The danchee wiith aftermarket tires can go almost anywhere. My first ever rc and I'm over 65. Mines used almost daily for 8+ months, nothing has broken. The best first one imo.

I'm a new addition to the hobby, and i've found the Ridgerock to be rather good in overall value! I added better servos (stock ones died early on) and took out the foams in the tires and soaked the tires in WD-40 for a few days as well. I also cut the tires for some more bite and now it performs really nice! Hoping to get an SCX-24 and a Gen8 V2 so it has some friends as well. I have also found that the Ridgerock also floats in water, but I'd be careful with that.

Welcome to the hobby! Happy to hear that you’re enjoying the ridgerock! It is a big value and solid performer. The scx24 and Gen 8 v2 are both excellent choices as well. FYI I’ve seen the Gen 8 v2 on sale for $260ish lately……shop it around and you may find a deal on brand new. Awesome to read that you’re taking on some DIY projects to improve the Ridgerock……that’s what it’s all about, have fun my friend! 👍

I read somewhere that the tires are plastic. I put 1x9 mud terrains on mine, I thought the stock tires were too wide for rock crawling and hard. Just got rain, so it's a good day to crawl. Almost a year, and nothing has broken yet. I got my money's worth the first week. Didn't try taking the foams out of the stock tires, that might be better. Still works perfect.

@@SonoranScaleStudios aw thanks! I watched that video but somehow missed that. I'll blame my adhd and hit it again to see. I've kept an eye on your channel for a few months. It's nice to see things moving again, the last month was rough eh? I had a slow august and there's that feeling of it being a grind at times, eh? Keep at it, you're making a beautifully slow paced and relaxing library of interesting and useful stuff. I really enjoy it.

Unfortunate to hear that last month was rough for you too but at the same time makes me feel a little better, it was definitely a down month. Likewise regarding your channel, I have been following for several months now and I agree it can get to be a bit of a grind at times. Your library is fantastic keep them coming!

I have the danchee and only upgraded the tires. I did the pen spring mod like I saw you mentioned. I think it doesn’t work well because I lost quite a bit of the articulation. It looked better sitting lower however the performance suffered more without the wheels having the almost 90 degree articulation. There has to be a way to not loose that flexibility but lower it without expensive mods? Maybe removing the outside springs? Or somehow weakening them.

I upgraded mine with 2.2 proline hyraxes 25kg servo's and the different motors that Exocaged linked in his video's on the Ridgerock and when I put a 3s on it it fried the ESC and one of the motors. It was a beast on 2s with that setup though. Going to rebuild it with a hobbywing 880 and see how that goes. Great video and you got a new sub. Keep modding the Danchee a lot of us newbies like it.

This was right down my alley. I have a good selection of RC’s but the Ridgerock has been on my radar for awhile. I was going to get it but got a Windigo. Now I’m definitely getting one & start the mods. There’s like 3 or 4 RC’s I’ve seen lately I want so it never ends. The performance & value out of the box & most importantly the fun factor is threw the roof. And that is what it is really about Fun! Are the wheels metal? I know the ones that come on it are plastic but that extra weight & tire size must make it perform way better. Awesome

Good commentary to go along with the crawling. I've contemplated getting a Ridgerock, just so I replace the body/cage with the toy-grade "609E" that I got from Banggood, which is also MOA.

Agreed regarding the shorty 3s pack. I ran twice with great results however way too much heat generated in the esc with ambient air temps being above 105, it doesn’t take much to start burning stuff up. In winter months or a more temperate climate 3s would be my choice as well. How do you like the Showdowns? I’ve been looking at the 1.9’s for another truck, I like the lug pattern but have no experience with them. Thanks for the input!!

Question will the steering linkage fit the ridgerock? New subscriber 🙋.
@SonoranScaleStudios2 жыл бұрын
Hey thanks for the sub and the comment. Yes there are an assortment of steering links out there that will work on the ridgerock. They are longer links and the stock plastic has a lot of flex. While using the stock steering servos I think I would stay with the stock links (maybe absorb some torque and prolong servo life?). But with aftermarket more powerful servos, removing the slop from the steering would be nice 👍

...When you installed the amazon clone tires, did you leave the foam inserts in the tires or did you remove them to get a little more sidewall and tread face flex from the new tires? My Ridgerock has just started going down the mod trail, so the timing of your series is just about perfect. My mods so far is adding stick on weights to the wheels, pull the foam out of the stock tires and move the servo and motor wiring to the upper suspension links. The re-located wires look a lot better and no longer get bashed on roots, rocks and other obstacles. Love the series and can't wait for new episodes. You've got yourself a new subscriber, keep up the good work...
@SonoranScaleStudios3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment! I have recently done the same with the wiring, especially after going to alloy links the wire zip ties hung up quite often and moving to the upper link solved it! Regarding the foams…..With aftermarket tires you will definitely want foams installed, much much softer tire that the stock ridgerock tires. For full detail I am actually using the foam inserts from the stock Ridge rock tires in the Amazon clone tires. They made a very good combination.
@elipski34643 жыл бұрын
... I just ordered the amazon clone tires. I'll try them on the stock wheels (that have already been modded with tires weights) with the foam inserts from the clones as well as the stock foam inserts. I'll also try them with no foams and let you know how it goes. I'll look into doing the pen mod on the shocks, but first I'll try inverting the shocks and/or trying different weight shock oil. I've seen where others have gone those routes and liked the results. Again, I'll let you know how it goes...

How do you like those clone KLR's? Do you still have them? Did they last alright? Are they pretty soft? Looking into getting a set myself, but torn since it's basically another $30-40 to just go with some name brands.
@drewnewcomb2909 Жыл бұрын
Did you ever end up making a video on the tires themselves like you said you planning on in the video? I've tried to find, but haven't had luck
@SonoranScaleStudios Жыл бұрын
I did not end up doing a full tire review on these. I still have them but they are not my favorites. They are decently soft but I’m not a huge fan of the compound. Also found the tread to be really tight. I did do some tread modifications to them in another Ridgerock video which helped some in performance but killed the aesthetics at the same time lol. They aren’t a “bad” tire, you would just need to be a major fan of the look/tread pattern, otherwise I think there are better options for the same price range. They do seem to have a long wear life to them which would be a plus.
@drewnewcomb2909 Жыл бұрын
@@SonoranScaleStudios thanks for the response man, I really appreciate it. What have you found to be your favorite or best performing "cheap/budget" tires? Also while I'm asking, what are your favorite tires if money is no object?
@SonoranScaleStudios Жыл бұрын
The clone of the BFG KM3’s are the best budget tire I’ve had, they come close to or better than some other higher priced. The problem is they are hit or miss to find online but I have gotten them off Amazon in the past under the hobbypark and popcornon company names. Money no object and performance is the goal, specifically climbing I’d say currently the Rupture gets my vote. I’m also partial to the Pitbull Growler for looks and performance/quality.

The stock 2.2” wheels are made of plastic but the good news is they are a true beadlock design, so no glue necessary 👍 make sure to get 2.2” crawler tires if you plan to use the stock wheels and you should be good to go
