Yes Adam, I would trust that face. That is the Redcat Racing Gen 8, the first version, version 1, in orange. I wish I could find one, but I can't. The Gen 8, V2 comes in metallic green, and a really nice metallic purple, which I would prefer. These are really great crawlers for the price, $279.00. It beats paying from $550.00, up to $800.00, for other 1/10th scale crawlers.

I love the look of your truck. The orange & graphics are great. I got my AXE a few weeks ago. I am very happy with it. New TREAL beadlocks, tires, foams, WARN winch, metal sliders, rear mud flaps, light package, magnetic latches, aluminum grill, red tow shackle D rings, custom front aluminum servo skid plate, and a bunch of scale add ons. I haven’t added any low weight yet. I like the TREAL stuff, but I have to recover from my expenditures first. Please don’t think I am “bragging” at all. I am really a novice at all the mods. Without guys like yourself, I wouldn’t know how to do any of this stuff. It’s all very difficult for me & once I get a little something done I am quite pleased with myself. I've had a trx4 sport and a scx10ii and I think I like my gen8 the most it's still pretty early but it's awesome, I did switch out the servo horn for a Vanquish clamping servo horn that is flat so it raised the steering arm angle and seemed to fix the bump steer a little, not all the way gone but it's definitely better.

From what I have read and viewed on the GEN eight scout to is it has a lot more things that can go bad right off the bat need to be upgraded such as weak gears, servo etc. The GEN seven also needed upgrades almost immediately out of the box. But the thing is is it’s with this hobby it’s a great part of it is upgrading improving modifying.I’ve been running mine on the average of about three times a week in all kinds of different terrain and weather conditions, and have finally gotten all the bugs worked out of it turning it in to a great tough dependable trail truck.

Plastic gears have no place in transfer cases... The gen 8 has 2 and they cost 50dlls to change them to Metal which comes standard in every TRX-4 Sport. So you save 50 bucks with the Gen8 by going with a weaker drivetrain.
@VanOrdCustoms5 жыл бұрын
Fair enough. I completely understand your viewpoint. However, I am not so sure that’s a deal breaker. For most people. As long as you run a reasonable power plant the plastic gears should hold up quite well. If you plan on running big power I can see it being an issue.
@skirmich5 жыл бұрын
@@VanOrdCustomsMain issue is that the pin for those plastic gears is not properly captured (Not enough tolerance) so In a bind situation while crawling the plastic gear can be completely stripped out on the pin hole. Redcat knows this and its the only supplier of the Metal replacement gears at a ludicrous cost.. You can fix the stripping by shimming the gear so the pin is properly seated in the plastic gear. But still... Plastic gears are cheap and its insane that replacing those elevate the cost to a TRX-4 Sport price point.

I couldn't imagine one of my colleagues coming up to me and saying "plastic gears? Pffft, junk. We all KNOW plastic has no place inside a 'REAL' car." It just would never happen. So without any kind of data that says these gears are inadequate or that there is indeed some kind of deflection causing problems...you're just a fanboy who doesn't like the fact that Redcat is blowing hot air up your Traxxas knickers. I have personally seen what "plastic junk" can do, and it's pretty damned impressive at times. Furthermore if you don't think there isn't something on the TRX4 worth about 50 bucks that they screwed up you're fooling yourself. But lets get real anyway...Your 50 dollar gear argument is a straw man at best. A TRX4 that gives you what the Gen8 does, costs WAY more than 50 bucks. I like them both, almost pulled the trigger on a TRX4 too but plan on see how far this Gen8 will take me. I've got other custom built tube frame crawlers that would make the TRX4 look like a department store toy if I want to get serious...including a custom build out of a RedCat Rockslide that can twist 90* at will, so I really don't care either way. It just frosts my mug when people make some half cocked ignorant straw man argument in an attempt to discredit what is the hobby's biggest bomb drop in a long time. No need. You can be the person who shakes the man's hand and says congrats, or the small person who sits in the corner trying to make fun of their accomplishment to make yourself feel better. Right now, you aint shakin any hands...

Just take the foams out of the tires they do way better
@VanOrdCustoms5 жыл бұрын
Rc tires are designed to run foams for peak performance. I would sooner recommend replacing your foams over simply removing them. A nice two stage foam would be helpful with this specific tire.

@@VanOrdCustoms this rig is light enuff and the tires are stiff enuff to run with out foams sure it would do better with some some suport inside but not foams besides its free dosent hurt anything and its killing the hyraxs hands down with out foams just try it before you say it dosent work soon ill build my new tire suport system for this size tire but i will never buy foams again

I am not knocking it at all. I understand that they will work and the truck is plenty light enough. Through my years in this hobby I have tried multiple variations from no foam to too much foam and everything in between. Currently it is my belief that a proper foam setup will yield improved performance over no foams based on my personal experiences and those of many others in the hobby. However, that being said everyone’s setup is different and if it works for you in the way that you would like it to that is all that matters. Also, free is always the right price in this hobby. 😉

redcat tire work better with out foam than with foam they always have in my opinion if you must have something inside the tire there are better choices than foam people are moving on to bigger and better tire suport systems

It can mean the difference between hitting a difficult gate and making it clean. Does it every time? Nah. But it can. It's easy to just have none as the trx 4 shows. So none is preferred. I do not have a gen 8 but I do have a gen 7 with the axle kit. I tossed the steering setup because I prefer the superior performance of soa and designed and printed my own mount. The only stock pieces left are the frame the outer links. I bought the hot racing skid before I realized there were link relocation skids available or I wouldn't have those either! I've got a wraith transmission with hot racing gears and solid spool for now. I'm going to add the dig function soon. I'm running a traxxas slipper and spur because I had one when I bought the case and gears so I didn't have buy a slipper setup. It works well. I guess at this point it's just a frankentruck with a bpc frame but it's such a beast.

I truly don’t see a time where the bump steer will cause someone to hit a gate unless they are driving quickly through it. Most people will be creeping if that close and perfectly able to compensate in their steering controls. Sounds like you have been enjoying your truck. Just like all other trucks that frequent competitions you seem to have installed a ton of upgrades. Sounds like a cool rig.
