Alan Rickman was actually considered to play Lister acording to Rod Grant.

I think it was Alan who suggested playing lister because he thought playing Rimmer would've been 'too easy'. Alfred actually considered playing Rimmer too for the same reason. They eventually stuck with Alan being Rimmer and Alfred being Lister...and then they recast everyone. Although I gotta say, the characters would've been very different with these guys. Rimmer wouldn't have been nearly as neurotic for example.

I think you'll find that model shot is at the end of ''The End'' (Original Assembly Version), which is part of the 4-disc set "Bodysnatcher Collection'', which is fantastic! It's definitely worth the money for all the rarities included with it, especially Chris Barrie reading the lost episode called ''Bodysnatcher''. You can now find it cheap on EBay for around £20.

On The Bodysnatcher Collection DVD released in 2007, there's The End: The Original Assembly feature, which is basically an early cut of the first episode before some scenes were reshot. The ending model shot is presented without any credits.

The only complaint I have is Lenny Henry, he's a superb comedian, but I don't think he has the overall skill and panache to play Cat. I'd suggest Hinton Battle who played the Cat in the American remake (One of Danny John Jules inspirations) I can't fault the rest of the choices though, Hans Gruber, Doctor Octopus and Riff Raff as the rest of the cast is epic. (I'll not list the rest of their very impressive roles as everyone who reads this will have a different view)
