If it’s not regulating the temps correctly I’d say give recteq a call. I would think they’d make it right. I’ve never had any problems with mine at all. Always been spot on!

Burning mine in right now. Have mine set at 400 degrees. It’s dipped down to 250 once and then went back up. Not super happy about that. Hopefully that’s just something to do with running it for the first time
@clint2627 Жыл бұрын
Well I finished the hour burn in and it stayed at temp the rest of the time. Did not dip down anymore. I’m guess the auger wasn’t full of pellets yet when it dipped down that one time.

What do we do with the pellets that don’t burn? It’s safe to just leave them in the smoker or we have to pull them out?
@SmokinSteve2 жыл бұрын
Just leave them in the smoker. After your cook your supposed to turn the power off then the smoker should go into cool down mode and then the auger will turn a little bit to get your fire pot ready for your next cook. You can safely leave them in the smoker and the hopper. I leave mine in all the time and it’s out in the weather too, but I’m in Florida so there is no snow or ice to deal with. The pellets definitely need to stay dry or they will swell up from the moisture and be useless. As long as they stay dry it is safe to just leave them alone after your cook.

Nice new addition to the line up. Cast iron grate will be just like your old Akorn. Hopefully you paid for this and can give us a honest review with the good, bad and ugly.
@SmokinSteve4 жыл бұрын
I did pay for it and I'm not getting anything for promoting or reviewing it. So far I'm pretty happy with the purchase and think I'll use it a lot more because of the ease of everything, from lighting to temp control. This thing gets up to set temps in a hurry. Still a lot to learn and find out about it, but right now I think it's a winner at a reasonable price.
@desun754 жыл бұрын
SmokinSteve do you think you will be smoking on it or just grilling?
@SmokinSteve4 жыл бұрын
Oh yeah ... Smokin for sure and grilling. I’m going to try everything I could do on the BGE and the Akorn to see how it does and how it compares. Can’t wait to get going on it.

SmokinSteve what’s the biggest turkey that it will accept?
@SmokinSteve4 жыл бұрын
Not sure at this point ... the best way to do one would be spatchcock, which in my opinion is the best way anyway. You are limited by the height of the lid, but the grate is plenty big. It’s larger than my Large BGE, but doesn’t have the lid clearance that the EGG has.

Hey Steve, I just started my "brand new" rtb380 and it makes an awful grinding sound. I turned it off within a few seconds and emailed a short video clip of the issue. I also noticed there was no plastic covering over the led display...I wonder why? Also, upon unboxing, I also noticed the bolts on one side of the hopper lid were not installed ...I found the bolts in the auger tube (before I turned it on). Obviously I am not impressed at all thus far.
@SmokinSteve3 жыл бұрын
Wow! Doesn’t sound good at all. Definitely take it up with customer service at RecTec. They should take care of you.

@Hiran Perera I can't recall what the issue was but it's been running strong since the initial issue was resolved. I will say that when I set temp to 500 and walk away it climbs well past 600F. The folks at recteq have always been respectful and try to be as helpful as possible. That said, it's disappointing that the temp control is obviously not working properly. I usually just grill steaks at very high heat and so I've not bothered calling recteq back again...but I imagine I will if want to smoke something low n slow.

Did the initial burn in last night. I used my weber ambient probe to see if the temps were close. I am getting shoot ups over 100-130 higher than what I have it set to after about 20 minutes in. Tonight I switched pellet brands, did another run at 300 degrees. It my weber probe got up over 400 degrees. after about 45 minutes tonight I kept the temperature set to 300 degrees, my weber probe back down to 340-350 but nothing lower than that. This is frustrating. I haven't attempted to cook on it yet. Has anyone else experienced this? I have emailed recteq, no solution yet.
@SmokinSteve3 жыл бұрын
Just a comment or two .... Make sure your Weber probe that you're putting in is right next to the ReTeq Probe, that way it will be apples to apples reading temp at same spot in grill. There may be some hotter spots in the grill other than where the RecTeq Probe is. Also you might check it against another probe that you may have, but I'd definitely have it right next to the RecTeq Probe. This may not be an answer to the problem, but if I was trying to verify temps that would be what I would be doing. If you find out the answer to your problem come back here and let us know what it was .... thanks for watching and good luck!
@jasonmcginnis49323 жыл бұрын
Good idea. I went out to the grill put the Weber probe right next to the Recteq probe. Both are showing the same temperature as the outside current temp. I went through the settings on the machine to the temp setting to see if it would read the current temperature outside. Pretty much spot on so it can’t be an issue with the probe. I guess my next step is to run the grill with the Weber probe right next to the Recteq probe and go from there.
@SmokinSteve3 жыл бұрын
Sounds like maybe you found the problem .... if they are reading the same ambient temp when next to each other, my guess is that they will read the same when you fire it up. Sounds like maybe you didn't have the weber probe next to the RecTeq probe when checking it before. Hope this is the only problem and you can get to smokin' with confidence. Curious as to the fix here .... keep us posted
@jasonmcginnis49323 жыл бұрын
Well I fired it up with the probes right next to each other. Set the bullseye to 300. Within 20 minutes, my Weber probe got up a little over 400 degrees. Then it started to come down slowly. Unfortunately the lowest temp it showed after 35 minutes was 365 then started to increase a little. Recteq called shortly after, they basically told me to just trust the $400 machine and to cook to temp not time etc. Not sure what to think.
@SmokinSteve3 жыл бұрын
I always cook by internal temps of my meats and not time. Too many variables when cooking by time .... temps, size of meats .... etc. I have never even checked my Bullseye for accuracy .... I just never felt the need because the end results were delicious. I would say if you're seeing smoke being produced from the Bullseye when running between 225°-250° then that may be good enough. When it runs much above 250° then you're not going to see much smoke. I would get to cookin' and see how she does .... Like I say I've been sooooo happy with the end results I never bothered to verify temps. Hope this helps ... come back and let me know how it turns out

Yes it does … you can monitor meat temp in the digital display along with grill temp and set point. A button toggles between the 3 displays and you can monitor any of the 3 whichever you select.
