Reds are cinema cameras, and there is no interest on shooting at this high framerates. You will be using 24 fps most of the times, 120 fps is just for some slow-mos you may want to do once in a while.

V is fir the “Vista Vision” sensor. Historically a VistaVision film camera utilized the full frame 35mm film plane where most “Super 35mm” turned the film vertical and added an audio strip doen the side, effectively shrinking the film plain per frame. Also, in the live release, the sensor itself is touted as a brand new sensor with faster readout. But maybe you are correct and it’s just a faster processor?

As a tech enthusiast and an APS-C videographer I couldn’t careless about any of a cinema camera that exists on the market except for a fews like FX3/30, BM Pocket Cinema or 6K Pro …until I color graded a sample footages from a Sony Venice and ARRI 35, I was blown away by the insane quality and insane dynamic range that they got. Personally I really like Reds for commercial shoots. The higher resolution when scaled to 4K gives it this certain digital look which reflects in a more sharp image. I wouldn’t use it though on more documentary/narrative content. I just don’t like how the camera looks. Compared to shooting with Arri I’m also really annoyed by the proprietary storage media and the fact that I’ve had so much reliability problems. By example: On one shoot we had two Monstros VV, one of which crashed and didn’t want to boot up again. Luckily we had a backup but still. Managing the rest of the shoot with just one camera was a nightmare. All in all I’m still super impressed how Red pushes digital filmmaking and the boundaries of what is possible in that realm. They also have amazing digital image quality. (I still like the Arris image quality better but for certain situation I 100% prefer the Red)

These Red cameras have such a similar style to a lot of the Bronicas and Mamiyas of the medium format film world where you build out your body to fit your style. Getting a trigger grip for my Bronica made the shooting experience soooo much easier so I totally understand why those little metal grips are awful lol

@@ander1482 Well depends what you use the 12k for. We like to use it for cropping or for slow-motions etc. But price/performance Blackmagic rocks, we got 2 pocket cinemas and the 12k and it's all we need for client work + my channel :).
