in 1967 I lived in Maumee on Parkway Drive South and two doors down lived John Pocisk and his sax. In life's turn-about, his sister Janice went to school with my wife, also Janice, in Rossford, Ohio. Anyway, what sweet memories I have of those mild summer evenings when the Hurricanes practiced in their driveway so the neighborhood could partake. Red River Rock and Telstar are forevermore a pleasant childhood remembrance. John was a good guy. RIP John.

So cool...As a Wood county river rat from the right side of the river 😜, I've been interested in this somewhat forgotten period of Rock for a long time and take pride in it's Toledo connection. Those must be great memories. Best wishes to you and yours.

I noticed a few comments about how short that Mamie is visible during this scene and that it indicated that she likely wasn't even present during the scene and just cut in later. That is what I thought at first, but in viewing a different clip of a different scene using this same set (where Mamie sings and dances with this group), I was able to determine that it is, in fact, Mamie who is sitting on the jukebox in the rolled up jeans to the left of Lori Nelson (blonde dancer) right at the start of the clip. So, she is there during the filming of this scene.

Dance scene from Untamed Youth. Around :55 into the video you can see Gil Brady and his wife on the right. They were SoCal jitterbug champs through the 40s and 50s. He is also the nerdy guy in the stupid hat and stupid glasses doing the goofy dancing sprinkled throughout the video. You can see him in the nerd character with his wife around 1:23. He's actually the best dancer on the set by a country mile.

I wonder how many people know that this tune is actually 'The green grassy slopes of the Boyne', an Ulster Loyalist song celebrating the victory of King William of Orange over the Jacobite army at the battle of the Boyne (Ireland) in 1690..,... which means it has all sorts of nasty connotations to do with the troubles in Ireland, which I won't go into because trying to explain the troubles has defeated much better minds than my own. The story is that there have only ever been three people who ever understood the Irish problem. One went mad, the second died and the third was William Ewart Gladstone (British Prime Minister during the Victorian era) and nobody else could understand anything he said. The tune has been used for many songs, including Red River Valley, and Red River Rock is actually derived from that.

Interesting, thank you. I enjoy knowing how, where and when musical pieces originated as much as the music itself.

Connecting the dots, is this ulster song also the foundation for 'My Bonnie is over the ocean'?, if so, it also has a connection to the Fab Four..
