These movies are time machines of sociology. I was very young a few years after this movie was released, but I recall watching it on black and white tv as a young boy. Notice at the beginning of the movie, everyone introduces each other as "how do you do"? Not, how are you? Not, how's it been? Not, how's it going? What was the common expression in 1952? How about, "how do you do"? These movies are history lessons for how we spoke back in the day. Priceless, IMHO. When people hundreds of years from now want a history lesson on how people spoke during a certain period, they will simply go to a digital version of whatever technology is in place at the time to learn how we spoke, acted and lived. We can't say that so well for history over 150 years ago unless we resort to books, papers, and texts.

Really, on top of everything else plus his Misogynistic leanings i think the question of his sociopathy is a legitimate one. Some too proud to admit misjudgment of him and those who's views mesh with his bias toward those damn people who's skin tone he seems to envy while he denigrates their origin and circumstance. Freedom? Freedom of religion from the oppression of Soviet police and a totalitarian government? Vaguely I guess, but most people recognize that violence and oppression are bad things (until reproductive rights or sexual self-determination are suggested). Kindness? That Chris and his wife were kind to the mad scientist? It served no purpose and they tried to kill him. Honesty? In that Chris wanted to share the messages? He also wanted to obscure the one he didn't like. This was all just pandering to capitalist christian superiority in the Cold War era. A fun, funny, and interesting time capsule of prejudices but not much more.

I saw this movie as a young kid in the 60's and find it as captivating now as I did then but on an even deeper level. This time I noticed the not so subtle commentary on man's unending lust for the almighty dollar. When Mars claims to be able to feed 1,000 people per year on an acre of land, mankind doesn't see the opportunity to end world hunger, but the loss of income to farmers and ranchers; when Mars claims to have abandoned the use of coal and oil for over 300 years, mankind does not see the opportunity for a clean environment, but instead sees the loss of income for the energy sector. When will we realize that money isn't everything and perhaps, just maybe, that it IS the root of all evil? With every advance humans have made, the loss or diminished use of one sector of the economy has always been replaced by a greater need in the new sector. "Fear thee not change, for with change shall come new opportunities."-quote by me, I just said that, lol. Thanks for posting this classic film!

Wow! Great surprise ending. So glad I watched it. Delightful film! Thinking about this film while driving today, I realized how prescient it really was. Think about it...

I just watched this movie. I didn't search for it, it just came up on my page. I never saw it before. I enjoyed it. I recognized a few of the actors, especially the one that played the president. Thanks!

Being a Bible Thumper Catholic, this was a great movie. The Spiritual message of Peace on Earth, Good Will to all man, is a key teaching in the Holy Word. We need more of this in this evil world. Amen, and amen.

It’s a key message to humanists too, we don’t need any deity to impress, we do it because it’s right.

@goinghomesomeday1 Thank you satan's minion for that ignorant comment. 1st amendment protected for both of us. God the Holy Father bless this sinner. Amen.

@goinghomesomeday1 So true, so true. but it is in His time, not man's time. And satan is pulling the control puppet strings like a marionette of the ones that is in his control, saying God The True One God, is not real. Have a great day, stay safe, keep your masks on for health and safety.

Im a pagan but I do love the message of this movie. If your Bible makes you want to be a better human being then go for it. The fact that there are thousands of religions in the world tells me one thing only, we want to make this world a better place for our children only thing that makes us different are geographical borders and our differences in cultural heritage. At the end of the day we are all brothers and sisters. Wish you and your loved ones peaceful and healthy lives God bless ✌🏻🌍🌎🌏

The best thing about old sci-fi movies is seeing there Perception of advanced technology, can’t help but wonder about our current misperception of technology that will be made appeared with sufficient amount of time and hindsight.

This wasn’t at all what I expected. I thought it was going to be a campy, B grade 50’s sci-fi (which I secretly love) but it was much better that that. The first give away is in the opening credits where it states the screenplay was adapted from a play - what? This is a good movie with an original plot that as far as I am aware, has never been re-done most likely because of the subject. The ending has a nice twist as well. By the way, the “valve” they speak of is the European term for a Vacuum tube, the forerunner of the transistor. In 1952, all radios and TV’s used vacuum tubes.

I didn't realize Peter was that old, I was born in 51 and he must have been 20-25 years old already. We all remember him from Mission Impossible in about 1965-66 or so as Mr Phelps. TV's better programs then

Those parents were in it together. Selfless sacrifice even knowing they were leaving kids behind 😥.
