AS far as an esc goes, instead of a $40 crawler esc goes, we in the rc planes use a 20a, reversible esc. U can get a BRUSHED version with reverse for $10 to $15.00 on Amazon. Being a brushed system, there are a ton of inexpensive options! 👍
@FarmerFpv2 жыл бұрын
@@old-rcplane-phart They have bad control. Plance ESC would not be good for crawling. They are kinda rough when they start and stop. they don't have a drag brake. Brushed crawler ESCs are expensive for a reason. They have precise control over the motor.

These stock servos are weak, 6kg. I swapped mine to 20kg with the horns. Helped a lot, swapped tires, used metal body links, and have 20mm wheel spacers. Oh yeah and went to 2 s lipo, this truck is so light it still hops a lot. So today I added weights to the rims on the front tires and put weights on each servo. I will test it again tomorrow.

I think people forget .. sure a shafty is more scale in looks and performance and have become somewhat the stable for crawling these days but I remember a time when moa crawlers when built right couldn’t be touched they are absolutely monsters out on rocks this truck shares some of those ideas and with very little money I’d bet it can crawl with anything. Maybe even beat some high end crawlers on certain lines and obstacles..

Well, if you’re not increasing power TOO much, I think you’ll be fine for at least a season or more. My 4-year old really drives this thing abusively cuz he’s still learning and I’ve kept heavy 2.2s on it. Proline 5.5 super swampers, jconcepts ruptures, and axial ripsaws have all been through ~25 stock battery packs of my sons heavy throttle use and constant binding the wheels between rocks. He HAS broken the knuckles where the steering linkage mounts 4 times now…. I had “upgraded” to metal links, so i went back to the plastic stock links and no more broken knuckles…yet. So, if you’re stay with your awesome mechanically sympathetic driving, you should be golden on 2.2s

Here's a link to some damper mount extensions I designed and 3D printed. I did that as I wanted to stop the one damper fouling the motor case on each axle, as it restricts articulation one way. Articulation is crazy now! Link thangs.com/wordreet/Set-of-four-Ravine-Damper-Mount-Extensions-8mmstl-9615 Oops! Almost fergot to add that I've hacked off the lower 15 to 20mm of the chassis side plates and re-drilled a bunch of holes further up. The ESC now resides loose on top of the battery. Not nerdy perfect, but it still works and is further away from any wet stuff we might drive through!

It looks a really capable rig for the price , Add Some good tyres and some weight it'll be a different animal
@wordreet3 жыл бұрын
Hehe, for the price it's genius, lets be honest! 'Tis my first crawler by the way.But I began racing RC buggies in the lat '80s. Anyhoo. Do not run 3S batteries in it, it'll ruin the motors in fairly quick time. Remove the foams from the tires, and do what I have started to do. Which is to hole punch the tread blocks all round each tire. It takes HOURS and hours, and I've only done one tire so far, but it's making a big difference to the rigidity, and presumably, the grippity. 😉 And why are you talking about light weight? I've started adding weight to the axles and wheels! Loads of it. Haven't tried the fully weighted machine yet, but will do shortly. Ok, I have also spent an extra 60 on super soft crawler tires, and they are tops! Chassis mods are up there too. purchased some 4mm threaded ball pivots and made up some bent ally rod link arms, after drilling and tapping 4mm in each end. I made 'em 10mm 10 mm longer than stock, including the ball pivots. Unscrewed the center top pivot link near each motor and added a single m4 nut as a spacer and reassembled. More to follow below(above?).
@m.richards69473 жыл бұрын
Is there any way to make it just a little bit faster without ruining it?
@wordreet3 жыл бұрын
@@m.richards6947 You could run a lipo battery, and it will be just a little quicker, but it really is just a little. Even using a 3s pack only makes it 2mph faster. So 7mph instead of 5. But 3s will burn out the motor brushes more quickly. The ESC is for brushed motors only. The true way to make it quicker, (a multi channel transmitter/receiver + brushless motors and ESCs) would probably destroy the nylon gears, as only the motor pinions are metal.

Great video series. I just got one of these for xmas with a wheel wobble (any ideas what causes these), and I've been doing $0 cost changes based on some of your recommendations. However, I do see a need to weigh down the front and lower the center of gravity without lowering the truck. Any idea on how to flip the shocks so the heavy part is on the axel? they don't fit when you flip them; bushels and screws don't match.
