We use ZCam. Love it and troubleshoot with it. Never had a Red, but looking to test one out one day. Love the low light shooting and frame rate. Always looking to be better with what we have.

The biggest giveaway for me were the highlights of the fire. Although the z-cam might show a bit more detail, it looks very unnatural and digital. Im a big fan of z-cam an I never really noticed it myself, but side by side its pretty clear. RED just handled the highlights so gracefully.
@charlieparis34543 ай бұрын
Exactly how I could tell, it is a small difference but is it worth the extra money for the RED, especially now the RED just had a huge price drop. How do you think you would choose?
@Desolqte Жыл бұрын
I noticed the difference in the highlights is quite noticable when you pay attention to it, especially in those torch scenes!

Without a doubt! That’s where the RED DR kicks in😍

great video, i always find the Komodo , and even more when compared to a BM 6K Pro , the Komodo have a typical skin color, more red and contrasted skin color , the Z Cam and 6K Pro is more natural to me 😊

I actually smirked when I saw the switch, maybe I have a too trained eye but the roll off in the highlights was very harsh in the zcam so I found the foreground lighting quite bad when shot on the zcam. I kept hoping that the red was cam B and be surprised of the incredible image of the e6 but it sadly didn’t happen

I chose correctly :) It was the underpass shots that convinced me. Something about the sharpness of the motion in the shot at 3:02 is what convinced me. Perhaps it's because I own a Komodo so I am very used to how it feels. That or a lucky guess haha

The way you expose on the Z-cam s6 is perfect. How do you go about exposing your image for zlog2?
@RiverCody Жыл бұрын
So I use the Atomos Ninja as my monitor, recording to ProRes Raw. With the monitor I put in a lut to bring the image back to rec709, just for viewing purposes (the lut isn’t baked into the footage). From there I use the false color tool to dial in my exposure🤟🏼
@desmondmacnamara6068 Жыл бұрын
@@RiverCody I’ve been using a -1 monitoring lut with okay results but the highlight rolloff on your exposure looks pristine.

@andreigold161 Жыл бұрын
the blind test was a good start - ive also used both for a while and even side by side - had the F6 mind you so the F6 gave me more choices when it came to lenses. What for you was the main differennce and what quality features as you mentioned did you find in the Komodo most appealing?
@RiverCody Жыл бұрын
So what I really enjoy with the Red is the Dynamic Range, and the color science🙌🏼 I think it captures skin tones very well! Also, the global shutter helps a lot! If you watch some of the zcam footage that is fast paced, you’ll notice some rolling shutter issues. However, when in a staged environment… VERY competitive🙌🏼

I know everything :) I also own the Komodo and the S6. While the images were to all incense and porcupines much the same, the tracking shot of the skateboarder was the giveaway for me. You just can’t miss the global shutter of the Komodo, and as good as the S6’s image is, it doesn’t move with the finesse of the Komodo. Beyond the sensor, as you know, the other major advantage of the Komodo is REDCode RAW. That beautiful 16bit raw codec that you can stretch like pizza dough in post is another compelling advantage of the Komodo. I don’t even know if Z Raw is still a thing (My NLE doesn’t think so) and as good as its ProRes codecs are, they are no match for Red Raw. The other advantage of the Komodo is its industry standard workflow, especially if you get hired as a DP. Tell a client (or their editor/post production supervisor) you’ll be handing off RED RAW to them and they want to marry you. Tell them you have ProRes files from the S6, they’re not as keen, and then tell them the ProRes files are in Z-Log and they don’t want to date you at all. Then there’s the ease of grading within RED’s IPP2 color space which is a lot more straightforward compared to the S6. Color Space Transform in Resolve, for example, will handle the Rec709 conversation in just a couple of clicks and without LUTs too. And if that’s not enough, there’s the bigger and more useable LCD panel, the traffic light exposure system, the advantage of ISO being only metadata, SDI output, 2 stops more dynamic range (at least officially), and RED Control - arguably the best remote camera app there is. One thing the S6 has going for it is its price. Rigged, my Komodo cost me over $10k. My S6 was about half that - and for that price, it does a great job, and as you’ve demonstrated in this video, one way or the other, it can produce images that generally hold up against the Komodo… …but that global shutter, REDCode Raw, IPP2… ;-)

Why Not Compare the ZCAM with Global Shutter Vs the Komodo? I think that would be a fair assessment... The Color Science is more captivating on the ZCAM, but thats just my opinion...
