My guess is that the extreme heat created a layer of steam that insulate it somewhat. I could be wrong. Anyway, it surprised me too. I thought it would cool instantly.

Besides from everything their is another chemical reaction that took place in this video is that rusting it was fast when a metal is heat and cool at the same time . This phenomena can also be seen in gasoline vehicles exhaust pipes .

bad feet on that ice without cleats and it could be very bad day for you. I had the misfortune of having a Cadillacs heater core burst and dump 215 degree radiator fluid on my foot while I was driving. Thats a day I will never forget. That cylinder looks a few times hotter.

Steel and water can hold the same amount of heat by mass, but the steel is much denser, meaning that a smaller volume of steel can heat up a larger volume of water (almost 8 times the amount, actually).

For some reason I wonder how many stress fractures are in that lump of steel now. Water quenching rapidly cools metal but this rapid loss of heat can cause metal that had expanded to contract causing fractures. That’s why when quenching metal, oil is generally preferred because it doesn’t quench it quite as rapidly as water, reducing the risk of fractures in the metal.

Так гораздо быстрее, чем лунку ледобуром сверлить, правда и печь и болванку тяжелую тащить надо, и долго болванку нагревать. Так что ледобуром проще. Но если все это привезти в машине и разогреть, то можно сразу несколько лунок этой болванкой сделать, так что с какой то стороны этот способ и неплохой.

He is wearing light clothing so if you consider the fact when it's REALLY cold, you have more layers on than what he had on in the video, it probably wasn't that cold outside.

Water doesnt turn to ice immediately when it is below 0°C. It takes time like when you put water in the freezer to make ice you dont just put it in and as you shut the door it turns to ice, give it a solid hour or so to freeze @@lloydchristmas1086
