Red Dead Redemption Stories: Uncle (All Cutscenes)

"Uncle" is a major character featured in Red Dead Redemption and Red Dead Redemption 2.
After Abigail and Jack are abducted by Edgar Ross and held for ransom, John reluctantly puts Uncle in charge of looking after the ranch at Beecher's Hope. John is then forcibly sent to New Austin to hunt down Bill Williamson and Javier Escuella. For the duration of the pursuit of Williamson and Escuella, Marston is not in any kind of contact with Uncle. When John Marston finally returns from his quest to bring his former gang members to justice, he finds the ranch in disrepair and the livestock rustled. John continually berates Uncle for his inability to maintain the ranch whilst he was away.
Uncle continues to live with the Marston Family after John's return. Working at the ranch, Uncle can be seen assisting with blacksmithing and animal tending duties. He and John herd cattle on one occasion and break horses on another. At most other times, he can be seen napping around the ranch.
When U.S. Army soldiers and Bureau agents approach the ranch, Uncle spots them and immediately alerts John, enabling them to mount a defense and plan for the escape of Jack and Abigail.
Uncle assists John in fighting the soldiers, but is ultimately shot in the chest by one of the encroaching U.S. Army soldiers. Jack ceases firing and comes to Uncle's side, while John continues fending off the soldiers.
John returns to Uncle and thanks him for his sacrifice, where Uncle demands that they escape, and then bleeds to death. Jack expresses horror at Uncle's death.
At some point in time after the assault on the ranch, Uncle is buried atop the ridge at Beecher's Hope, in the family plot. His grave marker provides no birth year and his epitaph reads "Impossible to forget."

A detail I love is how serious he gets at the end of RDR, when john says "Looks like things will finally be settled old man." and Uncle responds "so it seems", you can tell all the years of experience are coming back to him, and it shows that maybe when he was young, even before RDR2 he was alot like Arthur or John, that all the joking had a serious character behind it. And he was almost a reminder of who they could become if they didn't care.

Not very fun fact: the man who originally voiced uncle in red dead 1 died in 2016. Edit: the guy who voiced uncle in the first game was spider Madison, the person who died was John o’creagh (probs not spelling that right) who was supposed to be the new voice actor but he died before he could record all of his lines.

The VA of Uncle in RDR1 is known as "Spider Madison", of whom I barely found anything other than what is known in IMDB and in a thread at Reddit. He might have disappeared to thin air for all I know, since all I found out is that he is also known as Robert Madison and he appeared in Pirates of the Carribean and numerous other roles, all before RDR1 was released. The VA that died which you are referencing is John O'Creagh, who was never involved in RDR1. In RDR2, James McBride would ultimately take the role of Uncle.

My guy I'm sorry to be the one to tell you this but micah only saved you in that bar fight because he recognized you from a wanted poster. He was originally going to turn you in but when he saw the size of the gang and how good the top guns where he decided to try and make some money off of you instead. After a couple months of robbing he started getting loud and sloppy, starting with the ferry job in Blackwater, which arthur and hosea both said was a bad idea. He did this to attract attention to your gang and raise your bounty. When he first found your poster you was only worth $1000, but after the Blackwater job and the Cornwall train, Arthur alone was $5000. After Hosea died he started working on creating distrust and unease within the camp so one by one people would leave. When the numbers got low he brought cleet and Joe in so the three of them could take you in for the reward money once everybody else left, but luckily you walked away from him after seeing what he'd done to Arthur. I know you never stopped believing in that dream of getting the gang out of there but you shouldn't have trusted micah.

Joe Garrison Javier and Bill were in the northern most province of Mexico during a revolution, the bureau got away with sending one guy to take them out. If John’s family were under the protection of the Mexican president somewhere much further south of the border it would’ve been impossible for them to even find him, let alone kill him. Outlaws would escape to Mexico all the time (many still do actually) the US can’t send people in to take someone in to take people out without the approval of the Mexican government (who would’ve been on John’s side) they got away with it during the revolution because there wasn’t really a cohesive government to stop them, you should read the story of outlaw Augustine Chacon who evaded capture for years by escaping south of the border where US jurisdiction ran out , the only way they could finally catch him was by setting a trap on the American side of the border.

It wouldn’t have been a good life though. John knew that his time was over, and he couldn’t escape his past. True redemption doesn’t exist for men who do the things he did. The American outlaw was a relic of the past, an old monster to be slain. As long as John lived, his family could never be safe. They’d be on the run forever, never feeling safe, always looking over their shoulder. John found redemption in the only way that he could. In death. He ruined his only chance at a good life when he went to kill Micah on mount Hagan.

I was walking around Beecher as John during the RDR2 Epilogue when I found Uncle leaned up and relaxing against that exact same spot where he dies in the first game. Made me wanna look this video up just to recollect; since the similarity struck me. Right after I finish watching, I unpause the game and while he's still laid back in the same spot Uncle says to me: "you look like you're distracted by something, John." you have no idea old man. I always liked the more "crotchety" Uncle from RDR 1. No offense to the voice actor for him in RDR 2, he did a good job. I just liked the more mean spirited dynamic between Uncle and John in the first game, thanks in part to the original actor's delivery. It made for funnier banter imo.
