Actually, the timing challenge is only when you control Arthur/John. When you watch cutscenes, the timing stops/doesn't start until the cutscene ends. The lame thing is that in GTA 5, you can miss one objective but do it again replaying the mission without doing the other challenges because you already completed it. In RDR 2, this is not the case. All challenges have to be completed when you play that mission, if you miss a challenge then you're f'd because you have to start all over again.

Exactly I was just complaining about this in another clip for the A Strange Kindness guide, right after this mission. Timed missions in story-driven games just aren’t fun when you have to slog through so much walk/ride n talk or other time wasting, needing to skip cutscenes, etc. I never have even a minute to finish this last shooting section and then Micah takes his sweet time getting back to the wagon to end it. Will be avoiding timed missions for the Gold Rush as much as possible from now on. Maybe I’ll try one last time doing what someone mentioned about going further into the river.

This is near impossible to get gold. First, you ride out with Micah that almost takes two minutes in which you can’t control your speed because it’s scripted that way. Second, you have to force the coach to go past the bridge, so Micah doesn’t take long to get to the river and that takes maybe two and half minutes. So you can’t really have room for error on the third part of this because you’re looking at a minute and a half or less. When you’re done with the O’Driscolls, Micah takes his time to walk and get to the lockbox to initiate the cutscene. This is a mission that shouldn’t have a time constraint to get gold or at least it should have an extra minute. Thanks, Rockstar.

Those struggling with the timer: don’t kill the driver until you have to. Micah drives way too slow. Also don’t use too much dead eye in the shootout because the timer doesn’t slow down. Try doing it in 1st person if you have problem controlling the gun

Finally done this mission today, OK here's how I did it. First make sure you skip all cut scenes, dead eye the guards around the coach make sure there headshots, dead eye the passenger, let the driver drive abit he seems move the coach faster than micah, dead eye the driver then get on, when you reach the river after cut scene make sure you dead eye the first four enemies so you get your ten dead eye kills, then simply shoot the others quickly without dead eye using explosive rounds in the Lancaster repeater to avoid reload. Micah shouldn't have walked that far and boom blast the lock mission over.

Letting the coach driver speed away until the forest (before he crashes) was key in saving the biggest chunk of time. Thank you! There is always like one trick or "think differently" decision to getting gold per mission it seems. Also, don't spend a lot of time messing around in deadeye at the river and take the bastards head on. Lock on, deadeye, quick headshot. Saves so much time.

I timed the whole thing. Riding with micha to the lookout takes 2:20 minutes. I waste 0:30 slow walking to the road, and about 2 minutes including a forced slow down on the bridges. It takes 2:30 to get the coach to the river. So by the O'driscoll fight, you're at 5:30. Do everything right in both the coach and river fight, it ends at 6:55. Rockstar needs to adjust this mission.

This whole mission would’ve been easy if Micah listened to Arthur and it ended when they stopped the wagon, since all they ended up doing is grabbing the cash out the back anyways. Also, it goes to show how reckless Micah is when he mentions the O’ Driscolls have been “hittin it on the regular”, and then they of course ride right into the latest ambush.

Only advice i can give here is don't spam too much Dead Eye and run & shooting to them. Use DE on sheriffs and 5 O'Driscoll's at the beginning. The rest complete asap without DE because of Micah who's gonna be far from coach and walk like he haves big stick between his legs.

All i do is, skip all cutscene. rush to mount the horse and gallop towards ASAP until it can't, then try to jump until the main road to avoid time wasting by walking by horse along micah. Then right before reaching the cliff where they slow down i start to jump again till the cutscene. When chasing the coach try to shoot the driver at the end of the forest, finally the ambush by the river. Try avoid the dead eye slow motion video, i do press one dead eye for just one enemy and repeat. Hope it will work.

It is possible to do this replaying the mission but it’s a bitch, you have to be near perfect to get it, what sucks is you have no way of refilling your deadeye so you have to be quick and precise with it. I finally got it using that little short cut at the very beginning plus 20 rounds of explosive repeater ammo. I feel like the clock stopped as soon as the last guys run away during the creek ambush. Micah’s evil is on full display in this mission when going for gold. He slows down the pace of the horse ride, he tries to steal your headshots on the mountees, he drives the wagon slow as molasses, and he walks all the way across the river and back for no reason. Also the deadeye in this mission is fucking terrible, I lost count of how many times I tagged enemies just to shoot off only their hats.

Two words: Explosive Ammo. What helped me: •Make sure you craft a sufficient amount before you start the mission. I had ~40, which was more than enough. •Make sure you are crafting the type of explosive ammo that is specifically for the Repeater rifle. •For the first enemies who were guarding the wagon, and for whom we need headshots, I used Express ammo, which is located right next to the explosive ammo in the weapon wheel. This way it wasn’t so confusing or time consuming to switch. The second I got onto the wagon, I made the switch to explosive. •When Micah hands you the Lancaster during the ride, make sure to switch back to Carbine Repeater before you lose control. •AND, after Arthur and Micah jump out of the wagon and hide behind the rock, and before you start shooting, make sure you still have the right weapon and ammo equipped.

I got the gold on replay on my third or fourth try. Tips for anyone playing on replay. 1. As soon as the first cutscene starts, skip it. Once you are back in control, run straight to the horse, start moving on your horse ASAP to get a head start before Micah; forcing him to speed up and catch up to you. (Recommendation: make your horse jump to move him along faster). Essentially, you want to be at the bridge by the time Arthur starts talking about Lenny. This means you are making good time. 2. Skip the next cutscene immediately and start moving on your horse as fast as possible when you are back in control. (Recommendation: stay off to the side and cut the corners to be closer to the guards and the wagon. Also have your pistol(s) ready. I found the pistols to be better for this part in particular). 3. When fighting the guards, you don’t have to use dead eye for all of them. You will probably want to save that for the last fight in the river. Use dead eye on the last two guards if you want or use it on all of them, but pre-aim your gun, go into eye quickly and shoot asap. This will save you dead eye and time. 4. Not a new or huge tip, but helpful. Like in the video, wait until you get into the forest to shoot the wagon driver so you can get to the next part of the mission quicker. What I did was get on the side of the wagon, shoot the driver and hop on immediately. This will make Micah get on the wagon quicker and start pushing. 5 (last tip). Skip pass the cut scene and jump straight into the fight. Pre aim, go into dead eye quickly and shoot asap; just like in the first fight. (Recommendation: shoot the rushing enemies coming from the forest, as they’re running straight and aren’t hiding behind anything). Rush for any remaining enemies to flush em out. Go for head shots to be quicker. Once they start running away, run to the wagon and shoot the lock. I hope this helped.

This will probably be a mission I skip. Luckily you don’t need gold for every mission to get the trophy. I didn’t want to replay any missions while playing through for the first time because I wanted the story to flow organically. I didn’t realize the game would nerf your stats and weapons upon replay. I just need the “Gold Rush” trophy for all single-player trophies. According to the Social Club I’m 38% of the way there and I haven’t even made it past replaying Chapter 2.

This mission glitched out for me. Not really a mission breaking glitch, but nonetheless. After we stole the wagon I guess either Mica took to long driving, or he went the wrong way, because we were driving and driving and suddenly Mica just swerved off the road into a forest and screams the “NOW WERE BEING ROBBED” but there was no O’driscals blowing the trees up, then suddenly it just teleported us to the river where the shootout goes down and everything else went as normal, but it was just weird that it skipped the ambush cutscene.

I used my dlc war horse and he was aggitated all the way down the hill to the stagecoach. Maxed out stats and otherwise fine.

Finally I did it, after 31 times in two days. You have to be absolutely perfect riding the horse, let the coach go slight before the loss of the wheel and at the end you have to shoot almost perfect. It's doable but probably is the most difficult gold of the whole game. Use dead only for ten time, because it's a loss of time and at the end shoot immediately to the coach lock. Unfortunatelt it depends even by the speed of micah getting on the coach and ending the final scene.

Make a save before you do this mission so you can have all your gear ! Skip the cutscenes use deadeye the least you can and let the driver of the wagon take it past the bridge a little and you should get it easily!

Horrible time I'm having trying to get gold here. Luck strikes again. First attempt: Missed by one headshot because even although at this point in the story you can manually mark targets it reverts back to the old painting method and it marked his body 🙈 Second attempt: tried to cut the corner too close and hit the tree sending me flying. Third attempt: shot the guard and Micah proceeded to hit directly into him sending him into a swanton bomb from hell, Jeff Hardy would be proud, I think if he wasnt high on drugs. Fourth attempt: perfect, still didn't complete in 6 minutes 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️

Took about ten tries, but gold is possible. Like what others recommend: *Skip the cutscenes * Disable dynamic kill cams *Be efficient with dead eye, target the head quickly - most important! *Shoot the driver before leaving the woods *Stick to the starting position at the river *Use free aim for the guys in the river and dead eye for those on the other side *Shoot the lock before Micah arrives Thus, don't get discouraged. It is possible.

When you down on the river kill off left side first, the right will hold Mich back so he won't cross. I was just about to give it up for the night and I got gold so happy! Keep trying and don't forget to hit it on the regular! Love that line.

i have a query, i started another file to get the 70 golds and focused more on upping my stats to help w the missions....they'll count, right? i mean, 70 (unique) golds are cumulative for whatever files you have ?

I tried this many times until finally hitting on this strategy and got gold the 1st try. Make sure you have 20 explosive repeater rounds when you begin the mission and use anything beforehand to give you a gold core in dead eye. Make a save just before the mission so you can reload if you miss the gold. Do as others have stated like wait for the wagon to pass under the bridge before killing the driver, etc. After Micah gives you the Lancaster repeater, load up the explosive rounds instead of normal ones. On the first group of enemies near you in the river, fire at them with the pop-up from cover\quick aim method shown in the vid. Any hit with explosive rounds is instant death. When the second group starts in, use dead eye to kill them, which will fulfill the 10 kills in dead eye requirement. If you're quick enough, Micah won't walk too far away and will take less time returning to the wagon for the final cutscene.

This is the first mission I’m going to accept silver on. My goal is to attain the platinum trophy and you can omit Gold on over 30 missions. I plan to do that as least as possible but as everyone is saying; It’s impossible because of the time constraint.

Finally got gold in that. Skipped all cutscenes ASAP, got on horse to get that initial speed burst and jumped for it to move faster until the part in the trail that the oily turd (micah) starts trotting. As someone said in the comments here, i crossed the 2 wooden bridges (before the combat with the guards) and then Arthur asked about Micah and Lenny (it was an indication of very good timing). Killed the 4 guards and the other guy with deadeye (shitty cattleman revolver + high speed ammo) and just bolted towards the bridge/middle of the forest area you should kill the driver at and stood there waiting for the carriage and micah. Shot the driver with deadeye and micah got on the carriage quickly (luck i guess) and my arthur walked around the carriage before getting in (lost like 4+ seconds in that). Battle with o'driscolls used explosive ammo and lancaster rep (more ammo per load), killed some 4-5 guys in deadeye (auto aim, deadeye, mark target and shoot) rest of the guys killed with auto-aim. Carriage guys deadeye and same ammo, didn't get another wave of o'driscolls and as i didn't change position i was close to the lock, shot right away but stood in the way of micah (lost some 3 seconds with him pushing me) but got the gold

One of the hardest golds I’ve got had to do like 4 times I got gold despite killing the driver 5 seconds earlier but I headshot every o Driscoll and skipped every cutscene asap. Tip is to use a varmint rifle for the headshots as it has a faster aim with deadeye and a headshot is always one shot and pre select it before going into the mission and consume a potent snake oil too as everything has to be perfect
