People said the same about blues, jazz, and rock. I have never found a popular musical genre that when it's history, message, and intricacy has been considered isn't breathtaking. Before you write a whole generation of music off based on the little you've heard of it put some effort in. Learn what the inspiration is, who likes it and why they like it, what the history is. Listen to the classics of the genre not just what you hear in stores. You'll change your mind.

John Williams makes it look like he is doing nothing at all. Sublime playing. He doesn't break sweat! It sounds like his technique is a gift from the Gods, but it is just a result of years of devoted practise. He studied at Segovia's Summer School from the age of 11. Encouraged and taught from early years by his guitar-playing Dad and then tutored by the best. After that it was just down to about 25 hours-a-day practise.

Imagine him being invited on to a show like this to play classical guitar these days. Wouldn’t never happen. Another small sign of how we’ve degenerated.
@someonecausticandignorant5 жыл бұрын
I want to respond to this very carefully because that last sentence you added dearly frustrates me as someone who loves classical music: I find your kind of pompous conceit is what most often ruins classical music in the eyes of mainstream listeners who might otherwise enjoy it for what it is - music - if not for the notions of elitist superiority which turn consumption of this genre into toxic circle-jerks for theory snobs. If it's truly out of passion and interest that you listen to this music - why do you feel compelled to disparage others for how music in popular culture has changed, presumably with the internet? To shame this "small sign of how we've degenerated" you feel without clarification as to what constitutes, in your eyes, as 'degeneration' sounds like a dog-whistle for something very uncomfortable. Even when assuming your intentions are innocuous, your statement still negates any appreciation of this music as its own taste through abject cultural arrogance. It isn't better for being conceptually complex and theoretically virtuosic, it's simply a different taste for a different inclination - Wagnerian rhetoric doesn't lend itself too well for those who might enjoy classical music as entertainment. In my eyes, most functioning & autonomous societies with any honest concept of diversity would have & recognize dissenting perspectives and personal taste from a creative perspective. I find it troubling you ignore this so casually, and not to mention, quite ironic. This video was a fluke btw - even (and especially) for the time. Talk shows in the nineties would usually have the same (or similar) kind of dumb shit you see on Jimmy Kimmel, Jimmy Fallon, SNL, or John Oliver on KZbin & cable T.V. today. The surface level of any commercial mass-media culture is usually shallow and pandering to trends to keep ratings up and profits manageable. If you think the nineties were any better, then I honestly feel you have no grounded concept of commercialism & trends in the context of art/entertainment.

Une main droite d'une stabilité remarquable pour ce trémolo de F. Tarrega, une pièce remarquablement écrite et parfaitement bien jouée par un des plus grands maitres de l'instrument. Superbe.
