@@SonoranScaleStudios no problem. Haven’t crawled with it yet but it seems way better then the gen 7 pro I have. Defiantly well built and super affordable compared to other ones. No reason not to buy it!

So impressed on the dual truck driving, that ain't easy!! Nice job on the video, that's a good comparison - one I can't do, as I haven't got the RTR Sport (it was implied that it was RTR in this video without being stated outright, vs the kit, that is - but possibly a little more info in the Description could be helpful to the newcomer with manufacturer links for each, for example). Great production and overall video quality - things keep getting better on Sonoran Scale Studios :D Keep up the great work! (Oh, and congrats on hitting 1k subs. That's a Big Deal and I've been rooting for you since first discovering your channel earlier on in both our journeys! Woohoo!!)

Gen8 is my favorite..had the V1 when it came out. Been stuck on that rig ever since. I just paint the clear bodies when I want a different look. Axe body too. I have 2..lol. Scout🇺🇸

I have both & the Gen 8 is definitely the more bang for your buck crawler. I’ve had both out & I’m always excited to get the Gen out. The TRX is exactly what you hear about it. Reliable unbreakable & great performance. And to compare I also have the new TRX Bronco & I must say in its stock form can outperform both. Both TRX’s are getting upgrades & the Gen has upgraded electronics & Treal metal axles. I have a Chevy truck 1967 Proline body for the GEN but man I love the Scout body even though it’s tall & heavy. Great to see the trucks out. I’m definitely getting my Gen out Sunday my day off. Great looking trucks.

I have owned both and I agree that they are both great out of the box but I really like the Scout body. Had Traxxas been first with the Scout body, I would have a Traxxas. The Canyon Trail stock tires on the Sport are much better in my opinion than the Iroks that come stock on the Gen8, however the nod goes to Redcat since the stock wheels are beadlock where as the Traxxas wheels have the tires glued on. Just my $.02😀

Great comparison. I've been trying to decide on my next crawler, and have it narrowed down to these two rigs. Got a scx10 ii honcho and enduro trailrunner, now I'm wanting a portal axle truck. The trx4 sport seems more nimble and capable, but the gen 8 looks a lot more scale. I'm in the Pacific Northwest and mostly just trail my trucks. So I'm sure either would be a great choice. I like and plan on buying a Gen8 V2 as soon as I can(August). I have thousands of dollars worth of upgrades and ideas for a couple Redcats and some Tamiya TT-02 kits. Thanks for all your videos and awesome content, they've been a big help in my year of research to help me get back into RC.

Much prefer my TRX4 to my Gen 8. TRX4 is overall smoother and better in every way and the Redcat Gen 8 has a cheapness feel to it in comparison and drives really clunky.

There is a noticeable difference in materials used without a doubt. I do prefer the redcat transmitter over the TRX4 sport TQ transmitter but I too prefer the drivetrain of the TRX4.

I have a TRX I've had a long time and I've just bought a red jet wandingo and I'm going to take the portal access off of my TRX and mimic the wendango and see which one is tougher thank you good video

In this video I’m about 40 min southwest of Phoenix. There are great spots all around the edges of the valley and more in the Papago park area. There are a few crawler groups on Facebook too that have meetups and lists of good locations.

You say almost impossible to break but I broke the steering links and a drive line shot out the first 2 times I ram the redcat so personally I prefer the traxxas

That’s a bummer to hear that you had a negative experience with either of them. Ive been fortunate with a bulletproof rig so far, no issues to speak of with either the gen8 or trx4. I have heard others with less than acceptable build quality along with some QA issues especially in the gen8 v1, so as you described there are some problem units out there. For me both trucks have taken serious abuse and keep coming back for more, I can’t say that for all the rigs in my collection.

Is the red cat scout 2 v2 a good trail truck / crawler right out off the box and is the drag brake as bad as some say ?

Yes it’s very good right out of the box. A little top heavy but still for an rtr they are a nice truck. The drag brake leaves something to be desired but easily and pretty cheaply corrected down the road through the natural progression of mods and customization. I don’t think there is an immediate need to start throwing money into one however, use it the way it comes and replace things as they fail, it’s a fun truck for the $

They do both have a whine from the electronics. When both are stock the Traxxas Xl5 esc is much louder than the Redcats Hexfly. Both are virtually silent by switching the esc to a HobbyWing 1080 for $40. I personally find the stock traxxas esc/motor combo to be one of the loudest around especially at slow speed modulation.

I have the gen8, will it be okay if I use it in water? I will never completely submerge it, but if I go through water that is about half way up the body, will that be ok?

It shouldn’t be an issue as the Gen 8 and it’s electronics are waterproof. Properly drying and maintaining of moving parts is important when running in wet conditions. Another consideration is the tire setup. Vented tires/wheels will often fill with water soaking the foams. Breaking the beadlocks down and pulling the foams is about the only way to dry them. Sealed tires/wheels are the ticket for water usage. Enjoy, it’s a great truck!

@@starbright1087 the water stays in my foam for weeks if you let it never seeming to dry i just bought new rims and tires on amazon now i have no water in wheels. i also take mine through a decent amount of mud/water mix but i never go above the servo or even the bumper very much all my truck has is wheels and rims and brass on the portal hubs for upgrades (i do have some videos you can watch)

The tires and wheels are both Injora from Amazon on the Gen 8 in this video. They are imitation Hyrax tires. Roughly $30 fir wheels and $18 for the tires. Pretty good for cheap 😀
