that effect you're hearing IS the guitar believe it or not. john was doing volume swells with the volume knob along with some serious filter to achieve it. super cool.

@@jacobryans7000 it means hes picking the string while volume knob the the guitar is all the way off, then he turns the knob while sustaining the note. its tricky to do in real time but Frusciante is a master at it. the intro of this performance john is doing volume swells. it almost sounds like a violin. cheers kzbin.info/www/bejne/nIecen2MpKuFlbM
