You can feel the sadness of the people who have endured many, many tragedies for the past several centuries. I can feel the nostalgic longing for the past when the ones you loved were still vibrant and alive. Once death visits upon those you have loved and cherished, the whole world becomes a cold distant foreign land. This song tries hard to keep whoever listens from crying by quickening the tempo in the end.

Rachmaninoff, Tchaikovsky, Prokofiev, Shostakovich, Mussorgsky, Glinka, Scriabin, Stravinsky, Borodin...I'm an American, and I would say you and the Germans (Mozart, Beethoven, Mahler, Brahms, Schubert, Wagner, Schumann, Mendelssohn, Handel, Strauss, etc.) are neck and neck...you've given the world a lot. Rachmaninoff is my personal favorite--I think the Adagio Sostenuto from his 2nd Piano Concerto is the most beautiful and Romantic piece ever composed...and give the French credit--they damned well know how to write a national anthem!!! kzbin.info/www/bejne/iXrbgJ9neteUjqM

@@user-lh6se6fs9b I appreciate beautiful things wherever they come from. As an American I was never fond of communism, but that doesn't mean I can't appreciate the courage and valor of the Red Army without which victory in WWII would not have been possible. I hope for the day our two great nations will have an eternal friendship, because I believe we have much in common. As for the music the great soul of the Russian people shines in the music of your composers. Do you listen to any American music? I mean the good music, not the trash that pollutes our airwaves today. There is much of our older popular music that is very good, even beautiful. Have you listened to any of it?

Finally someone acknowledges the crazed dictator that was Macias Nguema. Dude was clinically insane, played "those were the days" by gene raskin when his own henchmen committed executions, also called himself a "hitlerite socialist", and even a family member couped him, just to establish a slightly less repressive yet still repressive regime.
