This is the trouble with remastering... Once you start, you never stop.

Considering I grew up watching these remastered versions on VHS... I have to admit I actually kinda like the CGI and almost miss it when I watch the show on DVD now.

Craig Charles was only 23 when he started in red dwarf

the makers always envisioned the show being more colourful and scifi than it looked and so were apparently keen to do this, as longtime fans, we were never put off by the look of series 1 and 2 originally. it was the charm of the early days. so i dont think there was need to remaster. let the future shows have the cgi.

Well done, that was really good remastered version. I liked that.

I was never realy a big fan of the new cgi version but it did give it the ship a very big titannic feel to it. However I still think the origonal Dwarf is the best.

Ye But the new cgi one make sense tho, due to the nanobots, the cgi version is red dwarf without the jmc budget cuts.

Although I hate the CGI Red Dwarf, I like how you used the original theme tune to the remaster. It suited series 1 so much, and it goes well with the remaster. Nice work.

Oh THAT is awesome! You'll have to do more of these sometime! That is SWEET!

Remastered sounded good in theory. The smoother pullback from Lister was nice. Went downhill after that.

The pulling out of the red dwarf sign now in one shot is okay but the GG, what the f?

@Elhaym6 This is on purpose: The old one wasn't built out of an asteroid; it got hit by one, and it stuck, so they jut re-built around it. The new one was reconstructed (along with the crew) according to the 'original' design schematics by Kryten's nanobots.

In the making of Zathura, I think they explain it was their goal to put in as many real effects as possible and steer clear of CGI because it looks cheesy and viewers feel more connected to things that are actually there, even if just models. I agree with that. An old 60's b movie with ugly costumes and corny sound effects is more entertaining to watch than some of the CGI pumped movies coming out these days. The uncut version deserves respect for what it is. I would buy an unedited dvd set.

they did the remastering of the first 3 series in 1998. the CG they used for the ships has aged well for the majority. That said if they were remastered now they could do so much more due to the advances in technology since then

I love more the original Red Dwarf model.. and the original intro of the shot with the ship going by with the music.. The BTE model is actually quite more correct than this pencil... its how it should been in season 8

I'm sorry, but I LOVE the newer CG ship... Say what you will the original was short and stubby, the new one had a much more EPIC feel to it that, well, fit with the music and the feel of the show better... I LIKED it!

I wouldn't mind them remastering the remastered remastered remastered versions of the show. Maybe they'll make it more echoey!

Very nicely done. I'm a fan of Remastered and was disappointed with that cargo bay section not getting used. I don't suppose you could edit Kryten out of Marooned's unused poker sequence, could you? I've wondered what that would be like ever since I first saw Smeg Outs.

Is it the re mastering they did years ago or is it new CGI like on the Tikka to Ride episode ?

From what I've seen so far I still prefer the old look of the first episode but it still looks nice though.

No, this looks a lot fucking worse than the original ship. Coming from someone who just watched series 1-3

It's the same deal as Star Trek. A bad physical model still gives you something that looks material, but a bad CGI model will look out of place in a live action show.

I used to like that it looked shitty, i mean even by 90s standards it was shitty and that was all part of the charm of red dwarf and thats what we the fans loved, the cgi version just ruined it ever so slightly...
@sirdeadlock11 жыл бұрын
It was a shoestring budgeted joke of a sci-fi series. Borderline B movie. When you take a joke seriously, it stops being funny. Like when Lister told The Cat "I am your god" he didn't think that was funny at all and took the notion very seriously, but to Lister it was amazing that there could be such a huge misunderstanding. Same here, they looked at the fan base grow and started taking the show more seriously and so it lost a part of what made it so special.

There's too much echoing on the dialogue and audience laughter. I did like the intro though, that was awesome
