Oh man, only one thing missing--your opening salutation: "Hi! I'm Brian the Bootmaker. And today...." Another fabulous job, one of your best videos, with a lot of detailed steps demonstrated. Mahalos!
@sheph7ceo7995 жыл бұрын
There is much superb craftsmanship and artistry here not only in the boot making and repairing but also in the video production and music choice. Simply exceptional. Over the years I have thrown out many pairs of boots because I could find no one to repair them and an equal number I did not buy because they were too high, or had the wrong soles. This level of work is rare very rare and not to be found in my neighborhood.
@cabbyhubby6 жыл бұрын
I myself like the shorter boot, I wear my Red Wings seven days a week until they are wore out, sometimes my local store (35 miles away) will only have the taller boots in stock, so I buy it, and sometimes it is discounted. So I would be someone who would want the boots cut down. BTW I'm on my 13th pair of RW's in 34 years.

I can think of a million reasons why, main one being the 875 is the only other 6 inch variation of the moc toe and it doesn't have a full one piece construction like the 877 does. The heel and upper vamp are all one piece stitched to the moc toe, so it takes a lot longer to break it. The only part of the 877 that's difficult to break in is the shaft of the boot, so they had it cut down. And it's probably a lot more comfortable as a result! Red wing doesn't do these kinds of alterations themselves unfortunately!

Brian's love for his craft, dedication, care and work ethic are values we should be teaching our kids. My Dad came to the states from Italy in the early 1900's. He was a blacksmith. I remember as a kid he told me his uncle taught him the trade. Talked about it like it was the air he breathed. Held his teacher in high esteem, just like Brian does. Brian, your passion for your craft gives me hope that younger people in this world can be infected with it!

Eugene Lee It's higher than the 875, so that's one thing. The other is, the 875 has a really different heel structure, an internal counter more like a regular round toe boot's heel. They might prefer this one.

Well I grew up in Germany where every shopping center and or major store had a cobbler. When I moved to the USA in 1991 I quickly found out I could buy a new pair of Danner Gortex and Thinsulate lined boots for the same price as having a local shop put new soles on them. I like skilled trades and keeping the money local as much as the next guy but it has to financially responsible and a good investment in me. It is kind of like blue jeans. On the one hand you can buy $9 blue jeans made in China or you can spend$99-$149 for "cheap" union made in the USA jeans or you can by $1000 jeans.The gap is too great between $9 and $99-$149 jeans you can not xpect a working man or a family man to drop that per pair of jeans for his kids. The problem being that your economy has to be based on most of the people having skilled trades jobs and manufacturing not service industries to afford this. Once you go to a consumer economy and almost no one has high paying skilled trade jobs you can no longer afford to repair things because the man-hour the labor rate is too high. It does not matter if it is boots or electronics in the end they have a lot in common.
