I just watched your video from 2018 on the new colossus that is the Macallan distillery. I have watched all of your Recycled Reviews and have tried to recall if any of those empties was a Macallan. I honestly can't recall one bottle. I find that quite telling. I'm not in any hurry to replace the Macallan that I do have, and considering the scale of their operation, I don't think they would much care.

Last Deanston I tried was surprisingly totally brilliant. Was a bit sad to hear the Arran Amarone wasn't so flash but I too find these wine cask finishes sometimes all over the place. Fun reviews Roy keep up the excellent work!

With you on the Glendronach. Many seem to slate it for not being as good as the old 15 - I thought it was a great example of a rich and easy drinking sherry bomb with some classic leather and fruity spice notes.

Loved the opening shot from the bottom of the Bin!! Regarding Basil Hayden, I have never had it, but I do enjoy Old Grand-dad BiB which is a higher ABV and a lower price at least hear in the States. I am sorry to hear Glengoyne are discontinuing the 15 yr. I enjoyed it. I have the Cask Strength Batch 6 on my shelf at present. Bliadhna Mhath Ùr/HAPPY NEW YEAR!! Mike

Ahh Roy, always really enjoy the Recycled Reviews. In a way a definite review of a whisky by you, not just the first/second sip counts as we so often see. As for the CC series: .CC:01 Cognac Cask; MRC:01 (Bordeaux) Mouton Rothschild Casks; MC:01 Marsala Casks. And then some distillery only Valinchs in 0,5 l bottles : CSC:01, MNC:01, MOC:01; PAC:01, SHC:01, SYS:01, VOC:01. Bruichladdich sure loves its abbreviations, most importantly keep the end "C" for cask or else people might think different. ;-)

I'm really enjoying your videos and just subscribed. I really like your concept of "hook", never heard that from Ralfy. It makes so much sense - for some people it's likely sweetness or oakiness, for others - peat and so forth. It really adds to trying to describe smell and taste with words (an ultimately impossible task). Thank you.

Would love a Chateau Green Spot just for the higher ABV, I feel like the regular Green is let down a bit by the 40%. Also, feel exactly the same on the Laddie - nearing the end of my first bottle and will probably get a different Bruichladdich just to 'see' more of the distillery. Love these reviews!

Hi Roy - I like your style and you complement Ralfy perfectly! DYC whisky?!! Sales might flounder in NZ as it stands for Dominion Yeast Company, for generations the most reached-for malt vinegar for pickling onions, gherkins and a variety of vinegary condiments!

The Chateaux Montelena is nice stuff. Really gets much better with time. I do find a lot of Arran pretty hot in general. Love the grapey note I get from the new Revival. Solid stuff. Great video Roy. Cheers.

I just finished my bottle of Arran Amarone last night. I love Arran 10 and the 14 is one of my top 3 favourite whiskies so I kept hoping I'd discover something I'd been missing in the Amarone. Sorry to say, I never did. Like Roy says, it's hot and the wine finish just doesn't quite work. I've got an unopened bottle od their sauternes cask (bought because I really like Glenmorangie's) so I'm hoping for better things from that.

A new month, a new season of the year, and a new recycled video. The world is in order. Many thanks, Roy, for the tip to try the Teaninich 10 F&F. I'll give that a go sometime soon. And respect for your independent opinion of the new GlenDronach 15, which many purists have turned up their noses at. As you say, it's a new whisky - a genuine 15yo with a new cask composition - so it deserves to be evaluated as such, rather than compared endlessly with a dram which has been discontinued for almost 4 years now. Oh, before I go, Palo Cortado casks - have you tried the new Arran 12yo Master of Distilling II with a Palo Cortado finish? I'm enjoying it with a teaspoon of water. Cheers!

Just found your channel and it's fantastic Roy. Binged watched all your videos over the weekend. I need your help and advice though. What are your suggestions for getting deeper into whisky? I like a whisky as such but want to start getting into it more. I've tried all the types like a Speyside, Lowland, Highland, Islay etc.... and know they taste different but I can never describe what I get on the nose or palate. I hear you talk about things and just have no idea how you pick them up. The other night for example I bought a 3 miniature set of Glenfiddich. I poured them all and left for a bit to open up and then tasted the 3 of them. They were the bog standard 12 year old, the 15 year old and the 18 year old. Whilst I agree that they all smelled different and tasted different I couldn't really pick out individual notes like apple etc... that you pick out in your reviews. It's frustrating the life out of me as all I can get is a whisky nose and taste. Hope you can give me some help and advice on my journey.

Practice. Seriously, find big flavours and "hooks" to begin with - sherry matured brings dried fruits and spice, enjoy the smoke of a peated whisky and the sweet vanilla, coconut and honey from bourbon casks. Try to brainstorm what you're tasting, nothing is wrong, you'll get better in time. Download a whisky flavour wheel to help prompt you and don't feel weird about it, in time things start to appear, and as you isolate and label them you build a library that you can refine over time. Enjoy it & Good luck!

after hearing all your rave reviews about deanston i decided to buy one myself. so i got the Virgin Oak nas one; got to say it had potential but it wasn't floating my boat on the first dram. so i let it sit a week after emptying it. tried it again and it got better and then i decided why not add a few drops of water and then wham! on the money..the water toned down the bright pepper notes and brought out the sweet fruits..now i see why you love the juice..

I wish I could find the Benromach imperial strength... That's a tough one to dig up around here, and they usually command a steep premium over the standard 10... P.S. love these recycled reviews btw. One of my favorite formats out there for whisky reviews.

Unfortunately for me the F&F Rosebank wasn't as good as I thought it would be. I initially tried it in a pub and put it down to the Guinness that ruined it however when we went to the Whisky Social we also tried it there. I still didn't find much joy with it maybe my palate will warm up to it down the line. The Daftmill Winter Release is amazing and I was lucky enough to get a sample of it from Francis, eternally grateful for that. Deanston is something I need to explore more. I have had the Bordeaux cask one but other than that, I am pretty new to Deanston. What should I try? Cheers Roy, always love these.
