Not gonna lie I felt the same way. I spent months on end playing RDR2 before I even got to the sixth chapter. Arthur grew on me. He felt like a close friend. It says a lot about how well written this game is, that this scene is so powerful. It’s a story about outlaws, train robberies, bank heists, loyalty, betrayal, revenge, high adventure, and the crushing fist of the government. …and yet, one of the most emotional and satisfying moments of the whole story is riding to the bank to take out a loan to buy a house. So many other developers would have skipped this because it’s “boring.” The buildup and execution of this scene is excellent, to see somebody finally on their way to achieve the dream that the main characters chased all the way through, subverting expectations on how that dream is actually achieved.

Alot of people saying this part was really sad, but tbh this was probably the most peaceful part of the game. All that tension that I felt in those last few chapters of Arthur's story, all the deaths of friends and gang members left me in a constant state of suspense and dread. Arthur's death finally brought some ease to my nerves, but it wasn't until this scene that I could infer it was all good, wholesome vibes from here on out. At least until the events of RDR. Sure it's a reminder of Arthur, but instead of feeling like a tragedy, it was more relieving that he was finally able to rest so the knot in my stomach could stop.

This is the only one of these parts where it plays a song in the background while you ride away that doesn't infinitely depress me

Bruh are you listening to this song. That’s some sad stuff.
@Clarkaraoke4 жыл бұрын
@@corbinhoevers Yes but, did you play the game? They play this song after all of John's hard work starts paying off, after he gets approved for the bank thingy so he can own a home and get his wife back. It's meant to be bittersweet, I'm sure. The fact that it all leads to a sad ending doesn't diminish the happiness of this moment, at least for me

And I think, even, that it may be the final point of the game even. Happy moments are few and far between but savouring them is what makes an otherwise cruel existence bearable. Taken out of context, this can definitely be seen as a major emo moment. But it's actually not. They're almost playing this song, about the cruelty of life, ironically, because, I must add, "All the hard work" John has been putting in has been, for perhaps the first time in his life, honest, hard work, and the game shows that it pays off more than John's criminal behaviour. I mean, literally speaking even, the "honest working john" missions take up maybe 3-5% of the whole game, yet it can be said they're some of the most rewarding missions in the game, because they lead back to John getting his family back. But of course, it's only a matter of time before some other no-goodnicks force johns hand into returning to his old ways, by trying to rob John and his honest employers, which goes to show, as any player of EVE online or Haven and Hearth can tell you, that good intentions can get you far, but you'll always be crushed in life without the will to power and a bit of hardness inside you, as it is only when "Jim Milton, working man" is revealed to be "John Marston, former Train Robber Outlaw" do the forces of evil looking to turn john's soul back to the dark side, get driven away. It has a lot to say about human nature I think. We all want idealism, law and order, but there's no getting through life without a bit of violence. "Violence is the supreme authority from which all other authority is derived." -Robert A. Heinlein I hate to sound like a Nazi when I quote this, but try getting through an open pvp game like HnH or EVE with just hugs and kisses and see how far it gets you. John knew this. But sadly, god also knows a quote better than this, "Those who live by the gun will die by the gun" and so it goes for our hero. I think, the "Cruelty" the song is referring to, is that it has taken John Marston this long in life to realize the error of his ways and to correct his course back to the path of good. The "Cruelty", I believe the song is referring to, is that John Marston was robbed, from a young age, of having a normal life. It is cruel that the world never allowed him to be an honest man before. I only hope and pray Red Dead Redemption 3 illustrates Jack breaking the cycle of violence and death somehow.

Red Dead Redemption 3 should be about Dutch next. Even further back to the 1860’s. Imagine them being caught up in the middle of a civil war battle between the union and confederates. There would be young Arthur and John along with a younger Hosea.

After everything you go through in RDR1 and through the Arthur story when John pops the latch on that case, I got goose bumps. Then, when Willie starts singing, knowing John is riding closer to his fate, the emotion is amazing. This freaking game is so well thought out!

This game is better than any movie I have ever seen. You become part of the story, and it ends differently based on your decisions throughout the story. Truly a masterpiece, dare I say, under appreciated?

I’ve never been so happy in a game as I was when John walked out that door in classic RDR attire. Rockstar sure knows how to toy with my emotions
