I think no one puts enough focus on how badly John wanted to convince Arthur to keep running. He even seemed to be fighting back tears once Arthur gave him his hat. I think John wanted to stay with him more than anything, but Abigail and Jack were what mattered most of all, and that's what Arthur fought to remind him of. Being a man didn't mean going out in a blaze of glory but protecting the people who mattered most. This was Arthur being a man, and it was time that John left to be one himself.

He was told to leave the last person in that gang who cared for him and he knew after this he’d never see Arthur again this would be the last he ever got to see him alive. Sad to see after he manages to hold off the pinkertons he gets jumped off the rat who struggled to kill a dying man. No idea how much that last mission with John mattered if you don’t play the whole game. Micah being killed finally was nice but he deserved much worse than a simple gunshot

I think this was the only protagonist besides Joel that I cried about the most. Arthur was a real one, he left himself there to hold the Pinkertons back while John ran off to get to his family and then Arthur got what he wanted in the end, for his brother to make it out in one piece and died in front of a sunrise

This is definitely the best ending you can get, it fits Arthur perfectly. Being as sick as he was, I don't think he had any reason to go for the money. Helping John would've been something he cared about more than money at this point.

Another really good touch about that scene is the second after John says that the music begins to play, and the songs name is "You're My Brother." I like to think after John said this it gave Arthur that second wind he needed to fight one last time. Also another cool but sad detail is that the song begins with a lot of instruments playing the song together but as you transition into the fight with Micha it becomes mainly the guitar and violin. Once you are practically dying the violin takes over the entire song with these long droning notes, like it's Arthur trying to extend what little time he has left to try to kill Micha. Just some things I find cool in this great scene.

I always found it kinda symbolic when Arthur and Micah are lying on the ground at 2:53, with Arthur on the green and lively grass and Micah on the barren rock. To me it shows that Arthur is still a good soul and even though he is running on fumes at this point is still fighting for a good cause, which we all know is to give John time to escape and be with his family. Where Micah on the other hand is nothing but a man that has no heart or good intent, fighting for himself so he can survive. I know it's kind of a weird thing to think about but it's just kinda subtle.

Dutch's face at 8:14, looking between Arthur and Micah, tells so much. He finally sees he's been played, and realizes how much he's lost, how many people's he's let down, and I think in this moment, between here, meeting with Micah again to murder him, and the events of the first game where he's gone into a full life of crime, he can't forgive himself, and sees himself as the same person Milton was always accusing him of being -- and he's unable to fully redeem himself outside of killing Micah -- but even then, that's an act of revenge that both he and John enact on -- whereas Arthur would be the first to have reminded Dutch that he always said that revenge is a fool's game.

When you play this for the first time you have the rage after Dutch betrays you, finding out Micah ratted the gang out and who could forget that your horse, your horse that you care for since the beginning of the game (depending if you kept the 1st one) just died to a gun shot to the heart and all that rage is spilled out in this scene with the amazing soundtrack of shooting Pinkertons. After he was diagnosed with Tuberculosis he started to change his ways with the time he had left and that’s when the downfall started. He wanted to help more people and give back to the people he hurt but he knew Dutch wouldn’t want too. So he did it behind his back. And as it went on Micah was probably telling Dutch stuff to make him side with him so he didn’t get suspicious of Micah telling the pinkertons where they are and what they’re doing etc. That didn’t happen until they got back from Guarma tho. And after they got back from Guarma is where Arthur’s health started to decline and Micah took advantage of that.

Back when I started playing RDR2, I looked up how to get all the objectives done with Lenny in the bar because I had fun with that and wanted a break from filling out the bestiary. After I searched that one fucking thing, my recommendations were filled with spoilers. Arthur Morgan catches TB, Jack Marston gets Kidnapped, Sean/Hosea/Lenny/Miss Grimshaw gets shot, John Marston kills Micah Bell, and *Arthur Morgan's last stand.* It fucking sucked as someone who was enjoying the story. Now, as someone who finished the story, I'm glad I can come here and watch it, but I'm thinking that this would end up showing up in new players recommendations as well, and unfortunately the only way you can really combat that is if you leave a dislike.

Arthur Morgan is one of my favorite protagonists of all time. If you played the game towards the good ending it really was a story of redemption. He gave his last bit of time left trying to save what was left of his crumbling family and got John and his out of there. This ending had me feeling so damn much. For me, at the end when Arthur says he knows John is his brother, it's coming on the back of Arthur resenting John for the duration of nearly the entire game because John walked out on everyone a fee years prior. John thought he had to tell Arthur that he was his brother because he wanted Arthur to know that despite everything that happened, they were family, but Arthur says he knows, showing that he never hated John for leaving and that their brotherhood was never actually in jeopardy.

I went single wield with a gold cattleman revolver since it was symbolic referring to my play through in red dead 1 because in red dead 1 i had a gold cattleman revolver and that was the only pistol/revolver i used in both games like when jack killed edgar ross and looked at the golden gun i just felt like that needed deeper meaning with the gun and all so i made it to where arthur passed down both his hat and his golden gun to john and i also killed micah with the golden gun

I literally only used my dual Schofields the entire game, never used a primary weapon unless I had to. So when Arthur had his last stand it felt like I was fighting my last fight with the two guns I fought with for the last time

You know those cliches' about people saying they cried when something sad happened? This moment finally had me do just that, after going through the game with Arthur, seeing his experiences and going through the pain he experienced from seeing his family fall apart and suffering from Tuberculosis only to accept the inevitable and fight to save John and his family (i could never force myself to go with the bad endings) Remember when Rdr2 was new and people were like "ugh i wanna play as john!" And when we finally got to the epilogue with john that tune changed to "Wah! I wanna play as Arthur!"

I was angry af but i had goosebumps all throughout it… What an incredible game, never thought I could love a video game character so much as I did for Arthur. I don't think enough people talk about how Dutch steps off of Arthur's hand. He quietly gives Arthur the chance to turn and shoot Micah after seeing essentially his son brutally beaten to death, but Arthur doesn't need to kill Micah. Despite the sick and horrible bastard Micah is, Arthur is either too weak; but I like to think he sees no reason to kill Micah. Arthur is a dead man either way, and killing Micah would be pointless.

I think Arthur was already too weak. He crawled for the gun, clinging to the little hope of actually bringing Micah down with him but Dutch took that chance away. Seeing as how sad he was that Dutch betrayed him, and what became of his "family" he didn't take the shot and just accepted his fate.

Idk man. The whole story of RDR is based on redemption and the Dutch Van Derlin gang which was done perfectly. I would love to see a third red dead game but it shouldn’t have redemption in its title. Maybe Red Dead Revolver II Idk.

7:27 he takes his feet back to stop trampling his hand when he understands that he was wrong about arthur since shady belle and he got irritated by the wrong person, the person who was always there for him. even when he descended into madness. And because of all this, he couldn't forgive himself until his death, knowing the fact that the wrong desicions that he made caused him to lost everything that he had was unliftable for him. thats why a crazy and regretfull man was left of him at rdr1

Right at 7:24 I am pretty much sure Dutch wanted to reply "I know." He wanted to, but couldn't. He wanted to acknowledge that Arthur was telling the truth. Right to the end, Arthur was his best, and most loyal man, but to admit that would be to admit fault. To admit that he was wrong, that Micah played him. That the scapegoats he had appointed: John and Arthur, were the two least to blame for how everything ended. Right there, Dutch realizes it, he sees Micah, beaten and dirty, standing over Dutch's first and best son and realizes that Dutch himself had stabbed everyone he cares about in the back. But he couldn't fully accept this realization, much less vocalize it. So he runs. Abandons Micah, abandons Arthur. Then when John finds him at Micah's camp, that was when Dutch had finally accepted who he is, who he was and what he has become. He chooses to do the only redeemable things he can. Kill Micah the way he should have years ago and give the gang's money to John, one of the only ones who had stayed true to who Dutch had always said he was. Someone even Dutch himself didn't stay true to. After that, Dutch still knows there is no redemption for what he has done, so he resolves to fight to the end. He knows he can't fight progress, he can't fight change, but he also knows there is nothing else for him to do but to fight to the death. So he does. I don't think Dutch's speech at the end of RDR1 was him realizing then that Arthur was right. It was him finally divulging something he had realized years ago, but didn't have anyone who would understand to say it to, until he, with his back against the wall, had a private moment with his last remaining son: John.
