Patrick Swayze had previously lost his dad to a heart attack in 1982, which is presumably why he conjured his tearful emotion so brilliantly in this scene.

Best scene in the movie in my opinion. I hate to bring politics into this, but mark my words. If Kamala Harris becomes our next president, there's a good chance that this scene will happen for real. We're going to have to fight for our country!

Hands down the dumbest scene in the movie. Dude is all stoic, adamant that he taught his boys how to survive, knows they're speaking in a high danger zone, but still screams out after the boys, not only advocating that they do the opposite of thrive by avenging him, not only breaks his stoicism by screaming in an unhinged way about the justice of his death, but also and mostly, alerts any prison guards to the fact that his sons were on the other side of the fence. Horrible writing in this scene.

It's not like a lot of the movie makes sense. It's all about emotional scenes, with more holes than a swiss cheese. Still fun to watch.

@@davidgoldberg8238 Some of the most effective scenes in movies (or TV) don't actually make much sense, if examined logically. For example, the invaders target a high school for a massacre in this film, but why would they? It's hardly a military priority.

Looking at the landing zone - near or part of a football field. Such a flat area is easier targeted from the air. A football field seems like an ideal target. Also the nearby populace is likely unarmed. Dropping into a firefight without time to assemble your gear is less than ideal.
