I used to not be a fan of the moc toe style, but then I got myself a pair and I love them now. With Red wing I stick true to size, good stuff. Best wishes for you in 2023 take care.

Went to a Red Wing outlet and tried on a pair of these. The guy there helping me really knew his stuff and gave me a pair of size 9s which are my sneaker size. Sure enough they fit me just right. Standard width as well despite my feet being wide. I have a pair of 1000 miles and golden fox boondockers and both are a full size down from my sneaker size. Apparently the 877 fits true to size for me.

I finally got to try on iron rangers yesterday. Sizing was so easy! Half a size down was really comfortable out of the box and a full size down was really comfortable too but a bit more snug so that's what I'm going with. I think the 23 last is just not a very good last for most people. The much more accomodating width , the heel hold and the lower instep made them instantly comfortable.

I am a bit stuck with red wing sizing. I've tried the moc in 8 US and 8.5 US The 8 US fits well in volume and length might be too narrow as it grips the sides of my foot very tight, but the 8.5 has a high instep and needs a few mm insole to fill up the excess volume and has a bit of heel slip. They are also a bit on the narrow side but would probably break in. Neither feels truly right.

Purchased a pair of Iron Rangers not too long ago and from what I read most people on average were going down one full size. I went to the Red Wing store for my purchase and they measured me as a 12E. The salesman said the 12 will probably fit me best. They fit like a firm handshake at first and the first month, I was cursing the salesman because they KILLED my feet. After a month of frequent wearing they are really comfortable. Still a tiny bit snug but not too snug

@@whereRbearsTeeth but you are aware that a shoe of any kind shouldn’t be uncomfortable to the point that it causes pain long term. Many high end boot companies say that the firm handshake is not the way to go. But you know what they say, opinions are like a$$holes…..everyone’s got one and no one wants to hear it.

If you want a pair of red wings I always say it’s best to go in the store and get measured on a Brannock device. It’s also important to note that all boots fit differently because they use different lasts. There are just certain clothing pieces that need to be tried on before buying. Boots and jeans are the best examples.

Hi Tom, the 1907 fits different from other moc toes as they are a different last + they come with the removeable insole which makes the boot fit a little snug. I agree on sizing though it seems very ambiguous. Recommendations are either to go half size down or TTS which doesn’t help - I have taken a chance and ordered half size down today so we will see…

Red Wing sizing 😅: Iron Ranger and Rover in 8D, Pecos 8.5E Used to have the Billy Boot in 8D but they were a little to snug, sold them and bought the 877 in 8.5D now the 877 is a little on the roomy side. I used to have Engineers in 7.5D because the RW employee advised me to, sold them because they were to snug. I also have a pair of 1907 in 7.5D, also advised by RW but had them stretched a couple of times and now they’re okay with thin socks. I used to have a pair of motorcycle Engineers with a Vibram sole, the were size 7.5D and pretty roomy, I could only wear them with thicker socks. My best fitting RW’s are the Iron Ranger and Rover in 8D and the Pecos in 8.5E.

I don't find them super difficult so far but I haven't tried a ton of them. I had my feet measured on a Brannock device 11.5/11.6 E I got 11 Wides in both the Iron Ranger and the Moc Toe. The mocs are a bit more narrow they're comfortable initially but if I wear them all day they start to pinch. That said they're still breaking in I've only worn them a few days so I'm confident they will stretch out that couple millimeters to fit just right.

Moc toes in ALL brands is so hard to size. The 875 comes in EE so you CAN size down 1 full size in EE, sometimes. I already have an E width. My Iron Rangers are just 1/2 size down. The only Red Wing Moc Toe that's on a different last is the 1907, and those fit me when I take out the insole. Maybe in a few months when they're worn in more, I'll be able to put the insole back in. Thursday moc toes I had to go True to Size. So, I can just never tell. I'd love to get a Russell moc, but at $500-600, I can't justify a boot that may or may not fit. I wish the 877 had a EE so I could size down a full size and go wide. I like the look of the 8 inch shaft.

I have a pair of 7 inch boots with eyelets, no hooks, and it's a pain getting them on and off. Do you have to relace the top few eyelets each time with those?

I agree. So I am actually trying to replace the eyelets with speedhooks now

I had the Billy Boot with the speedhooks, I sold them because they were a little to snug and bought a pair of 877’s halve a size bigger. Putting on the Billy Boot was way more easy and faster then the 877 because of the speedhooks. Because of the lacing I seldom wear the 877’s for short walks. I might put some speedhooks on them when they need fresh soles.

For moc toe Id recommend d sizing for who is going to wear them almost daily so the toe box will stretch and stay wide. Otherwise e width is a good option for those who will rotate
