This is hands down Marques' best video yet, when I saw the Insta sneak peak I instantly knew it was robotics. I've been looking into stuff like this for a while, the technology blueprint has been available for years e.g. robotic arms in motor manufacturing - Motorized Precision are using it differently in another epic way. As always, the software is gonna be where the money's at ;)

Leo Max it'll be good if they can make the tech affordable (excluding drones)
@leomax85066 жыл бұрын
I don't think they can make it affordable for the average guy. The industrial robots are very expensive, they start from 30.000$ for the smallest one, then you have to learn to program them (they are programmed with manifacturer's specific language), e.g. the robot above is programmed with a laguage called KRL.
@Spirit5326 жыл бұрын
The robot in this video isn't running KRL(well, not meaningful amounts, just one file) - it's got the KUKA.RSI.XML package, which lets you stream realtime data and path corrections via Ethernet.

Not really. These shots are too fast for actual films, and the rig is too expensive for things as simple as panning and dolly. This is best for commercials.
@patrickstarshooter52216 жыл бұрын
@meep ster key words "film quality". And he CLEARLY explained in the video that the speed of shots can be adjusted. you make it as slows as you want or as fast as you need.
@meepster5546 жыл бұрын
patrick starshooter it's 150,000 dollars. That's an obtuse amount of money for something a steady rig or tracks can do for a much cheaper price.
@patrickstarshooter52216 жыл бұрын
@meep ster that's an obtuse amount for you. Not for Hollywood. Most companies would buy that outright if they thought they would use it often. 150,000 is nothing to big companies. Not to mention that's the cost to purchase the product, it costs about 5k to hire it......which is virtually NOTHING to Hollywood producers. This device is clearly not made for amateur film producers.

Can you imagine the maths and complicated computations that this robot might be doing to do these precise movements. I have a friend who was pursuing his PhD in IISc, Bangalore in the field of Computer Science. I asked him what exactly he is doing? He said he is working in the the field of Algorithmic Algebra to come up with different algorithms to solve systems of non-linear equations. I didn't understand one bit of what it meant. I asked him where can it be applied. He said it is used in calculating reach of a robotic arm in a 3D space. I had forgotten this conversation which I had almost three years back. After all that conversation that we had on that afternoon all didn't go in vein.
@Spirit5326 жыл бұрын
Not really. This is just inverse kinematics. Basic geometry, but you keep stacking angles on top of angles and they backpropagate. Either way, that's already handled by the robot. You can either tell it to turn the axes to a specific angle(forward kinematics), or use inverse kinematics and operate in a cartesian space(X/Y/Z). The software just tells the robot where to move in space, and by the looks of it, not even curves. Just linear point-to-point moves. Extend your hand in a straight line, and look at what your wrist, elbow, and shoulder joints do. That's inverse kinematics in a cartesian space.
@spikeypineapple5526 жыл бұрын
The inverse kinematics on a robot with this many joints is so difficult. Have you ever wondered why if you look at industrial robots, anything other than car production looks a bit janky? It's cuz the robot has redundant joints, and the first joint gets you to roughly the right place, then the forearm does the exact move, with 1 less degree of motion.
@Spirit5326 жыл бұрын
The joints are most definitely not redundant. There are plenty of applications where you can't get away without using all 6 axes at the same time. It's not really difficult, either. The math gets a bit complicated if you try to do it all at once, but once you break it down into the basic segments, it's back to simple IK solving. The only difference is that IK joints drive each other before they reach the anchor point and the tool respectively.
