So many great and thoughtful details in a game that's over thirty years old. Even with such basic graphics you could navigate by landmarkss. Gun jams, engine damage, I think your pilot could even be hit and bleed out. The team put so much love into this, it made me want to learn more about aviation in this era.

for some reason the author looks to the left, to the right, back... but does not use the upward view, and this is the most important view! When the aircraft is turned 90 degrees along the horizon in search of a target, looking up helps to see the target early and begin to level it off. Nevertheless. God, what warmth radiates from this game. I played it around 1995-1997, it was one of the first games I played like crazy. This video is just a teleport to childhood, thank you 😭

I believe my personal career record was 242 victories (205 planes and 37 balloons) as an Allied pilot, on 100% difficulty, starting early in the war all medals won (7 British, 2 French and 2 US, medals with bars included), having shot down every single German ace in the game except Loewenhardt and Boelcke (who didn't survive the war anyway) with only a few failed missions (reconnaissance escorts) and a score just short of 20, 000. Never wounded, never captured, never having the oil system or fuel line damaged, once damaged enough to spew smoke by aircraft and twice by flak. Never re-started any mission (by exiting the game via ctrl alt del or otherwise). All played in one go. Planes flown (in order): Morane Bullet, Airco DH2, Nieuport 17, Sopwith Triplane, Sopwith Camel, Sopwith Snipe. Squadrons flown in: No 11, No. 24, Storks, No 56, No 3, No 94 aero, No 56 again and No 60.

how do you get this sound? could you please give some information?
@professen7 жыл бұрын
Hey, first get yourself Munt, that's a mt-32 emulator. Then configure your dosbox files to actually use that emulator (tutorials can be found for that, if you have the gog.com version, you just have to edit the config file in your red baron game folder) and then open the resource.cfg in the game folder and change the first line to soundDrv = mt32.DRV

Hi, Great video! Red Baron is my all-time favourite flight sim. Could you tell us what you did to achieve that excellent sound? Many thanks. Cheers, Derek
@damsonn2 жыл бұрын
Hi Derek. He used Roland MT-32 emulation. Probably with Munt (Roland emulator). Nowadays you can use custom DOSBox builds that integrate Roland emulation, like DOSBox ECE. You still need rom and pcm file dumped from actual sound card. Cheers!

A Fantastic Simulation. The early 90's. The Amiga 500 -Version sadly was only playable with a Turbo-Card, higher than 20 MHZ, otherwise you've had a lot of Stutters. I've played Red Baron with an Amiga 2000 at 25 MHZ, very smooth and liquid and it was simply great. But it had only 32 Colors. On an Amiga 500 it was not playable (only 7 Mhz Core-Speed). But it was the Mother of all WW1- Sims! Today I'm playing Rise of Flight, Wings Over Flanders Fields and Il-2 Sturmovik Flying Circus.
