SPOILERS: For me, I feel like Maven was wayyy too perfect. It felt very forced and almost.. I don't know the word. BUT I had a feeling that I should be very cautious of him. The way Julian said "He's his mother's son" printed into my brain. and the whole "Anyone can turn on anyone" theory was also a sign. Just the entire plot twist in this book was a big shocker, but I felt like I saw it coming. SHADE ON THE OTHER HAND. I DID NOT SEE IT. AND I M HAPPY. AND I CRIED. AND IM SO HAPPY KILORN AND FARLEY ARE ALIVE. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH. I LOVE CAL. ALWAYS LOVED CAL. Queen Elara can go die.

+Diced Pears I'm with you, except I dislike Cal so much. He's just described so perfect, yet he just doesn't care about Mare getting killed. He would literally have let it happen, if there wasn't the thing with Maven. The dude would have let those two die, because what? They didn't even hurt anyone who didn't try to hurt them, they just gave informations to some rebels. If Cal at any point cared for Mare, he wouldn't have let her die like that. Not even though she betrayed him. But yeah I see where this is going. Victoria sure has plans for them, sadly. I don't think it should ever be forgotten, that someone wanted you to get killed painfully and in such a humiliating way.

When it said that they would kill Maven, I was like..."Who is this...and why?" I meant Maven and thought, "Why are you going to kill this guy? He seems alright." And then the betrayal..."Ohhhhhhh...now I get it... "WHAT THE HECK MAN! THEY ALL TRUSTED YOU! YOU SON OF A !" Excuse my almost french. Spoiler: The first 100 pages I was convinced that cal and mere were going to become something and Victoria totally threw me off the whole entire book. I was like, there is no way cal and mere will be a thing and I was so sad. I finally got used to the idea and was ok with mere and maven. THEN Once Maven said that Cal was in love with mere, I literally lost it cause it came outta no where for me. I felt attacked by Victoria and myself that I had been tricked. I felt torn because I had ALREADY gotten used to maven like what do I do, who do I like now? am I rooting for cal or maven?¿ [But this had been before mavens betrayal. :))) ] (I finished this book like four hours ago and I still hold anger towards maven)

I loved how aveyard takes cal, who sees perfect in the beginning, and makes him a bit of turd since he is deep down all for the silvers. I also LOVE how mare is upfront about her emotions. It's so great to read about a more independent and confident protagonist.

Maven betrayal- At the beginning of the book, I was Like: HE CAN'T BE TRUSTED. I started to trust him and like him a lot but my guard was not completely down. So I saw it coming but not completely. I thought it would have happened earlier On so just as I was letting my guard down- BAM. CAL. DID NOT SEE HIM AS A PRINCE. I SHOULD HAVE. I think Julian was more the Cinna character and your words on "If we didn't see it, it didn't happen" are wise and true. I don't think he's dead, I think he'll end up joining The Scarlet Guard for protection since Maven will be after him. Damn. I love a good villain and Victoria does a FEW pretty well--- Queen Elara and Maven being main. Loved Red Queen and can't wait for the sequel. Looking for more character development on Shade. Glad to have subbed to you yesterday. See you soon!

OK so... i just read Red Queen. It was just supposed to me a school reading book, but whyyyyy did Lucas have to die. Now I'm not much of a reader and honestly i think this is the first book i sat down and read in 2 day 3 hours and 47 seconds ( including sleep time) Victoria Aveyard really knows how to pull you into the book and make you feel like Mare's shadow as if you are like a silent side kick. Maven killed me! My mom thought I was about to cry tonight because of Maven's betrayal. Shade, well i really didn't know if he was alive of dead, but that scene in the cage at the end of the book when Mare and Cal are going to "die" i thought Shade was going to be in the corner of the room, and let Mare and Cal free. I have so much to say I might just make a video.

the betrayal at the end wasn't a surprise just a confirmation, Mare doesn't have much sense of people and she gets suspicious of people she shouldn't be suspicious and the ones that are obviously suspicious she ignores which essentially causes things to blow up her face. When I started this book, I really am excited because 'many' said that it was good. I'm not disappointed at all because it's just thrilling and exciting plot twists happening. Apparently, when I was at the 50 page mark, it was just like; " yeah i'm going to sleep now". The next day what happened was just a book in front of my face the whole period and it was really distinctive. The characters, i fell in love with 'em. At first I found this book very hard to get in to because it was very similar to the Selection, but as I continued to read it I got more and more drawn into this world! I was so fascinated by all of the training scenes where we got a glimpse at the abilities of both the Silvers and Mare. I did see the betrayal coming, right from the start I didn't trust Maven, but as the book continued he became more genuine and he gained my trust. What put me on edge was Julian's attitudes towards Maven because I trust Julian's judgement! When the betrayal actually happened I was not completely surprised, but I was super sad because by that point I trusted Maven and he just went ahead and tore my heart in half! I cannot wait for book two!!

NO WAY" but then I was like "hell, the book is almost done. if hes going to betray mare, he wouldve one it already" but nope. at the very beginning when the royal family was first being introduced, my prediction was that maven and his mother were going to kill Cal. nope to that too xD. i suspected shade would come back but was hoping he wouldnt because his death was a real catalyst, you know. it was so significant politically and drove the plot so much. so the fact that it wasn't real kinda bums me out and lessens everything they fought for a bit (in my eyes). i absolutely loved the book and cannot wait to get started on glass sword. gonna be like x-men, looking for the special Reds.

I just finished this book. I LOVE IT!!! I don't understand why people hate it so much. The end slowly killed me, though.

This book surprised me in the best way. I am mind blown at all the plot twist and death. I just finished it at 5:00am and now I can't sleep. You seriously can't trust anyone in this book. Now once I get a grasp on reality, I'll be jumping into "We should All Hang Out Sometimes" which is a pretty lighthearted read which I need lol

I am so excited to book Number 2, and yeah i was shocked about the betrayals too! I feel the same way, how ever I would love to see the characters of Cal and Mare to develop more, and their relationship to grow.

I just finished reading this book and enjoyed watching your thoughts about it! I was also very confused on the whole war thing going on. I wish there was more background on that, but maybe we will get that in future books in the series? I was kind of surprised when Maven betrayed Mare, however I always remembered one line in the beginning of the book that was something like "Maven looked at me (Mare) like I was a nothing piece of dirt". He held distain and disgust from the beginning and then masked it reeeaally well. I know!!!! I was so sad when Lucas died too. I am now prepared for the author to kill off other loved characters :( I am halfway through Glass Sword and am sooo excited to continue! :D

I just finished this book this afternoon and I absolutely adored it! I personally got sucked in right away and the character development was beautiful! There were also so many times that I had to write down quotes bc the writing was just so beautiful. And the plot twists were awesome!
