It's about not falling victim to the world and other material things. We as Christians are promised eternal life in heaven, yet we are just as human as anyone else. That being said, we give in to all the worldly things that truly don't matter. RED is singing about turning away from that and realizing there are better things to be found when we follow God. This is personally one of my favorites on this album :)

@UnbornTurd8 жыл бұрын
I agree :D The faults in the individuals who set other values above God. It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than a rich person can go through the gates of Heaven. Something like that lol Sorry for my going on lol RED sings what I feel. Pieces, So Far Away, Breathe, etc etc etc. And as I write this my heart has softened to allow God to come in again. Please pray that I remember to act as Jesus would and show love. I tend to have that pesky "I got my feelings hurt" junk and then react.

You pretend what you say you feel You pretend that you're something special All the lies that you hide behind I see right through you, see right through you Paint it on, cover every inch Any flaw will expose your weakness I'm immune to your fantasy I won't become you, won't become you.. You want a perfect, PERFECT LIFE Nothing wrong, nothing real inside All I see is a perfect lie. I don't want your perfect life [x2] So, keep your dream with no consequence You'd damage me just to feed your senses All you fake for reality I see right through you, see right through you Take your pride, take your vanity Can't you see that your ego's empty? I will turn, I will walk away I won't become you, won't become you.. You want a perfect, PERFECT LIFE Nothing wrong, nothing real inside All I see is a perfect lie I don't want your perfect life [x3] My eyes are wide open.. I see the enemy, the hypocrisy Your cover is fading Secrets pouring out, castles falling down There's nothing to hide behind I know who I am inside I'm perfectly broken.. You want a perfect, PERFECT LIFE Nothing wrong, nothing real inside All I see is an empty lie I don't want your PERFECT LIFE [x4] The perfect life!

I don't just view this video or listen to this phenomenal song as us Christians versus the world. I also listen to this song and think of all of the wolves in sheep's clothing from with inside of the churches....in other words, modern day Pharisees and Saduccees hiding behind the veil of a fake smile, but are inwardly ravening wolves.

I'm pretty sure the song is about not wanting what the world projects to us as the "perfect life." All the things the world tells us we need (drugs, money, etc,) pale in comparison to the truly satisfied lifestyle a true Christian lives. The things the world offers take and take and never give back, but living for Christ always proves much more satisfactory, in the depths of our souls, permanently. That's what I believe this song to be about.

These comments..... Th word of God is still the word of God, Whether you read it in King James version, NLT, or LEB. What I am trying to say is that RED gave each song a meaning and that is the meaning we should get from it. But there is those out there who try to replace them. I am glad that RED is preaching to non-believers whether they want to believe it or not. When the word of God through RED reaches you it smacks you hard. This song reminds me of this game called " The Path ". In this game, you have two options : following the path to make sure that you arrive at your grandma's house ( the end of the path, representation of death ) without any troubles or leaving the path and going into the forest. Everything is very symbolical, and the game is far from being just that, but to resume it, following the path until its end is a representation of a life where nothing bad happens to you, while going into the forest means making experiences. In my opinion, it is very similar to this song.

An other meaning that could fit this song is that we all try to have a perfect life. In a way of looking perfect, having the perfect things. We want to show the world how perfect we and our lives are, while it is an "empty lie".
