New Drive Belt Change

Fun and Games installing the new drive belts on the WoodMaxx DC-1260

I have the same machine. The nut did come off the eyebolt, same as yours, and shredded the belts. Woodmaxx sent new belts, and I ran into the same difficulty of too much tension, trying to get the eyebolt back through the tab. After much cursing, inspiration hit. I went to the hardware store, and got a longer eyebolt. You can reach the tab without much tension, put on your nut of choice, then wrench it down to tension the belts. Also, I quickly realized that the multiwrench they supply is too cumbersome, so I assembled a little set of all the necessary sizes of ratchet wrenches, and put them in the storage cylinder for use in the field. Putting the belt cover back on also was frustrating until I bent the sheet metal in a few places to fit better, and replaced some of the holding screws with longer ones. Still, I like the machine enough to say I would buy it again. It self feeds most stuff, and has enough power to chip voraciously. I move it around our acreage by hitching it to a ball in the clamp-on receiver that I clamp to the front bucket of our tractor, which means I mostly push it. I recommend getting the optional axle extensions for stability.

No need for the spring. Move your jam nut above the tab, put the nylock nut below the tab, and tighten them both down onto the tab. You will also gain 1/4" making it easier to put the eye bolt through the tab. I think you would do much better with a set of "American Made" matched belts also. Good looking chipper when it's working, but seems like some improvements are needed.

RBB, so is this a cwap machine, besides the power/beast ya said? I'm on the fence, and now thinking of going halvies with my next door neighbor...of my suggestion. Your video of getting it home is Dec. 2019, and now new belts hassle in March 2020? yoiks! It doesn't look like you answer questions, but anyway. ~ And this comes with a tip of pulley alignment I learned in '79 for furnaces: ~~ These size pulleys just use kite string. 3' pulleys snap string is easier. Wrap string around pulley A. (either could be A pulley) Then bring string across face of pulley A, across to and over both sides of pulley B. The string should touch second side of pulley A, and both sides of pulley B at same. ~ Then aim highest at pulley B, then lowest. All four points should touch at same. If not something is out on line. ~~~ yeah, it helped the maint. team putting a huge evaporation blower back together..again that shook itself to failsafe shutdown. Five belts, fair span, a heavy straight edge left room for error. lol, feathered my hat I did. Varied thickness of pulley edges/seat is uncommon.

Take the spring off the eye bolt and put a nut and washer on each side of the bracket and tighten

You should be the assembly manager at woodmax! Just imagine how much of these are sold with that short handed assembly??? Seems also that little or no testing was done.

I am surprised there is so much movement of that spring even at idle.
