i've been out of the loop for a bit but i see all of the hate for the one ring, why not just ban it? like if its a card everyone hates, and its colourless so it fits into almost every deck why not just nuke it?

Because it’s the modern-day Black Lotus, that got WotC/MtG a ton of valuable press when Post Malone blew 2,000,000$ like a fool on the One of One. Because banning it might make the owners of IPs with signature characters/locations/objects more reluctant to cut a deal for Universes Beyond. Because a Universes Within TOR is a money-tree, with respect to the Reprint Equity-based business model that’s the only way modern WotC/Hasbro knows how to peddle cardboard. Format impact is *irrelevant* to the Ban/Not Ban decision.

@@wanderingmercurymarauder761 Maybe not most companies, per se, but WotC/Hasbro hasn’t just been dealing with your usual corporations in search of new IPs for Universes Beyond. I’m shocked they went ahead and Banned TOR in Modern. It’s a great call I give them credit for making. Some animes and video game IP owners might care more than your average movie studio about the treatment of elements of their IP in MtG. That’s the only point I was trying to make.
