Great vid, really appreciate you making these because there are some certain "little tricks" with dnb production that don't apply so much with other genres. You did something which I slowly worked out myself a few years ago - cutting the bass into hig/low with EQ then processing just the high end. It's a great technique if you're dealing with "squelchy" filtered basslines. I love how your vids have a "template" for beginners, but also show more advanced effect chain stuff that I never would have thought of. I got into dnb around 97, then when Ed Rush & Optical's "Wormhole" came out I was totally hooked. Some of the Virus singles were amazing around then too, Sick Note b/w Watermelon was a beast, always had that in my bag. Also basically every C4C tune that came out from 2000+. If you were DJing on a good system then the Full Cycle stuff would sound great, on a party rig - not so much. Those older FC tunes were definitely mixed for the dancefloor with a heavy system, even stuff like the album "Newforms". Sounds good on a hifi, sounds SICK on a rig! If there was one thing I need help with, it's making "techy, rolling" drums. I've tried different techniques with using a processed drum loop (often chopped), and then layering single hits over the top. Various EQ and compression settings with the different parts, but I can't quite get the drums to "glue" together. It's easier with an amen/tramen loop, but a lot harder IMO with minimal, techy drums. I might sign up to your online course just to try and sort this drum problem lol! I normally use Fruity, but I think most ideas would transfer over from Ableton. Peace from the UK man, big up yaself!
@STRANJAH4 жыл бұрын
Cheers for writing this post. Yes the audience skill ranges here so I want to have enough material for beginners and advanced producers. The wormhole sound definitely changed the game. best way to do a frequency split is using multiband dynamics and soloing the different bands on different chains
@STRANJAH4 жыл бұрын
What plugin would you do that with, and do you still have the ability to do split FX processing?
@marscrasher4 жыл бұрын
@@STRANJAH yes you just create an audio fx rack with 2 or 3 different chains (depending on how many bands you want to split the signal into), then on each chain you put a multiband dynamics (ableton effect) and solo the region you want that chain to be for. then map the split points of each to 2 macros on the fx rack and youre done. then you can save the 2 and 3 way splits as racks and use them whenever. the reason to use multiband dynamics is because the split points in that plugin are very clean and transparent. if you do the same with eq8, you will create a notch or resonance at the split point as you wont be able to get it accurate
