When Phesto Dee set in with: "We're silver surfing over sound waves" that shit brought me all the way back to 2001 when I convinced the management to blast 3rd Eye Vision at full volume at a skatepark near Amsterdam. Everyone at the park cheered when after a short silence they heard: "Now we're here, Hieroglyphics!" from the albums intro. What followed was an hour of over a hundred people rapping along while skateboarding, rolling joints and just having a blast. Sometimes I wonder if these artists had any clue how well known and respected they were and still are outside of the US. Unfortunately in that time without much useful social media it must have been near impossible to reach out to all the fans in order to let them know that you were touring, let alone even know that your music was reaching them and if they liked it or not.
