They all suck long term, and under load, they all lose charging capacity after a few discharge cycles. I've yet to buy an off brand 6Ah dewalt battery that didn't lose capacity after a week or two of use. They lose a bar or two on the charge indicator, and as for the XR grinder, you can hear it no longer winds up to full speed once they drop a bar on the indicator, so it might be voltage drop vs capacity or a mix of the two.

You came to exact same conclusion as I have - Waitley is a great value. I have quite a few. The Waitley 6ah is better than my OEM DeWalt 5ah (Chinese knockoffs always overstate ah). All my Waitley's have lasted at least 5 years - not one has failed or noticeably degraded.

The aftermarket 18650/21700 cells used in these battery packs are not using high amp discharge cells, so they can't handle high amp applications like the grinder (with a load) for long. They'll overheat and degrade faster as well (less charging cycles). Some of the best cells out there are made by Samsung and Panasonic, which the cheap clones aren't using (can't use at those prices). I'm curious as to what brand cells DeWalt is using. I build drones and have tested dozens of various brand/model 18650 batteries.

I just bought 2 Waitley 6Ah 20v batteries and 2 DeWalt 5Ah 20v batteries from Amazon. I tested each battery and while the DeWalt did indeed have Samsung 25R batteries the Waitley batteries had ZERO writing on them. Next I performed a capacity test and found the Waitleys were 3883 and 3863 mAh batteries closer to 4 Ah batteries and not the 6 Ah as advertised. The DeWalts tested at 5123 and 5092 mAh each surpassing the 5 Ah as advertised. I have both genuine Samsungs and Molicel batteries for replacing the batteries in the Waitleys when they die.

This is awesome, good to see where a knock preforms well enough and where it doesn't. I always wondered if the real batteries were just huge market up, and this shows, not exactly. I've used four 6ah Waitley's for at least 5 years - still going strong. I keep them charged and rotate thru all my batteries (including my OEM DeWalt batteries) so none gets overused/underused. Fwiw, I bought a couple 12ah DeWalts last year with my lawn mover/chainsaw/weed trimmer - one failed after 6 months. DeWalt replaced it quickly without hassle, so that ~$300 price tag per battery was at least worth something.

I now have several more and larger DeWalt batteries but haven’t tested to compare but i use the waitley on a fairly regular rotation and don’t notice a huge drop off. It is a 5amp. I have had issues with several aftermarket batteries I have bought. The single observed flaw is the inability for them to produce a continuous flow of power. They will power my DeWalt DCE100 blower only in bursts. Even the highly rated Waitley will produce power to the blower for less than 60 seconds on a full charge. When I release the switch on the blower, pause, then re-engage it will run again for a period of time. These 'bursts' of power decrease in time below 75% power, and then diminish to 5 second bursts until the battery is near depletion. The original DeWalt batteries are 5+ years old and still produce full, uninterrupted power from full charge to depletion....

Great video. Thank you for the hi load testing as well. I am curious about the difference between the new and the used DeWalt 5Ah battery..and how these batteries fare with repeated charges and how quickly they degrade over time.. ie- after a fixed amount of charging cycles...say ten...what is the battery performance then? That would clinch the deal between the top contenders (DeWalt and Waitley.) You don't even need to bother with the rest. My question is how do they all degrade after repeated charging cycles.
@RedBeardOps2 жыл бұрын
Good question! I'm not sure. The Waitley has been working well for me so far
@dperreno3 жыл бұрын
The other consideration is how they hold up over time/recharge cycles. I'd be willing to bet that you can get many more recharge cycles out of the DeWalt batteries (also justifying their higher cost), but it would be interesting to see if that is the case.

DeWalt 20v is actually 18v. It's 20 volts measured straight off of the battery, it's 18v under a load.

Picture a 12v battery in your car. Your system is a 12v but your alternator charges it 13.5-14 volts. So is it 12v or 14v system? What I am saying is " 18v tools and 20v nominal is exactly the same thing." Overseas their new dewalt stuff has 18v written on them. This is why all the 18v and 20v tools will run off each other's batteries when using adapters. It's just misleading jargon. Would you rather buy one get one free for 10.00 or buy them two for 10.00. Same thing just a play on words.

I sold a Dewalt saw to a construction worker. I was talking to him about eBay batteries. He purchased many. He said the all work great last about as long however after several months he said they started dying!

Hi, enjoyed your test. I have a question about the 60 Flexvolt have you tried them and is there a knock off for them as they are very expensive. Thanks

Would be good to know how the waitley batteries are still performing after longer term use. Are you still using them over a year down the line or have they not make the journey?
@RedBeardOps2 жыл бұрын
Yep I'm still using it. No issues thus far.

2.5Ah? The batteries that came with my drills were 1.5Ah. I got robbed lol. I also have two 4.0Ah batteries but I guess it's time to look for 6-12Ah , but they just cost so much.
@RedBeardOps2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, they aren't cheap for sure

Do you know any knockoff 20v angle grinders that use dewalt style batteries?
