Great interpretation. I always saw it as the man couldn’t attach emotionally to her. Her emotions showed through and his emotions closed down. (“Raised by my dad, Girl of the day, He was my man, That was the way...”) He saw his father’s detachment in relationships and this shaped how he conducted himself.

Jamel, I'm glad you mentioned Zeppelin right in the beginning, because this song always gave me a Zep vibe, not only in the guitar riff, but particularly when the flute sound kicks in. Indeed, guitarist John Frusciante has stated that Zep was the inspiration behind the riff, from the song "Friends" off Led Zep III.

One of my favorite RHCP songs, thank you! There are 17 tracks on this album, almost unheard of back in the day. They asked the great Rick Ruben to produce this album, Blood Sugar Sex Magik, who had turned them down on previous albums when Anthony and the late Slovak were still using. He agreed finally, he wanted them to record somewhere that would bring the band together and was unconventional, they settled on the mansion of the late Harry Houdini. The band moved in for over a month while recording, except Chad Smith (drummer looks like Will Farrell) who went home at night to be with wife, although he later admitted going home due to the house being haunted, and while the rest of the band liked that aspect and believed the spirits to be friendly, it freaked Smith out too much. The album would go on to arguably be their best to this day, Rolling Stone listed it in their 100 greatest albums of all time. ✌️❤️️
