The smooth running of that loco looks so good. There's something about having a model of a engine that you remember from childhood adds a lot of sentimental value.

I repaint models somewhat frequently, so I have a few tips. I always thin down my acrylic by dipping my brush in water before getting the paint itself. This aids in getting thinner layers, so that you can do more layers. That way, you can truly disguise the wasp stripes. Hope this helps!
@ThatModelRailwayGuy11 ай бұрын
Yeah when I said in the video I was using thin coats of paint that's basically what I did. I think it just needs a few extra coats to really cover it over for under the bright lighting. Thanks for watching 😃

I can certainly see how a fond memory of a loco like this would make anyone want to have a model of it in their collection. The unit from Rapido looks great and the modification you have made work so well - very well executed modification. Reminds me of the dock industrial loco that my Dad used to show me on static display at Dagenham dock when I was small when he would take me to work; I only wish I knew what type of loco that was . The Hunslet looks great on the layout too, sound amazing.
@ThatModelRailwayGuy11 ай бұрын
Yeah, when I was younger I always wanted someone to make a model of these locos. Now Rapido have stepped up and while they haven't done Primrose quite like I remember her, it was great fun to try a bit of "proper modelling" while putting this video together. Thanks for watching 🤩

I think this modification really does look quite effective. Obviously there's some improvements that could be made, like renumbering, and painting the white rims on the wheels, but really it does look the part. That tip for painting the name plates is really useful - I'll keep that in mind for if I ever need to paint etched nameplates. Something else for me to keep in mind is to actually finish the whole video before commenting, which is the reason I deleted my last comment - real facepalm moment for myself there.
@ThatModelRailwayGuy11 ай бұрын
Yeah the nameplates do look good when finished like that, so much easier that painting around the letters. Haha, no worries. But yeah it definitely helps to watch the whole thing, especially if it's something you're planning on trying yourself. Thanks for watching 😃

Pva , or expos equivalent of rocket card glue is also good for nameplates.. it's what I have used on mine. Oh....and didn't Primrose run with whitewalled tyres when you volunteered at Embsay? That's not too scary a job to do if you wanted to... Nicely done though sir
@ThatModelRailwayGuy11 ай бұрын
Yeah I considered PVA too - my only thing against that is getting the amount wrong and having it ooze out the sides 😅 She did indeed... I'll leave that one for another day though. Alternatively with Rapido now making a preserved version with the whitewall tyres I might see if they end up with any spare wheel set that I could swap in. Thanks for watching 😃
@darkfrag8311 ай бұрын
@@ThatModelRailwayGuy I use a cocktail stick with pva, a couple of pin pricks, you can in theory get rid of any excess as it goes tacky before it sets..... Not a bad idea re the wheels. @sliverjack02837 ай бұрын
so do all hunslets have that stay alive feature or is it just the dcc sound fitted locos?
@ThatModelRailwayGuy6 ай бұрын
This wasn't a sound fitted model, I added the sound decoder myself. The only difference between DCC Ready and Sound Fitted though models is the decoder being fitted by the factory. The PCB on the loco doesn't have solder pads for a stay alive so you'll need a decoder (sound or not) which either has the solder tabs or flying leads to connect a stay alive to. Hope that helps and thanks for watching 😃
