mind that's already prone to such things and I really feel for you. The truth is that people rarely give more than a passing thought to other people's intentions on such a brief interaction. This goes for nervousness and blushing too. The sooner you can see the blushing as being irrelevant to those around you the less importance you'll then place on it yourself. I'm sure it's hard to see this now but you seem cursed with being overly thoughtful about other peoples feelings when they're probably too busy being self conscious themselves to notice what's going on physically or emotionally with you. Sorry if any of this sounds harsh or preachy, but you seem like such a painfully nice guy I just want to give you a massive hug and tell you everything will be fine. x

ye bad thing about blushing for anxiety is that you start thinking on what people will see awkward, or what if you blush on certain moment so you get related to that... XD that happens to me a lot , It sucks because it's a reaction thinking regards the rest, to no disturb them, to be "normal" but people that don't have anxiety blushing they'll just keep associating that to you; like you are actually thinking that.. It just sucks... and it's mentally exhausting It gets to you to the point of skiping things and then feel bad about it all. :/

Johnny you are beautiful and that's probably why you get on with children so well who don't judge and just accept you as you are. I have always found children totally un-conditional with their love however you are feeling. Not sure about blushing but I always feel so self conscious but that's just with adults who we know are so judge mental and whose love is so conditional at times.. With children it's so much easier to be yourself!

You are sincere and not in the slightest bit malicious so please try and stop yourself from thinking blushing is a shameful, malicious thing. Blushing is something that happens when you feel a sense of anxiety- you're on the road to recovery out of serious mental illness and you are probably experiencing anxiety through anyone, doesn't matter what age they are or what relation to you. What I would do, is find a bracelet with beads on it and ask yourself why you find blushing so shameful, on each bead ask why? (I.e I think blushing means I have bad thoughts -on the next bead: why do I think blushing means bad thoughts) do this until you rid yourself of this omen. Let yourself be free Johnny xxxx

Don't listen to her. Nobody thinks that about you. About the blushing.... I don't know if you're willing to use a little bit of make up. I don't know just some foundation or something little, maybe if they find you an exact match for your skin tone you can wear a little bit so it looks natural as if you're not wearing any, I know it will not cover the blushing completely, but it will tame it a little. You're doing so well keep trucking! I hope this helps. xx

Hi I'm similar to everyone in the comments blushing is bad it makes you feel transparent but it shows all your emotions and it is an ambarrasement its uncontrollable and it affects being around people. I've heard about ets the surgery and thats my only hope if anyone here has gotten it done it would be helpful to hear after the surgery if it improved anyone's life

hey bro, i have the same issue. Unfortunately, in my case, i took some acne pills years ago, ruined my skin and developed severe social anxiety and have other health issues. I suffered a lot from this and keep suffering from this. Human beings don't understand you and never will sadly. They're just sitting there and unjustly judge you... They look at you in a very weird way. I used to walk in -30C for hours to avoid public transportation, which lead me to develop premature arthritis...etc. I hope you're doing better bro!!!

ETS surgery saved my life. I will not come back to this comment so I ll quickly tell you my story . I just had ETS surgery a few days ago on my right side and in 1 months I'm having the other side done. It worked perfectly for sudden blushing or when you get in awkward situation as well as when going to hot from cold an vice versa, it reduced my blushing and because its winter I still have some pink but its like a normal pink not that bright burning red. I have been struggling with facial blushing for sooo soo long and had anxiety and panic attacks one after another.. its a long story but the idea is the ETS surgery works and the success rate is very high, its just people who have the surgery just move on and never tell their story to others, only those who have side effects tell their story usually but the success rate is over 90-95 percent. Thats why I decided to write this comment in the first place. In my case I got to a point were my life wasn't worth living so I didn't care about any side effect and for me worked as I expected. all went fine. I got rid of my blushing. Today I have been to a barbershop after 1 year of cutting my hair myself.. and it felt sooo soo fucking good to not blush even tho I got blushing in my left cheek i could see the result. SO do your research and know ETS is still an option but you can decide if is it worth the risk,, but like I sad the reward for me is 100 times better. Good luck everyone.

Sorry i've only just seen this. There's a lot going on for me at the moment but i would recommend joining a group like Mental Health Mates. They are all over the country. Or there is your local Mind or local Rethink. My local Rethink helped me through some really difficult periods. Check them out: www.rethink.org/help-in-your-area/groups-in-your-area/

i was at a low point in life and blushing played a big factor in it and i realised one day im not worrying about being embarrassed im worried about being red i overcame this a while back simply because whenever i felt my self go red i didn't try to fight it i embraced it which for some reason completely got rid of my issue. ps nobody cares if you turn red its actually a quite attractive trate for 90 persent of people

Hi Jonny, A lot of fear around your blushing. It does sound like it has put you in a terrible place. I have a recommendation; allow yourself to blush. Try and make yourself blush and when you do, try to make it worse. What happens? Not much I should expect. Blushing is an involuntary nervous system action. Annoying yes but also harmless. If you're willing to accept you're blushing, I think you can diminish some of its hold on you and some of the fear. I shake. I used to shake a lot more but I've dealt with it how I've described. Don't run from it. Ollie

Jonny Benjamin 1 You probably wont read this, but if you do I just want to tell you to not feel ashamed about your thoughts, shame is what fuels them and seeing someone else going through the turmoil they bring makes me want to cry because they. are. hell. please remember that so many people have these thoughts with anxiety and that you are not alone. Here are some tips that helped me: > Write them down in a book, this doesn't have to be neat writing it can be just scribbles and then burn them or shred them to symbolise letting go of them, > Imagine those thoughts entering your mind through one door and leaving through another, I hope these tips help, I know they're not for everyone but I just wanted to let you know you aren't alone and please don't feel ashamed. :)

I also blush when I feel someone is close to me... someone strange... it is uncomfortable but it is honest... you blush when you see someone sees you... don't think about what others might think... you know who you are... this is what matters... I love you...

I am brown but my face can still go so red, once, I was playing basketball when I lost a round and started turning red because I was embarrassed in front of my friends. Then the opponent came up to me and was like "Yo, your face is as red as a...tomato! Your blushing so much, look at your fucking red ass ears, steam is gonna blow out!" and another guy said, "Ya, are you like outraged cuz you lost or are you sunburned?" Then my friends approached me almost scared and said, "WOAH, your face is like...red red....I mean red!!" All this started making me a little angry because I already have slight anger issues and it was a hot day, I was just not in the mood, so I got so angry and bursted, driving me even redder than I was! I was shirtless and somehow my chest started turning red and so did my stomach, making me look sunburned. One guy approached me and said "The sunburn seems to be making you quite mad, but you're brown-skinned...I didn't know you guys could turn redder than me! I was just pure annoyed that people were focusing on my red face, like can't they leave me alone, they know my anger issues and have seen me blush before! I was red for a while before it started fading off. But the thought of that moment made my face go red again, at the most random times. Now every time I exercise, I go very red making people stare and question me. No one in my family has this blushing red face thing that I have, everyone thinks its cute saying I have rosy cheeks, but it is not as simple as rosy cheeks, my whole body will go dark red and burn. Some people point out that my red face just makes me angry, and for some reason, I get super red when I get angry! And I have quite large ears, and my ears go red too! Like what the actual hell!? Once I was at a waterpark, and everyone wanted me to go shirtless so I could show my "muscles'', and I was like "Uhmm no, you have seen how red my chest goes, if my face goes red, I'm going to look sunburned again! And we were in an indoor waterpark so that made it more awkward. One kid said, "You sure tomatoes can go down such a slide?!" My anger was so bad I felt like fighting but I controlled it, just making me more red. Honestly having a red face is just torture. If there was a blushing society I would immediately become president.

Thanks for your comment. People don’t realise that their words/actions can truly impact another person. I wish they would be kinder and more considerate. You’re not on your own with both blushing AND the way people respond. I would recommend the book Red Face. It should be on Amazon. It really helped me and I think it might help you too
