Unpopular opinion here, I am a huge fan of john's style while he was with the chili's and I understand why a lot of people miss his sound in the band. But think about it the second time he left wasn't because of any problems with the band he had like the first time, he literally just felt it was time to move on. Which I think is very smart because he knew he'd had an amazing run with them already and bands generally should always be developing their sound and the introduction of a new guitarist really allowed for that. I know many people much prefer john's style and really don't appreciate josh enough, but tbh i'm glad that john left the band when he did, we have multiple amazing albums with him and now we have these new different sounding albums coming out with josh's style, that I REALLY like, I personally think his guitar style is really cool and his backing vocals are amazing too. This would never have happened with john still in the band, so I think it's a smart move on his part to allow the band to move into this new era. A band can't sound the same over multiple decades guys :p.

I've asked the same question to myself about a number of Chili's B-Sides - the fact that a lot of their B-Sides are every bit as good as the album songs consistently despite 3 different people on lead guitar just shows their class! Also gives a great reason to buy their singles because you're most often going to get 2 great songs for the price of 1.

To make money really. They choose the hits that tend to have more pop riffs so people can enjoy it easier. Getting signed to a label isn't a impressive thing anymore theyre just banks for musicians so they can make money off the success of the musician.

It's not like the band didn't have any say on what went on the album. Where would RHCP be without Rubin? Nowhere. He is their George Martin, pushed them to do things they never would've done. Rick Rubin pushed Anthony to record Under the Bridge. That decision forever changed this band. In the end this is their album, their songs. He didn't write them, he didn't in the end decide the tracklisting...the band did. Consider this too...with The Getaway, Danger Mouse came in and hated much of what they had written and told them to throw it away. I am all for a producer inspiring and pushing a band to improve but to tell a band like this that their music isn't good enough is sort of bullshit. RHCP have been doing this longer than DM has. DM also is no Rick Rubin either, a guy who has revived and invented so many careers. Look at what he did for Johnny Cash! We also do not know the band's feelings on songs like this, songs that got left off. Each band member has a say on what goes on to the album. They take votes. Some stuff has been left off that I am sure some band members wished went on the album. Some songs maybe they hated. The Greeting Song on BSSM...Anthony hates it but clearly the others liked it. Look at The Beatles.

chili peppers are my favourite band and artists of all time. I even have their logo tattooed on me but I'm With You wasn't a good album. I thought it was them learning to gel with Josh but I've realised it's the way Anthony sings on the album, and it's the same with this tune. The track is perfect... Ant's tone and melody has taken a dip. Dark Nacesseties seems to be a return to form for him, though.

Anthony Kiedis said it himself that he is not good at choosing which songs will make it to the album and that they are releasing so many b-sides to give other songs that didn't make it a chance. He was right, some of the I'm with You b-sides are much better than some of the songs in the album, especially The Sunset Sleeps and This is the Kitt. The same could be said about Million Miles of Water, a Stadium Arcadium b-side that is better than 3/4 of the songs in the album in my opinion.
