And as I rounded the corner, oh, I got one heck of a shock
late wheelers were lined up for three city blocks!
Why, I guess every driver for miles around had caught Teddy Bear's call
And that little crippled boy was having a ball
For as fast as one driver would carry him in
Another would carry him to his truck and take off again

And then I carried him back in and put him down in his chair

My Daddy used to take us for rides in his big rig. He came off the road to raise my brothers and I. When his job was done, he went back on the road until he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Now I know how Teddy Bear felt, knowing Daddy will never pull up in his big rig again 😢

I remember riding with my step-dad in 1968 autocar when this song came out . When I was a kid I learned to drive that Autocar. Years had passed and I seen him in Rural King in Highland IL. He said who you driving for now Kevin I said Big R . He said you got a good job . I said yeah I got a God job . I said to Danny Cruthis with a laugh I ought to sock you in the mouth for teaching me to drive a truck at the age of 12 back in 1977 . We both laughed. Danny has long passed and I've been trucking since 1983 .

I told a facebook friend this morning, "I was listening to Red Sovine this morning, remember him? He had a song about a boy named "Teddy Bear." and I cried remembering it. My dad came home from work and told me about this song he heard and how he cried, right there. he was a barber in downtown St Paul. I was maybe 10 years old. My grandfather used to drive as an owner operator sonce before i was born, and i remember when i was a young'un, every now and then he'd stow me away in the back of the cab of his truck and take me on short hauls with him occasionally. I fell in love with the open road and here in a month or two at 21, im gonna be starting training to get my CDL so i can do the same thing for when i have kids or grandkids. I love you Bop, i hope i make you proud.

Amazing how perfectly this sounds like the Studio version. I was certain it was dubbed but it's not, it's just an identical word-for-word recital including all the same pauses and inflections. Red Sovine was an excellent spoken word artist and in some ways it's harder than singing.
