Ehhh I’m partial to it but at the end of the day I think it just doesn’t correlate to real life enough because it is so weightless and weird feeling which makes it even more infuriating because it’s uncontrollable at points Like the fact you have to drag your aim to the edge of your screen to turn is the real problem and there’s really no way to fix this in the game. Arma tried to do something about this where you would bind a button to turn your body without having to do this but it just horrible. You simply can’t overcome this limitation with a mouse and keyboard that feels as natural as real life

This game is haunting. When I learned of this game from some KZbin recommendation of the campaign waaaay back, it was basically my first ever exposure to the Eastern Front. Having only ever played CoD 2 Big Red One, COD 3, Medal of Honor, and such as a child, I literally had not known the Soviet Union was a thing or their role in the war until that point. Years later when I first actually played RO2, I remember playing the 2nd campaign mission and listening in horror as one of the very long death voicelines played as I hid in a corner, of some poor Soviet sop I shot gurgling his lifeblood out. It just would not end. Cue a trip down the Eastern Front rabbit hole from obligatory curiosity. Too bad I missed the heyday of RO2, I love the freefloating aim system and the atmosphere and the viciousness of the fighting and tanking and just everything. I have yet to play anything that can quite capture my consciousness the way RO2's Stalingrad does. Paradoxically, its also one of the FPS's im better at. Mkb 42h is busted and artillery is gay though. I swear to god it homes in on you.

Let me just take a moment to emphasize MANUAL BOLTING specifically, as such an important feature for immersion that a lot of current tactical shooter games lack. It actually gives you the feeling of firing a weapon that is manually cycled and not semi-auto: usually in an FPS game, a pump shotgun pumps automatically each time you fire, making it feel (from a gameplay/control standpoint, not visually) just like a semi-auto shotgun, only with a longer animation that plays between shots. Frankly, I wish more games did it, not just multiplayer tactical shooters: Red Dead Redemption 2 did it with their single/pump/lever/bolt action guns, and it greatly contributed to immersion in that game's setting, for me. Buying a magazine fed (semi)automatic pistol actually felt like a step into the future because of it, rather than a sidegrade like pistol vs single action revolver feels in most games. And don't even get me started on the Auto 5...
@Tantwo3 ай бұрын
Honestly how I look at manual bolting is how my dad prefers manual cars, he feels like he has greater control and it feels more satisfying

The game was BRUTAL. I remeber in a match , when I was a Russian commander in a infantery map. We were losing ground quickly until I order the whole team to be on the edges of the capture zone. I waited until the Germans were concentrated on point Delta. When the Germans were close to capture the point , I radio for Katushas artillery. The enemy team suffered casualties , After that , I order the team to retake all the ground . We won the match because the Germans were outnumered and could not win the match.

One detail I really like is how when you use a scoped rifle, not only are the lens always visible, but it only zooms inside the scope. Your "peripheral" vision stays unzoomed. 99% of FPS games couldn't care less about that and they just zoom in the entire screen when you aim down sights
@fishyfish60508 ай бұрын
I wish there were more games similar to ro2 when it comes to its depressing world and general chaos in multiplayer. I also feel this is also the most realistic eastern front game that i have played in a way as both the Russians and Germans utter absolute hatred towards eachother which i feel is in a way extremely forgotten as people dont know how horrible the conditions on the eastern front were or how much both sides hated eachother. I really like how the devs put alot of effort into research It actually feels like you are fighting for your life in this game wether its attacking an objective or defending the objective. The fact that your character also screams in pain when they die or get hit adds to it even more

I always loved the aiming and gun handling in this game. You build up enough muscle memory after around 10 hours that it feels very natural (not easier, but more organic). The atmosphere is incredible. I put a few hundred hours into the game when it came out, and I kind of regret that I never got into the tank crew part of the game (didn't want to take spots away from more experienced tankers who were really into that stuff).

I've always had set the voicelines for english in my team and native for the enemy team. This builds the immersion as I'm more fluent with english and feel those english speakers are "my guys" and the other, unfamiliar language, is the enemy. The other thing building the immersion was the slow death mechanics were you coudln't help yourself with bandage and slipped slowly into darkness BUT still could shot your gun. Unless someone finished you off. Remember kids - it's better to put an extra bullet into your enemy because someone trying to survive the Stalingrad Kessel won't go down without a fight. Absolute chaos. Another time is just banzai charging and flamethrowers in Rising Storm. 3:35 also shame you didn't like the boxed aiming system. It could be that i was already used to it because of arma 2 and call of duty 4 on Wii. It didn't feel like I was shooting bullets from my eye and gives the illusion that the shots are coming from the gun, instead of center screen. Also just wanna put it out there: CoD WaW and Red Orchestra 2/RS just complements each other so well. I really wished we had a campaign for Rising Storm.

I love box aim ! It add a ton of immersion! Make you fell you are the actual soldier, instead of the arcade point and clic !

I loved playing RO! An updated version of this game would be very welcome! it would probably be much better than HLL or Squad44

That's nice to see :) Rising Storm 2 turned off suppression and stopped 7.62mm from one hit killing.
