I know I'm in the minority but the red card was deserving because Lewis-Skelly never played the ball. He intentionally stomped on Matt Doherty's foot. That should be a red any day. Similar plays of stomping the foot garnered only yellows because they were actually trying to play the ball. Lewis-Skelly did no such thing here. Plus, the fact that he hit Doherty's shin first didn't help either. Even if the ref only showed a yellow, VAR would have intervened and asked the ref (Michael Oliver) to look at it again for serious foul play. Oliver would have issued a straight red.

This is very similar to that Curtis Jones red card against Spurs last season which got upgraded to a Red thanks to VAR. I will be surprised if this gets rescinded to a yellow card after appeal. So many things wrong with what Stevie is saying 1. That it was serious foul play - MLS tried to trip him, his toes touch Doherty's shin and he steps on his foot.. it happens multiple times every week.. if that's a red, most teams would be playing 10 men 2. That if it's not given for other similar fouls it should still be given now - someone needs to explain the concept of precedence and consistency to Stevie 3. That wolves coach didn't take Gomes out for kicking the ball away where he was lucky to not get sent off - so Stevie accepts that's a bookable offence, but doesn't ask why the ref didn't send him off but says it was stupid of the coach not to take him out 4.
