I think the team's offense can compete for an extended window and is adding some stud prospects in Mayer/Anthony/Campbell. There are almost too many good players to keep. That's why they should improve their pitching and trade for someone else young like Jared Jones. If they add a big free agent, it should be someone like Tanner Scott, who provides help in one of their weaker areas
@redseatradioАй бұрын
I agree to some degree, but I also think it is really imporant for these young studs to have a place to lean on and for that place to be solid. With youth is going to come inexperience. Houck has multiple times talked about how when Sale or Paxton or Eovaldi or even Kluber were here that is where he was able to really hone in on what needs to be done that leads to a 2024 like we saw. You can get a guy who is productive as hell and who can be that for insanely talented players

@lionelgardiner4408Ай бұрын
I think its a good move for Valdez himself as obviously his chances of getting substantial playing time in Boston is far less than slim. I'm surprised there has been nothing on Bregman. It seemed the Sox where all over him, Bregman at 2nd is an interesting idea. Moving Raffy is not! Raffy at 1st.. so what happens with Casas? That players upside is too extreme to simply move him without an unbelievable gain somewhere.

Valdez was fun to watch but just didn't hit well enough for me. I felt his fielding improved a bit as time went by. Doesn't look like what we got back is all that impressive. Could improve with development perhaps. Kinda feeling neutral about it. I wish they would stop messing around and seriously sign Burnes. Jared Jones I like too. Walker Bueller would be fine providing his elbow is 100 %. I like him a lot. He did look good in the playoffs this year. :) It feels to me like they are going to get more pitching but just who is a mystery. I have heard Seattle wants Casas for Castillo. That I would not do. He belongs in Boston playing first base for years for us. Keep Dever's at third. There is a lot of stuff going on behind the scenes and its enough to drive you crazy lol. I picture Mayer going to third base eventually has the range and arm. Also RedSox were giving him reps at third last year. Campbell would go to second in that scenario where he’s most comfortable. As far as the trade I think it was just a luck swap, where both teams do it and hope they get lucky that their player does well in the future, for right now it is no big deal and you are right we will most likely forget about this one down the line. As far as any significant trade or FA signing one thing that has happened over the last 4 years now is that anyone the Sox have signed or traded, you heard nothing about prior to the news hitting, even the Crochet trade which we had heard about just happened with no lead up prior. I think most of the noise or rumors that you hear means we are not getting them, unless you get a we have a confirmed report from multiple media outlets (and I mean dependable media not Heyman or others who are usually a yes man or guessing to make themselves look good). So for now, if they do get someone, you will either not of heard about it or not really know of that person. One last thing that Robbie Hyde said was that he heard that multiple times Casa has been referenced in trade talk and when that happens there may be a reason that the Sox do not want to hang onto him even with his power potential, like injury history and persona or that he doesn't want to do an extension that is reasonable for both team and himself. Just something to keep an eye on.

I was playing with Baseball Trade Values. Looked at young, controllable pitching and what might fit for the other team. BTV says these are all fair trades. I do not think Seattle is in the headspace of trading any pitcher except Castillo, but… 1) Jarren Duran and David Hamilton for Logan Gilbert. With a career year and 4 years of control Duran is never going to have higher trade value. 2) Wilyer Abreau, David Hamilton, and Josh Winckowski for Bryan Woo. I know the Pirates do not want to trade Jared Jones, but… 3) Wilyer Abreau and Richard Fitts for Jared Jones. I think BTV’s valuation for Jared Jones is too low. They have him around $40 million. Given his stuff, age, years of control I would think he would be valued closer to a Bryan Woo or Bryce Miller $51-$53 million. In my opinion the Sox would need to come up with another $12 million in trade value for this trade to work. I doubt any of these trades happen, but would you do any of them, and which would be your preferred trade?

I wouldn’t trade Duran. No way no how. 700 AB’s. He shouldn’t be going anywhere but right to the top of that batting order. He’s a stud and basically he does something else really well. He puts fannies in the seats. Right now he’s the face of the Red Sox, and he will be for awhile. Just now reaching his prime. Crochet looks ready to have a breakout season, and something tells me Bello is also. If Mayer would step up and take 3rd base I’d have a higher opinion of him than I do. Tough to lose Teel. I watched him at Virginia and that kid was struck with blessing from above. Chicago knew what they were doing asking for him. I like Anthony, but Teel was always my guy of the big three. He probably has the biggest chance for 2025 impact. I don’t think Anthony is ready as a 20 year old, but we’ll see. Mayer probably has the best chance of that now. You’d have to go back to the “Gold Dust Twins,” for me remembering this kind of young talent. Freddy Lynn and Jim Rice. They also had a rookie of the year Carlton Fisk at catcher. That team would go on to play the Big Red machine in the WS. Johnny Bench, Davey Conception, Pete Rose and Dave Morgan. I was at the game when Fisk willed that HR to stay fair as a 14 year old with my Grandfather in a couple of boxseats behind RS dugout in 1975.

Boras trying to control the whole of baseball and free agency, and Henry sitting there with probably the best farm in baseball getting to be the wrench in Boras doings! @redseatradio come on Corbin, I will tell you what the hell I am talking about. Since the Crochet trade, it seems they aren't going to do much else. And would it surprise you if that ends up being the only thing they do? Oh great, more prospects. This team as it is right now might be better than last year's squad but they will not be legitimate contenders. They still need some key pieces, but it seems they are not willing to go for the jugular in acquiring Corbin Burnes and I wouldn't be surprised if they let guys like Walker B and Flaherty go elsewhere and re-sign Nick Pivetta. Then we still have the right handed bat situation. Keep in mind that they are at a disadvantage now and will have to severely overpay for the right pieces because they have garnered this negative reputation over the past few years. I am still not convinced John Henry is willing to take risky investments for the team outside of Juan Soto.
