I understand why Batman doesn’t kill the joker. There’s even this one multiverse comic thing from way back when where it explores Batman killing the Joker to avenge Jason Todd. It pretty much shows Batman becoming the Punisher. This Batman was so shocking that even Jason Todd (who was on the team that came to that universe) refused this “Punishing Bat’s” offer to become his robin. I don’t understand why no one else has killed him, or why Gotham won’t give him the death penalty. This guy has killed hundreds, if not thousands of people. Just execute or assassinate him and get it over with.

When Joker says to Batman "We're two sides of the same coin", he actually means that... if there is no Joker... there's no Batman STORY. See the Punisher Spiderman, where Spidey kills every famous Spiderman villain... what's next? Another villain we never heard of? How many more 'original villains' can a writer think of? It's all, good business.

the problem about killing Joker is that he also has a contingency plan, Joker and Batman are the same in the way they think. Remember Joker doesn't have any background story so anyone can become Joker. Heck Joker doesn't even remember who he is depending on the comic as he is like a parasite going from one host to another. The moment someone kills him another version of him will just pop up. There was a movie before titled "Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker" wherein Tim Drake became the Joker shortly when he was brainwashed and a chip was implanted to him when he got tortured. Another example is the 3 Jokers: The Clown Joker, The Criminal Joker , and The Comedian Joker. It was mentioned in that comic that Joker had expose a couple of people with the same toxic so even if he die's another Joker will still be left. In the Dark Multiverse when Batman did kill Joker something worst happened and "the Batman who Laughs" was born. Another is when Superman killed Joker for killing his wife and city the Injustice event happened. Honestly it's really a lose-lose situation.

Thing is, the Red Hood is actually the best person to kill the Joker. Justifiably vindictive, brilliant, controls part of the dark underbelly of Gotham, and in some continuities, despite his propensity for murder, he is actually completely sane. He just knows that some people really should die and the Joker is unredeemable, and he can get the job done. He’s not Batman, who will cascade into never ending killing of criminals.
@armanakcadurniga
@armanakcadurniga Жыл бұрын
@@sugarkane1571 true but Red Hood won't be able to kill Joker so long as Batman is alive since the man will stop him. There is an instance when Red Hood killed Joker. I forgot the game/movie but the story is when Batman save Jason Todd. Instead of Jason dying Batman died on that day. Ever since that day Jason killed all of his enemies including the Joker. Worst part is he went insane, became a criminal in the process, was lock in jail and disregarded Batman's code of never killing/putting justice on his hands. Joker didn't resurrect in this event but since Batman wasn't around anymore I think the guy already lost his motivation. That's why in this story he went ahead and confront Jason without preparing anything and letting himself just be killed in the process. Joker knew he won and got the last laugh, not only was he able to kill Batman he saw that he was able to break Jason as well.

The only reason I can think of is meta; if the creators write Batman killing him then DC would actually have to work and make a new interesting weekly villain. They're pretty old school and lazy. Comics wise, some nerds stated that if Batman kills, even once, it'll be enough to put him 'over the edge' and start killing bad people and eventually the guilty. He's also a vigilante so they cna't murder, but that logic with Joker and Szash running around just goes to show how crazy and useless Batman is in the modern world.

Counterpoint, it's not batmans job to kill the joker, the real question is why hasn't Gotham given them the death penalty. Sure they can plead instantity but after so many times of breaking out and causing so much damage you'd figure at this point they would give him the death penalty regardless of them being crazy.

And yes, I do know extensions exist (though they're far from 100% accurate).

I always think of the whole "Why not kill the Joker?" dilemma through the same lens as in Avatar, with Aang trying to spare Fire Lord Ozai. You have someone who is irredeemably evil, and will inevitably cause harm if they are able. But as someone who is a figure to the world as the identity of good and justice, is it right to kill them? Does that continue the cycle of violence, and show yourself and the world that problems can be solved by killing? Or is it selfish not to, and that you should be able to set your own misgivings and morality aside to end something far worse than you could ever bring about through a single act? It's a great premise because there will never be a clear answer to these questions.

It's said in the comics if Batman kills he will be pushed over the edge and become a psychotic murderer so he holds himself back, not to mention vigilantes aren't allowed to kill according to the law. The real reason though why the Joker and Batman's other villains are never killed (same goes for Superman's, Spider-Man's and any other villain of any super her really) is because the writers can reuse those characters and make the stories go on forever. This is the reason why I eventually lost interest in reading superhero comics.

The legal system in comics is so broken that it hasn’t come up with a way of saying that the villains who kill over and over should be executed the next time they’re taken into custody. Maybe that sounds cold, but in a world that has Jokers committing mass murder all of the time people would demand that kind of action. It’s really the system of government failing in those worlds. Without that failure, the superheroes wouldn’t have to wrench themselves into knots about whether to kill. An outside authority, the legal system, would be taking that decision.

So this is a ignorant question, but is there a ""cannon" types of story to read from "A Death in the Family" to this story? Cause I'm assuming this story takes place a few years after, and there are several comics in between, where I assume red hood and batman reconcile somewhat?

Batman and the bat family as a wholes' "no kill" policy is purely narrative imo, not even something the characters can reasonably believe in, at least not any besides Batman. Treating Jason like he's done something monstrous for killing the joker is messed up, if there's anyone who's earned the right to do it its him. "Oh but thats extrajudicial, they shouldn't be allowed to-" no, not criminals, the Joker specifically. The Joker specifically. The only argument I can see working against killing specifically the joker is that they know if/when he comes back that he'll only be more vengeful than ever, but none of them ever thinks that so it's not a worthwhile excuse.

This is the problem with comics IMO. Every story becomes a tunnel. So no other hero can take down Joker? No anti hero with lose morals can kill him? Insanely ridiculous how that works and how the main antagonist of the world's greatest detective (that can even defeat the Justice League) is just a deranged clown. I'll never understand how people can enjoy them fully honestly.
