Exactly! I love Red Sonja, Chainmail Bikini and all. Contrary to popular opinion, there are reasons for it. It aids in agility, acts as a distraction, and she specifically requested it herself when receiving her blessing from that Goddess, so that everyone she battles will know she’s a woman. A positive, personal expression of her femininity and an illustration of how formidable she is to be able to fight effectively wearing so little armour. They are undoubtably going to ruin it. I love Bad Girl comics as a whole like Warrior Nun Areala (Hate that insulting wokeflix adaption), Hack/Slash, Witchblade, Lady Death, Darkchylde, Vampirella, Zenescope’s Grimm Fairy Tales, Sheena, and Jungle Fantasy. It’s a disappointment that well written franchises & their fans never get the respect they deserve nowadays. I’m sick and tired of empty megalomanic statement after statement, the constant flood of tyrannical toxicity, and simply, the complete and utter lack of anything genuinely good. If it is, it’s an exception that proves the moronic rule of today’s amorality. I just want something that’s interesting, entertaining, and in some way fun. I miss the days when making a good story was the goal. No matter how much money they keep losing, they keep doubling down. They keep trying to appeal to a niche that doesn’t support them and constantly antagonizes people. It’s ridiculous.

@@johnathangrey2003 I'm hearing there's a Darkchylde movie in the works, but no date on whether it will still be made, or when it will be available. Personally, I'd like to see a Witchblade movie, since we got a TV series originally, which told me enough to get me hooked on the character, even if the series was axed WAY before its time. I've also followed the comics on and off, and I'd love to see The Darkness also getting some love as well as a movie, considering the unique curse that wielders of The Darkness have, and the shared history that both Witchblade and The Darkness have with each other. It could be the next Buffy/Angel type crossover event, but I doubt anyone these days could do it justice. For it to be anything remotely decent, you'd have to get someone like Robert Rodriguez or Guillermo Del Toro to do it justice on the big screen. I'd love to see what an indie film crew and unknown acting talent could do with it, though, especially in web series format. If we can get anything close to the modern-world Mortal Kombat web series, but just in other properties, man, just think about the awesome films and series we can possibly get. :/
@johnathangrey20033 жыл бұрын
@Marinus van Zyl Yeah there’s been rumours about Darkchylde for years. As far as I’m aware, the last official progress was 11 years ago in 2010 when they released test footage, and announced John Carpenter would be directing the movie that’d hopefully be released in the following year. m.kzbin.info/www/bejne/jWS9qXusnLuLr5o Which sadly didn’t happen, and nothing has happened since. I don’t trust anyone these days to do the comics justice either, or anything for that matter. Agreed on the Witchblade show getting axed before it’s time and the Darkness deserving some love. You’re right about the unique curse & connection the two have, with the Darkness the father and the Angelus the mother of the Witchblade. But, instead of live action, I’d personally prefer a series of r-rated animated shows and movies close to the original original source material with the same beautiful art style. Animation has a more feasible transfer of designs, and there’s a greater potential for what’s physically possible. That way we could have a situation like Buffy/Angel where there’s a shared universe of Witchblade, Darkness, Angelus, Magdalena, Darkchylde, Lady Death, Vampirella, Red Sonja, Tomb Raider, and everything else all crossing over with each other. Exactly like their comics. That all being said, I love seeing passionate & creative indie crews & unknown actors, especially in a web series format. I haven’t seen Mortal Kombat, but I really enjoy the work from Bat In The Sun. Particularly, their Joker & Harley Quinn vs Deadpool & Domino episode of Super Power Beatdown and their recent short film Batman: Dying is Easy. Amy Johnston as Harley Quinn and Kevin Porter as Batman are phenomenal. m.kzbin.info/www/bejne/aKPYpZJjjsx9j9k m.kzbin.info/www/bejne/gWHbkIygoMx5oMU It’d be incredible if we could see more of that in other properties.

I'm a Red Sonja fan since I first read Conan comics when I was a child. I collected almost all of Red Sonja comics. With saying that, honestly I don't want today's woke Hollywood make an adaptation of it. I'm not expecting her to appear in her classic chain mail bikini in a movie. Because that classic look is absurd even by comic standarts. I'm not against a more appropriate female armor for Red Sonja, maybe like Wonder Woman or Xena. But we all know that today's producers, writers, directors will woke the shit outta the concept by turning her a man hater.
@GutsofEclipse3 жыл бұрын
Absurd by what standard? Appropriate for what? We're not talking about a business meeting here. It's a high fantasy story that plays on sex appeal. So long as you continue to agree to their ridiculous premises, you're also continuing to neuter any claims that their points are invalid. We've seen that the left views compromise as a signal to demand more and move the next compromise further left, thereby constantly moving the overton window leftward. There's no appeasing them. People need to just flat out tell them that they're not making decisions based on the dishonest, bigoted, malicious power games of a bunch of cultural Marxists. If they don't like it, they can go scream to themselves somewhere out of earshot of the office. Literally the only way to deal with them is to tell them "no".
@whitewalker98623 жыл бұрын
@@GutsofEclipse Dude, I don't give a shit about woke premises. I'm talking about armor being realistic. Even by high fantasy standarts, a warrior only wearing loin clothing like Conan or chainmail bikini that's useless like Red Sonja is absurd. In Robert E. Howard's original books Conan wears any armor he can find at the situation. Marvel Comics illustrators and then Arnold's movie made his almost naked look which turned people's typical Conan image now. Also at Red Sonja's first comics appearance she was wearing a full chainmail shirt, later illustrators changed into a bikini because of sex appeal. In comics you can get away with that, looks great and sexy but still absurd. But in a movie even if it's high fantasy you need a more realistic look for a warrior woman going into a combat and chainmail bikini would look hilarious. Maybe there can be a scene that takes a nod to her comics look, but a full movie where Red Sonja wandering around like that won't work. I'm not saying to dress Red Sonja in a full plate armor for the movie. That's why Wonder Woman's movie armor and Xena's armor comes to my mind, they look like Amazonian and still feminine.
@sigmacademy3 жыл бұрын
@@whitewalker9862 Speaking of skimpy outfits, what would be your take on Vampirella, or Elvira, for that matter? ;) For me, Xena's armor is some of the most realistic female sword and sorcery armor I've seen in cinematic form. It's a practical trade-off of weight vs defense, as in it can protect her from receiving mostly flesh wounds, but it still provides her with enough flexibility and agility to perform moves that a more heavily armored opponent obviously couldn't (like flips). There are "some" issues with the armor, since it doesn't really cover areas like the neck or other parts of the body (the parts that have exposed skin), so in that regard, I would say it should have been combined with the armor of the Mord-Sith of Legend of the Seeker (fight scene example: kzbin.info/www/bejne/q52yfYVvgaiKers), but it is being accused of being a "cat-suit". That combination, along with a skull cap type of head protection, would make for a pretty streamlined armor, especially if used by an assassin type of character. :/ And in all fairness, the Wonder Woman "armor" is kinda pointless. As a demi-goddess, she'd be half-impervious to any mortal weaponry. Her divine aura and nature would make bullets useless against her - it might injure her, but not kill her. I mean, Superman is just a plain "mortal" alien, and bullets can be shot directly at his eye and he'd just shrug it off, not to mention he's been resurrected at least once cinematically. DC still hasn't exactly covered on how Diana is able to be half-divine in the modern world, since it's a widely known fact that divine power is either based on tapping a very large power source (usually cosmic or magical in nature), or using faith as a power source (as in the more people believe in you, the more powerful of a divinity you are). :/ And speaking of absurd, that's like having wood huntsmen wearing animal skulls as helmets, and getting their heads bashed in by pieces of wood (I'm talking about the Wrong Turn 2021 reboot). :P
@whitewalker98623 жыл бұрын
@@sigmacademy Elvira and Vampirella are vampires (techically Elvira is a vampire alien if I remember right), so being as seductive supernatural beings revealing looks are part of their characters. A movie production involving one of these characters should accept the classic image and go for it. But a Red Sonja is on another level. Feminity is and always will be a big part of Sonja's character. That's why, as a Red Sonja fan who collected her comics and statues, from my perpective a movie costume design should not destroy her feminine look. She's not a superhero or has got supernatural powers, she's a warrior. Rushing into a fierce battle with wearing only her bikini armor looks cool on comic book, but it would look hilarious for moviegoers and probably lots of internet memes would born from that scene. A good moviemaker can easily make a nod to her comics look in some scenes and also update the armor nicely. 1985 movie did it already, she looked fine, the movie was terrible but her looks wasn't the problem. But unfortunately I don't think today's Hollywood can make a good Conan or Red Sonja adaptations. The announced writer and director choices already proves the direction they're going.

Well, the person they hired for this (according to the video) has practically zero experience. Hollywood execs and producers have absolutely no respect for the art of writing. That's why they think they can cheap out and hire these novices to write scripts who will win them twitter brownie points. Despite dozens of woke movies losing hundreds of millions of dollars over the past few years, the morons who run the studios still can't figure out the obvious. Audiences are wise to their BS and don't want to see woke garbage. Despite how little regard audiences are given, even common people still want well-told stories by talented people.

The only way you'll see a good script is if their paycheck is dependent on the money the movie makes.
@sigmacademy3 жыл бұрын
Well, their failures/miscalculations are someone else's gain. As long as they are paying people with little or no experience money to make poor movie after terrible movie, the actual good writers (and those with potential) are writing good, decent and awesome stories that will lead to them being considered the best by the audience. The audience's opinion is the only thing that matters (both financially and in franchise goodwill) and their appreciation can't be bought, just cultivated by providing them things they enjoy, like great characters who do things that everyone understands and can relate to, and tell stories that resonate with people who only wants good entertainment. :/ For example, I'm keeping my eye on an upcoming movie called Lazarus (2021). It's a mix of the Lazarus power, but with a superhero twist (like the Rendel vigilante movie), mixed with some martial arts, with a black male lead. Looks very promising, and I hope it's an equally good watch like Enhanced (2021) was. As in, it's a franchise I could be persuaded to follow, since it's a return to good entertainment again, and it has an open ending, which opens the door to more movies in the franchise (and 'empowerment' done VERY WELL in the process). :/ On the other side of the spectrum, there's The Unholy (2021) (think about that TV series that featured the Devil posing as the Messiah in modern day), but in this film, it's a female "faith healer" who builds up a large following, who claims her power is divine, but in actual fact, the source of her power is demonic (the trailer doesn't indicate whether she knows this or not). :/ So yeah, there are still stuff to watch out there to watch, but it's just not mainstream. :/

Preferably you would want a natural redhead but you could get away with a blonde and the right hair dye. Personally, if I were casting, I'd put Karen Gillen in the role. She's a natural redhead and has the acting chops to do justice to it, and I think if given the right physical training she'd also bulk up for the role a lot better than ultra-slender Gal Gadot did for Wonder Woman.

@@EddieTheLightbringer I would have to disagree on Karen Gillian. She is approaching middle age at 33ish. Given the pre-production hell, principle photography through post-production re-shoot nightmare culture in studios now. Karen would be nearing 40 when promoting the film on release. Add to this a stalled release date of a few more years and Karen would be well out of the target age studios would want for sequels. If Red Sonja is going to be a bankable franchise and not a one off film flop then they (the studio) will definitely be looking to cast a much younger actress (21-26 model/athlete) someone at least decade younger than Karen.

This potential iteration of Red Sonja has ALL the warning signs of being a disaster, both from a story standpoint and (likely) from a business standpoint. As Andre stated, it looks quite likely that both the currently-attached director and the announced writer were both selected for demographic reasons rather than any previous body of work, although I'll concede to Andre's opinion on the director's experience and skill since I have seen nothing of their work. This doesn't GUARANTEE any particular result -- there have been example in Hollywood of writers and/or directors who are either inexperienced or not otherwise known for handling certain types of material being given a shot at a big movie and the result is great, after all -- but given the experience of even the last five years, it's a definite "uh-oh" warning light. Then again, James Cameron and Tim Miller's attempt to reinvigorate the Terminator franchise worked out like it worked out, and those two names should once have virtually guaranteed success on a project of that nature, so nothing's set in stone. I think the greater warning signal is the unspoken conclusion made by these hiring decisions, that of "right, the IP's most-known iteration isn't PC enough and will get ratio'd on Twitter, so let's throw out all the stuff that make this character memorable to get the project going." That's the first step down the path of a story that doesn't remotely resemble the IP they spent so much acquiring and attempting to develop in the first place. They will, of course, be SHOCKED if it fails. And then blame the audience. For, you know, wanting RED SONJA.

Who ever they choose to play Red Sonja will likely have as much of an effect as who writes it, but this role is very difficult to cast. You'd need someone with the charisma to carry the film, and has the physicality to bring the character to life and have it not come off as another waif who kicks ass character. Katheryn Winnick would have been perfect a few years ago, and if filmed today could still be great, but franchises you have to think about how any actor will look for the next several years. If she could put in enough training time Samara Weaving could be one of the better possibilities.

Considering her original reason for hating "evil men", I can see her being cast as a lesbian (but I'm hoping for a classic feminist) character. As for Conan depiction, I doubt that will happen since the character is owned by someone else. I could more see her TEAMING UP with a black character (since the "barbarian" caste in fantasy would consist of a rather large assortment of characters, especially in port or border towns). I don't want to see a black Conan, but I'd be interested in seeing what they do with a brand new Conan-esque black character; I'd much rather like to see a spin-off of a new or side character's journeys and adventures, like Rongar in The Adventures of Sinbad (USA Networks version). Give me an expanded view of the world of the franchise I've always loved, rather than trying to reboot it every 5 minutes with another actor or actress playing the main character. That's what most people want to see in any case - the world building leading into a much larger fictional world being explored. :/

@sigmacademy3 жыл бұрын
While I agree with the sentiment, I don't think they will go that route. The Xena show had quite the little controversy towards the end of its run, mainly because it teased a possible "love angle" between Xena and her companion that never materialized, not to mention that Ares turned into one of the most well known iteration of the "Reylo Factor" (an abusive "BF" (aka a guy that forces himself into a woman's life simply because he wants to) that sacrifices himself for "love" in the end). Which made it about as relevant as any other romantic subplot in movies of that era, but just based on that alone, I can see why a certain segment of the population would refuse to allow any part of the creative team of that show to be involved in something like this (even though it would be a logical decision to make), but then again, it was made to appeal to the "problematic 50% of the world", not the highly progressive elitist snobs on Twitter these days. :/
@sigmacademy3 жыл бұрын
And yeah, I totally get the entire Ares character arc. He's SUPPOSED to be the top tier villain of the series, but as a god, he'd have no have any reason to become infatuated or obsessed with Xena, apart from admiring her skill in battle, since he's the God of War, and his personality would have been geared towards bloodshed and war making (very much as he was portrayed at the beginning of the series, when he's plotting or scheming on how to get people to fight each other). He made no move to prove his feelings (apart from trying to seduce Xena around every corner), so the entire "guy in love but unable to express it" angle seemed an INCREDIBLY weird angle to take towards the end of the show. :/

@aliprandusaliprandis59083 жыл бұрын
You should start from her old Marvel comics from 70ies: Episodes by Roy Thomas,Bruce Jones,Clara Noto (Red Sonja own series), Savage Sword of Conan (her single episodes), or her guest stories in Marvel Conan the barbarian series (team ups with Conan). marvel.fandom.com/wiki/Category:Red_Sonja_(Earth-616)/Appearances The best and a must read Marvel Red Sonja to get know the character are: The Day of the Sword and Red Sonja (her origin stories), Tower of Blood (t.u. with Conan), Master of shadows, A War of wizards (t.u. with Conan). You can find first 15 episodes (from her own Marvel series) + 2 her origin stories (from Savage SOC) in reprint trades: Adventures of Red Sonja vol 1, 2 and 3 and in trade The further adventures of Red Sonja. From modern era (Dynamite), the first run (2005) by Michael Oeming and Carey is the best. It is dark, tragic, bloody but perfectly represents Red Sonja character. You can find it in Dynamite omnibus vol 1 and 2. I can also recommend recently finished run by Mark Russel. The writing is very good, he concentrates more on politics and social commentary, it has some really smart and cool dialogues and it depicts Sonja as a complex person with doubts and inner conflict but smart, sensitive and loyal to her people. Art is not great but its an excellent read. The best single episodes from Dynamite are Red Sonja no 31 (by Christos Gage) and Red Sonja Blue (by Peter Brett). There are also good single stories in Red Sonja TRAVELS trades (vol 1 and 2) and Savage Tales of Red Sonja trade, so check it out. The graphic novel Ballad of the Red Goddess by Roy Thomas is a must read too. It is a recently published comic book (few years ago) but Thomas and Esteban Maroto (creator of Sonja's famous chain mail bikini) made it in good old school style - this is original, true Red Sonja. You can find all of these comics online for free, of course. And avoid Gail Simone’s Sonja. It's a parody of the character.

Kristanna Loken or Natassia Malthe may also be contenders, but both actresses will probably not be able to commit to more than 1 or 2 movies max (considering the production time usually involved) before their age will mean a younger actress needs to be cast (which means visual continuity will be gone). They both can sport the Red Sonja look still, but I'm unsure what the long-term viability will be of using either, or even if there is even any interest in the role by either of them. With Hannah now announced, already having played another character in the MCU, can’t help but wonder if we’re already seeing effects of the multiverse. You have Gemma in Captain Marvel and Eternals. We might have rebooted versions of the Netflix characters with the same actors, you have all the Spidermen (possibly).... I hope people don’t get mad. This is awesome and she’s an amazing actress.

She is mixed/black woman so it doesnt matter how god actress she is, she can not play Red Sonja, a white Caucasian woman. Of course, fans of Red Sonja are mad.

@@aliprandusaliprandis5908 Sure, Jan. Please. Go hate off on someone else’s comment. I think she’s an amazing actress and she’s gonna do well as the character ✌🏽

Sounds like a woke nightmare. Hopefully it doesn’t get made. This will set back this character for decades.

I'd love to see a Red Sonia movie, which is relatively true to the comics. Looks like a winner to me. I wonder if swords and sandles (or bare feet) can generate audience interest nowadays. I reckon it would do very well.. something for Netflix to sponsor perhaps?
