Preferably get yourself a decent set of micrometers to measure your crankshaft to see if it is oval shaped. If all you are doing is small engines you could get by with just a couple mics. You don't necessarily need high end mics like Mitutoyo or Starrett. They are nice but cheaper mics work as well.

I put a ton of assembly lube on everything in an engine. Last engine I rebuilt was a 4 cylinder Continental from a forklift and it takes a while for oil pump to pull up oil after a rebuild so I used around 6-8 oz of assembly lube on it. It sits and idles with 30lbs of oil pressure so must have done something right. It was my first full rebuild without any assistance. Helped my dad rebuild several engines but the first one I did by myself. Next I have a 6 cylinder IH diesel that I'm rebuilding. I have a 212 Hemi Predator that's going to be getting some work done to it as well pretty soon.

Very nice. I have a few gx390's sitting around was going to sell them but places are starting to run out. I gotta small, very similar to lil red, kart that im thinking of replacing the 212. I may end up getting another frame, this one is my go to and pretty nice for a 212. I weight 265lbs and hits over 40mph and doesn't jack around getting there. Out of all the karts I have it always starts 1st or 2nd pull and is ready to go. Its the only kart that's remained intact over the years I could go ride it right now.

Do you have a favorite air filter for a stage 1 non hemi predator 212? I race go carts on dirt and in my class we run modified predators witch are basically stage 1 predators with the standard upgrades and nothing internal, the only think I know of that’s different is relocating the gas tank and adding a fuel pump witch shouldn’t change anything performance wise, and also my engine builder said they modified something in the valves, I can’t remember if it’s stiffer springs or just lash but aside from that I was wondering if you had a favorite performance air filter that gives you the most horse power with stage 1 jetting but also filters well since we run on dirt and it can get pretty dusty, every little gain helps on the track, thanks, keep building 👍

I used it like that but I had made an oil cooler for mine and that's where the oil fed back into the engine. It worked pretty well untill the bottom end came apart. I used all stock internals but Frankensteined a 196cc and a 212 together for ccs in the head and I had like 50 lb clutch springs for a KTM dirtbike that I used for valve springs. My 212 was running 60mph on stock internals, with a drilled and ground stock flywheel (big no no for safety) and I had the 34 mm makuni. At one point me and my buddies lost the exhaust pipe so we ran it shooting flames out the head and it ran like a raped ape.

Just a heads up..you cannot get an accurate torque holding the block still with your free hand while jerking on the torque wrench..1 or 2 bolts hand tightened is sufficient on the side away from the direction of torque to give a much more accurate torque ... Also, never ever snap the torque wrench bouncing it off of the click... Simply pull on it slowly and steadily until it clicks and then ease off the pressure... Also you may reuse any gasket that hasn't failed or been compromised by applying a thin coat of enamel spray paint allowing to fully dry before applying a 2nd heavy coat allowing it to fully dry before reassembly.. Any V8s,v6s,i4s,i6s,v4s,v2,single cylinder gaskets as long as they're not an o ring type... Also always apply break in lube to every single friction area or rotational assembly and bearing when reassembling or assembling any engine.. Well worth the minimal investment costs during initial start up and break in...

I posted this on an older 440 build you did but maybe I can get more help here. I was going to build this tame setup. So I called GoPowerSports and they said they don't do have a kit that works with DuroMax 440. They were very unhelpful as far as compatibility. Any suggestion? should I buy there kit anyway and see if it fit? It looks like yours fits and runs ok. So are the 420's and 440 mostly identical? Thanks

Always makes me cringe when people are building a motor and they go full rip on the hone instead of a slow spin and quick up and down strokes to get a 45 degree cross hatch. Too much rpm on the hone like that creates a very tight cross hatch that retains a lot of oil (smoker) AND causes more wear on the rings at the same time 😬
