Looks like a place I'd love to spend time at. Thanks for sharing.

Stumbled across your post, planning to hit red in late January. Actually canceled a Jax trip (have been many times) to try something new, Red. Your review of both the mtn and the surrounding area was exceptionally helpful. Really appreciated. Bummer about the low speed chairs but like most resorts that will change over time. Great review.

Terrific! One of my first reviews. It is a special place. There's also a lot of back country in the area. This is definitely a resort many have strong feelings for. I hope to do a review for Jax this winter. I'm from Schweitzer and that's likely the future for Red.

@bluebirdski I've skied a lot of places in the US, mostly ikon resorts. Pretty good tele skier and looking fwd to reds glades assuming snows good. Jax is Gr8 but man it gets busy. So much so that ikon holders need to make a reservation. I loath the tram and its an hour wait on busy days. Red seems really chill like Jax 30yrs ago.

There is a lot I don't know about you but I'm guessing you'd rate Whistler higher than Red. Thanks, we hope everyone goes there, especially those who value the resort more than skiing.

@@melcookehome haven't been there in 15 years, but heard it is getting crazy. I'd love Red more if it had high speed chairs. My highest rated resorts are Copper and Sun Valley. Notice people are very loyal to Red. I get why. In Canada, Revelstoke is my favorite.

Very informative. Have you done Kicking Horse yet?

I'd love too, but I'm focusing on iKon pass resorts this year. Drove by Golden twice, and "kicked myself" for not going. A friend always talks it up... Have you been or are you a fan?

@@bluebirdski Oh, I didn’t realize that it wasn’t an iKon pass resort. I’ve never been to Kicking Horse, but another vlogger that I follow just posted his white knuckle experience there. It’s gnarly!

long drive from Kelowna, what else to ski in the area..Whitewater? Is it worth the drive ?

Yeah, Whitewater is near Nelson. 49 degrees North is a smaller resort in Washington state.

I enjoy Panorama and Revelstoke more, but if you want a gorgeous place and mix in a couple nights in Nelson it is worth the trip.

Whitewater IS NOT in Washington State. It's about an hour east of Red and is so worth the drive. Terrain wise, it's a lot like Red, smaller and maybe not quite as steep, but the tree skiing is unbeatable and they get about 40 feet of snow a season! If you think about it, for a 120 day season (average) that's 1 foot every 3 days! Your chances of a powder day are pretty good.

The drive is dangerous from grand forks to Rossland is very Icy and often thick fog. Towns full of Karen’s very Narcissistic Clique

Which run/chair is the best for tree skiing/snowboarding in Red mountain?
@bluebirdski
@bluebirdski 11 ай бұрын
Anything off the mother load chair. You'll see all the single and double black diamond runs. They are long and with a lot of chutes and trees.

@@jaykuang2264 I love the place. It has a small town feel and enough going on. My only complaint is there's no high speed lifts.
@KZ-yu4jz

@@jaykuang2264 Went there a couple weeks ago. Rain in early Feb.. Problem is the low elevation. At least at Whistler you get snow in the Alpine, you cant escape the rain at Red or Whitewater. The lifts at Red were also the most uncomfortable I think I have been on at a resort (slow, poor padding and no foot rest). I would not talk so poorly about lifts, but it wasnt just the speed of the chair. It was a terrible experience, however the terrain looked great if you like blacks and double blacks and they get some snow. Still saw bald spots on the groomers... Burger and poutine were great though :)

High speed chairs are not necessary if a resort doesn't get crowds...unless you are an entitled tourist. Ski Canada magazine once called Red "The best tree skiing in Canada'". Did this video creator even ski Red mountain?
@bluebirdski
@bluebirdski Жыл бұрын
I skied there a few times. My home resort is Schweitzer (couple hours away). Maybe I am spoiled, but high speed quads are a big plus for me.
@danieltaylor3396

@@bluebirdski Lift layout is far more important than fixed grip or detachable. Best example is Revy where they spent big $ on all lifts being high speed detachable but the lift system is flawed due to not accounting for extreme low base elevation. They haven't corrected this but instead continue to spend $ on high speed lifts.
