The memorable quotes, the character work, the descriptions that put you right beside the characters in situations no one in their right mind would ever want to be in... Pierce Brown really is a master of his craft. Red Rising is my all time favourite series, and I honestly believe anyone who can stomach it will enjoy it. I have no plans to stop singing praises for this series any time soon. Yet another great video! I'm really enjoying watching this channel grow.

Excellent analysis! RR is a tremendous series. World building, characters, and prose are top notch. And honestly, each new book is better than the last; Light Bringer is a 10/10. Brown is simply an incredible writer.

I unfortunately know what a blood eagle is because over a decade ago I wasted my money on Tom Knox's book _The Genesis Secret._ I do not recommend that less than mediocre Dan-Brown-knock-off, but it had a character from Finland, my home country, whose name is not Finnish and who tells a joke that captures the essence of Finnishness quite well. I shall tell it to you now, in my own words, for no apparent reason: A Finn and a Swede decided to drink some alcohol. They emptied a cup after another, and hours passed in silence. They drank and did not say a word. Then the Swede raised his glass and said: 'Skål!' The Finn became angry and huffed: 'Did we come here to talk or to drink?'

Finding an actual MASH fan 😅 that was usually when I knew it was bedtime. I've tried Red Rising bc I think the concept is fascinating. But it leans too warfare heavy for me, when I prefer the political scheming more.

I know this is an older video but I’m about 100 pages in and just cannot get into this book. I wasn’t really aware that this was/is more a YA series. It has an interesting premise and ideas that I like but the writing is so stale. It feels worse than harry potter in terms of its simplicity. Literally within the pages I’ve read I feel like it’s just handing me the premise without any level of subtlety. Its allegories are comically obvious. The prose of the writing hasn’t done anything to impress me, as someone who likes to highlight passages that are beautiful or though provoking, I haven’t highlighted a single thing with the first parts of this book. Darrow being thrust into this word and basically being told you need to become the most capable and important person in the world, when 5 minutes ago he didn’t even know it existed at all, but here’s some surgery and training over the course and 10 pages and you’re ready, and he accepts it like ok cool, I’m mad I was a slave so I’ll do it. Idk maybe it gets better but unlike Harry Potter or dune he’s not a chosen one. He literally is created to fake it til you make it and something about that, again so far, feel inauthentic and weird. Going to try and finish the first book at least but came here looking for some reasoning as to why these book are so popular.

"They dont want sheep, they want wolfs". Wow i still have chills... As a spaniard whose parents grew up in a facist country, i think your explanation is one of the best i've ever seen. I really really love this channel. You are very funny, not condescending at all, and very intelligent. Keep up the great work!! 😊
@cronkthebookguy11 ай бұрын
Wow! I cannot imagine what that was like for your parents! I'm glad my explanation has worked so well for you. I think all the elements of fascism exist right now in most countries. It just takes one lunatic to arrange them in the right order for the process to start all over again. People need to know what to look for. Thank you so much for cheering me on, my friend! Very appreciated. ❤

I just found your channel not that long ago, and I've been binging your videos on the series I'm interested in. Basically, just commenting to say that you are extraordinary at compiling and delivering summaries. Who needs Goodreads when you post a video about a book or series?? Absolutely amazing work -- also doesn't hurt that you have a fantastic speaking voice.

I even bought a kindle to read lightbringer because it would arrive pretty late here. And now for a little SPOILER... I read Book 1 last year and DNFed the series. I thought Book 1 was ok but there was this YAish feel to the character writing and my general excitement was down after finishing it and wasn't immediately ready for Book 2, but coming across this video, I might pick up Book 2. After Red Rising, I started The Expanse series and oh man that's definitely my kinda of stuff, it was so good but I'll probably give red Rising another chance
@cronkthebookguy7 ай бұрын
Oh yeah, you can't go wrong with Expanse! Yeah book1 red rising has a lot of YA vibes. Don't worry, if that's not your thing, the rest of the series is much more adult. 👌

I really struggled with the first book in terms of the sexist language and tropes used. Eo being refrigerated, language like ‘stop crying like a girl’ used over and over. Women who are meant to be strong warriors becoming damsels in distress…i keep trying to read but then get put off by this.

red rising is a rough read for me. I feel like I would have loved it in middle school but as an adult its cringe as hell. So much plot armor and darrow can do anything and everything and outwit everyone who have been golds and privy to the benefits their entire lives with only with just months of training. The way he talks too "helldivers are fast, im faster" "they think to outwit me, they wont" its corny as hell
