Can't listen to this song without going straight into "I Could Have Lied", maybe their most beautiful tune. RHCP and BSSM in particular have fantastic transitions from song to song, something a friend told me they emulated from the Beatles from the Revolver-Abbey Road era. The songs on this record flow perfectly from song to song whether a banger to a ballad or funky to funky.

RHCP biggest influences are the roots of funk; George Clinton - P Funk.., Sly and the Family Stone, Stevie Wonder, James Brown, GAP band, etc, etc .. it's apparent in all of their music, especially their first 2 albums; Freaky Styley and Uplift Mofo Party Plan. A lot of early funk got tossed into the disco bucket in the 1970s. I love funk. RHCP really revived it for the first time since the 1970s .. and as a child of the 60s and 70s funk scene I was beyond thrilled with RHCP.

Jamel you're choking me up talking about how you didn't have electricity & hot water growing up 🥺 On a brighter note... I think you've officially become a Pepper head 🌶🤩 Peace & love to you and your family ✌️💜

A lot of their songs can have a certain rap feeling, And that’s because the lead singer (Anthony Kiedis) started as a rapper, and then evolved to the singer the chilli peppers have, mixing singing and rapping a lot early on their career

They made this video from footage shot during the creating of the Blood, Sugar, Sex, Magik album when they rented that house, and the band and crew moved in together and stayed together for the entire duration of the recording process. You may or may not have noticed the clips of them receiving acupuncture treatments, getting their heads shaved, etc which was meant to be a bonding experience for them in order to make the best album possible. Really cool documentary if you can find it somewhere and check it out. Peace Out!
