Red Dot United raises serious concerns over train service disruption and safety risks

Red Dot United (RDU) has expressed significant concerns following the recent derailment on Singapore's East-West MRT Line (EWL), criticizing SMRT's maintenance protocols and questioning the safety of the public transport network.
The incident, which disrupted services for several days and affected over a million commuters, involved a 35-year-old first-generation train whose axle box dislodged while being towed, causing extensive damage to a 1.6 km stretch of track between Jurong East and Buona Vista stations.
RDU raised alarms over SMRT's maintenance practices, noting that failures of critical components like the axle box are rare and potentially preventable with better preventive measures.
The party highlighted concerns about safety protocols during an evacuation following a power trip, particularly for passengers walking on elevated tracks. Additionally, RDU questioned whether SMRT is prioritizing profitability over safety, citing the company's increasing profits and upcoming fare hikes amidst these service failures.
RDU called for a transparent investigation into the derailment, urging the Minister for Transport to take responsibility and prioritize safety, reliability, and affordability in Singapore’s public transport system.

❤ Democracy exist only if voters have Courage to Afford it.😅 But many unable to afford courage, saying excuses like "Aiya, at the end of the day, we still need to earn a living", "Bo Bian one lah", "got food to eat, place to sleep can alreadys. Politics for what?" These are excuses for cowardice because If you really live like a freeman , you speak freely your political opinions. Instead you make politics sound like a crime. Democracy cannot exist if voters regard commenting politics/policies as a taboo. Why taboo? Fear. This is cowardice. A voter without sound knowledge of policy issues and political issues is a blind voter. This is Anti-Democracy and irresponsible. Democracy is effective or not all depending on voter's either they are dictated by their cowardice or they are enablers of democracy.

The questionis not on overmaintenance but why was these first generation train over35 yrs old are still being use on the East West line. Car are scrapped when reach 10 yrs old, Taxi 7 yrs and SIA plane seldom more than 9 yrs in service. The EW line carry 800,000 passengers daily isnt using these old trains make accident bound to happen, The others North Sount and Circle line have newer train. Its show the incompetence of the MRT management team only interested in making moneys and also the irony of raising fare in December. Hope the Workers Party to raise this subject in the next parliment sitting
